Ontology-based patterns for the integration of business processes and enterprise application architectures

    Get PDF
Increasingly, enterprises are using Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) as an approach to Enterprise Application Integration (EAI). SOA has the potential to bridge the gap between business and technology and to improve the reuse of existing applications and the interoperability with new ones. In addition to service architecture descriptions, architecture abstractions like patterns and styles capture design knowledge and allow the reuse of successfully applied designs, thus improving the quality of software. Knowledge gained from integration projects can be captured to build a repository of semantically enriched, experience-based solutions. Business patterns identify the interaction and structure between users, business processes, and data. Specific integration and composition patterns at a more technical level address enterprise application integration and capture reliable architecture solutions. We use an ontology-based approach to capture architecture and process patterns. Ontology techniques for pattern definition, extension and composition are developed and their applicability in business process-driven application integration is demonstrated

It is an instinct requirement of the enterprise management to lower the cost so that the enterprise can optimize the asset efficiency. To enhance competition ability and enlarge the market share, enterprises must have a good inventory management system. In this paper, two solutions of inventory management based on bill of material (BOM) have been discussed. One is the accurate quantity and time that globally decided by primary equation of inventory management and the form of material requirement planning (MRP). The other is the stock requirement quantity and the detail structure which is implemented by compound BOM structure. A systematic and quantitative management method for trivial and heavy stock management had been discussed in this paper

The GOALS approach: business and software modeling traceability by means of human-computer interaction: enterprise modeling language and method

The management of an enterprise relies on the continuous organization and development of its business and software systems. A process that requires merging the ideas of the enterprise’ systems managers, targeting the specification of business requirements and the conception and implementation of a supporting information system. This process finds obstacles in the identification and communication of requirements, and also in their transformation in software artefacts, leading to difficulties or loss of traceability between business and software models. Existing methods, languages and techniques are still not sufficiently standardized to ensure that when a business improvement is introduced, the supportive software solution will be implemented within budget and time. Methods are still too closed to the concepts of their original scientific domains, conceiving solutions which are not representative of the business and software conceptual relation and of the complexity concealed in an improvement effort, namely concerning usability and user experience. Moreover, the lack of a common modeling language and method for the conception of holistic and traceable software solutions, also refrains the performance of the enterprise development process. The GOALS Approach presents a solution to surpass these barriers by means of the specification of an enterprise modeling language that relates the business and software conceptual structures using a shared set of concepts, a notation, process, method and techniques, that allow the design of the software as a result of the business organization, ensuring traceability by means of the permanent representation of the business structure in the software structure

Information Technologies (IT) create interconnected application software. Nowadays, one of the vital problems is the enterprise application software integration. Systems of the transport routing become more complicated, because in order to efficiently solve transport routing and planning problems, it is necessary to get more and more information. Enterprise application methods and technologies allow to create effective transport routing system. To structure integration solutions, can be used different options and solutions, as well as platform of integration, but vital problem is the choice of the most suitable integration approach. The aim of this paper is to evaluate several accessible integration solutions. Integration options are identified and classified according to integration approach and technologies used in this paper. In practical assessment of integration technologies, post parcel delivery and routing process is used as an example, for which it is necessary to create effective GPS/GIS/ERP integration solution. For this problem, several alternative solutions have been developed. They have been evaluated according to their high-speed, easily of development and modification, as well as other parameters

Project Work presented as partial requirement for obtaining the master’s degree in Statistics and Information Systems and Information Technologies ManagementNowadays most companies are struggling to manage large data and spending a lot of money on storing and capturing. To benefit from the stored data, enterprises implement Business Intelligence solutions and technology-driven processes. The most significant advantage of BI is analyzing actionable information and data-driven business decisions for executives and managers. Since technology is evolving very fast, Business Intelligence processes are getting more advanced every day. These advancements are promoting accountability, visibility, timely actionable information, increased return on investment, connected business processes, standardized management processes and augmented organizational flexibility. In a relationship with BI, enterprise performance management provides more predictable answers on these advancements by improving planning, budgeting, financial reporting, and consolidation. Therefore, this study aims to contribute to a better understanding of the implementation processes of embedded Enterprise Performance Management Solutions in ERP Embedded BI Platforms by revealing its methodology, steps, significant milestones, and effectiveness of the organizational structure. The embedded approach is going to be maintained by Business Intelligence based Business Planning and Consolidation tool on Enterprise Resource Planning System. Embedded Enterprise Performance Management solutions consist of Analysis Reporting, Business Planning, and Consolidation. Thoroughly they cover budgeting, planning, and consolidation as an advance altogether. The Implementation of an artefact aims to satisfy market competition requirements and to compete with financial demands which are originated from the growth rate at the organizational level There are several studies in the literature focuses on the critical success factors of BI projects, but there are not many studies which are mainly focused on the process evaluation of embedded enterprise performance management solutions and their success on organizations. This study will be an exploratory design research case study of a Group Company which is professionalized in language translation in 30 different countries on five different continents

This thesis reports research into the specification and implementation of an Information Technology (IT) Route Map. The purpose of the Route Map is to enable rapid design and deployment of IT solutions capable of semi-automating business processes in a manufacturing enterprise. The Map helps structure transition processes involved in “identification of key business strategies and design of business processes” and “choice of enterprise systems and supporting implementation techniques”. Common limitations of current Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are observed and incorporated as Route Map implications and constraints. Scope of investigation is targeted at Small to Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) that employ Engineer-To-Order (ETO) and Make-To-Order (MTO) business processes. However, a feature of the Route Map is that it takes into account contemporary business concerns related to “globalisation”, “mergers and acquisitions” and “typical resource constraint problems of SMEs”. In the course of the research a “Business Strategy Driven IT System Concept” was conceived and examined. The main purpose of this concept is to promote the development of agile and innovative business activity in SMEs. The Road Map encourages strategy driven solutions to be (a) specified based on the use of emerging enterprise engineering theories and (b) implemented and changed using componentbased systems design and composition techniques. Part-evaluation of the applicability and capabilities of the Road Map has been carried out by conducting industrial survey and case study work. This assesses requirements of real industrial problems and solutions. The evaluation work has also been enabled by conducting a pilot implementation of the thesis concepts at the premises of a partner SME

Included in this document is the report of my internship undertaken in the fulfilment of my Master of Cybersecurity and Informatic Forensics degree from the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, at Be One Solutions. During the internship, I identified several issues regarding security protocols and procedures at the company, more specifically in regards to credential management. After identifying the issues, I started researching enterprise level solutions for credential management, for which the requirements had been established beforehand with the IT manager. After comparing a set of solutions based on the features they provided and the price quoted, it was possible to conclude that all solutions were unsuitable due to either unreasonable pricing or previous security issues. Since the solutions analysed were deemed unsuitable, I started working on a Proof of Concept (PoC) for a custom solution that would be able to integrate with the project structure already present in the company’s in house project management solution. It started with defining the concept of the solutions in regards to how the encryption process would be performed, then the designing of the data structure in order to integrate with the project management solution, an afterwards came the development process of said solution
