Examining leadership and knowledge sharing role on small and medium enterprises innovation capabilities

The inovation capability of a firm depends on knowledge resources. Knowledge sharing is an important part in knowledge management to optimize firm knowledge resources. However, knowledge sharing can not be automatically achieved. Leadership factor is an important factor to encourage knowledge sharing. The purpose of this study was to examine the role of transformational and transactional leadership of the owners of SMEs to encourage knowledge sharing activity which in turn this activity can enhance innovation capability. The survey was conducted in the SME production sector in North Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. The research involved 176 samples. Data were analyzed with Structural Equation Model based on PLS-SEM variant. The result showed that only transformational leadership had a positive effect to encourage knowledge sharing. Further, the result showed that knowledge donating had the positive effect to enhance innovation capability. Surprisingly, the result showed that knowledge collecting had a negative effect to innovation capability.peer-reviewe

The impact of information technology resources on SMEs' innovation performance

This work aims to develop a research framework to examine the impact of information technology resources on the innovation performance of Saudi small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs). SMEs innovation capability influences growth and technological progress (Bruque & Moyano, 2007). However, many developing countries exhibit moderate or even low innovation performance. For instance, Saudi Arabia is ranked 54th by the Global Innovation Index (GII 2011). Innovation systems studies focus on the alignment between the interactions of innovation actors with their constantly changing environment toward better innovation performance (Etzkowitz & Leydesdorff, 2000). The dynamic capabilities of organisations have been highlighted as a crucial characteristic that helps to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage (Teece et al., 1997). The indirect impact IT resources on innovation performance represents an attractive research area (Benitez-Amado et al., 2010). Therefore, we argue that a closer look at Saudi SMEs information technology resources and their impact on the firm dynamic capabilities and innovation performance would make a significant contribution to existing knowledge. Areas such as the organisation strategies of developing countries, innovation management, dynamic capabilities, open innovation and strategic information systems are few examples of areas that might benefit from this work

Transactional leadership and its effect on supply chain management in manufacturing SMEs

The continued lacklustre performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in South Africa has brought the quest for lasting solutions. One of the options available is to tap into the areas of leadership and supply chain management (SCM) as potential sources of SME growth. This study analysed the link between transactional leadership and SCM in manufacturing SMEs in South Africa. The research constructs included transactional leadership, supply chain execution (SCE), and performance. The research was conducted in Gauteng, North-West and the Free State provinces. Furthermore, the study focused on established manufacturing SMEs, registered with the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA). A quantitative research approach using a correlational design was used. 411 SME owners, managers and professional employees participated in the study. Management by exception exerted a positive effect on SCE. In turn, SCE positively impacted customer service (CS) but did not affect supplier performance. The impact of transactional leadership on the execution of SCM in manufacturing SMEs is minimal and is demonstrated through management by exception. Effective implementation of SCM in these businesses is essential for optimising CS

Transformational leadership and innovation at the Lebanese banking industry

Purpose: Transformational leadership (TL) has been recognized as one of the most important factor influencing innovation. It is argued that this style plays an essential role in developing the process, structure and climate for organizations to become innovative. This research aims to examine the impact of TL on two aspects of innovation namely product and process innovation. Design/Methodology/Approach: The quantitative and explanatory analysis was taken by using the Structural equations modeling (SEM) with AMOS 20 to examine the relationship between TL and innovation. Research data were collected through a survey method. The sample result was determined by the probability stratified sampling technique of about 310 employees at 27 banks in Lebanon. Findings: The findings confirmed the importance of TL in enhancing innovation in banking sector. The main implication of the research highlights that individualized consideration is the most important predictor of product and process innovation followed by, inspirational motivation and idealized influence, respectively, whereas, intellectual stimulation has insignificant influence on product and process innovation. Practical Implications: Findings point to how transformational style of leadership produce better outcomes for the banks by mobilizing employees to engage in innovative products and processes. Originality/Value: These findings extends the understanding of the processes through which transformational styles of leadership stimulate innovation, and also highlight the benefits gained by cultivating more transformational styles of leadership to generate more innovative outcomes.peer-reviewe

Hubungan antara amalan operasi perkhidmatan dengan prestasi Tentera Darat Malaysia (TDM) : gaya kepimpinan sebagai moderasi

A study on delivery of services in the public sector in general and army in particular is insufficient. This study focuses on the level of service operations practices adopted by Malaysian Army and its relationship with performance. It aims to determine the relationship between the practice of service operations with the performance of the Malaysian Army in Peninsular Malaysia. In addition, this study also aims to identify whether leadership style acts as a moderator in the relationship between the practice of service operations with the performance of the Malaysian Army. Research method carried out was in the form of field study in which questionnaires were used as instrument. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation, multiple regression and hierarchical regression analysis. 800 sets of questionnaires were sent to a unit in the organization of the Army of Malaysia with a return rate of 244 sets (30.5%). Data collected through questionnaires were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS).The findings show a significant relationship between the dimensions of the practice of some service operations such as leadership practice, relationship oriented, the process of delivering a uniform, customer participation with the performance of the Malaysian Army. In addition, variables moderation leadership style namely transformational leadership style and transactional leadership style also affect the relationship between the practice of service operations with the performance of the Malaysian Army. The results of this study may contribute to the development of theory and knowledge in influencing the performance of the Malaysian Army to the proliferation of knowledge related to the field of operations management, especially help the Malaysian Army in the implementation of the operational management more efficiently and effectively
