    Analisis Faktor Konfirmatori Terhadap Skala Cyberloafing Mahasiswa

    The implementation of online distance learning creates a new deviant behaviour in higher education students. There are symptoms of student behaviour who negligent in using the internet for purposes that are not related to learning which is known as cyberloafing. Considering the rapid development of technology, the measurement of student cyberloafing behaviour needs to be developed continuously. Thus, this study aims to develop previous scales related to student cyberloafing to stay up to date. Based on literature review that discusses the measurement of student cyberloafing, a 20-item scale form created. The data were collected from 506 undergraduate students at a large university in Jakarta who have online distance learning experiences. Data were analysed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) with the JASP program. The results of this study indicate that the student cyberloafing scale model is in accordance with the theory where three dimensions are indicated, namely social purpose cyberloafing, academic cyberloafing, dan gaming purpose cyberloafing. The scale has a good fit model based on CFI, TLI, RMSEA, SRMR and GFI.   Keywords: confirmatory factor analysis; cyberloafing; student cyberloafing; student cyberloafing scale  Pelaksanaan pembelajaran jarak jauh secara daring mengakibatkan munculnya perilaku menyimpang pada mahasiswa. Terdapat gejala perilaku mahasiswa yang lalai dalam menggunakan internet untuk tujuan yang tidak berkaitan dengan pembelajaran yang dikenal dengan istilah cyberloafing. Melihat pesatnya perkembangan teknologi, pengukuran perilaku cyberloafing pada mahasiswa perlu terus dikembangkan. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan skala cyberloafing pada mahasiswa agar tetap sesuai dengan kondisi terkini. Berdasarkan kajian literatur yang membahas tentang pengukuran cyberloafing pada mahasiswa, sebuah skala yang terdiri dari 20 item dibuat. Data dikumpulkan dari 506 mahasiswa program sarjana di Jakarta yang memiliki pengalaman belajar jarak jauh secara daring. Data dianalisis menggunakan Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) dengan program JASP. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa model skala cyberloafing pada mahasiswa sesuai dengan teori yang menunjukkan adanya tiga dimensi, yaitu cyberloafing dengan tujuan sosial, cyberloafing dengan tujuan akademis, dan cyberloafing dengan tujuan bermain.     Distraction or Connection? An Investigation of Social Media Use at Work

    The use of social media in the workplace is controversial. In order to develop a good understanding of social media use at work, this study examines the effects of social media use from both positive and negative sides. Based on two-factor theory, this study proposes that social media use at work engenders distraction and perceived relatedness, which in turn influence job performance. This study further draws on resource matching theory to posit that the perceptual load of the job moderates the effects of social media use at work on distraction and perceived relatedness. A survey will be conducted to collect data and test the research hypotheses. In theoretical terms, this study is expected to contribute to information systems research by investigating both positive and negative outcomes of social media usage. In practical terms, this study sheds light on the usage and management of social media in the workplace

    Connections with Coworkers on Social Network Sites: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

    A large number of individuals are connected with their coworkers on social network sites (SNS) that are personal and professional (e.g., Facebook), with consequences on workplace relationships. Drawing on SNS, social identity and boundary management literatures, we surveyed 202 employees and found that coworkers’ friendship-acts (e.g., liking, commenting) were positively associated with closeness to coworkers when coworkers were of the same age or older than the focal individual, and with organizational citizenship behaviors towards coworkers (OCBI) when coworkers were of the same age. Harmful behaviors from coworkers (e.g., disparaging comment) were negatively associated with closeness (but not with OBCI) when coworkers were older than the focal individual. In addition, preferences for the segmentation of one’s professional and personal roles moderated the relationship between coworkers’ friendship-acts and OCBI (but not closeness) such that the positive relationship was stronger when the focal individual had low (vs. high) preferences for segmentation

    Social Networking Site Use among Caregivers of Children With Autism Spectrum Disorders

    Caregivers of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) experience higher levels of stress relative to those of children with other developmental disabilities and typical development. To date, little research has empirically examined the relationship between social supports, social networking site (SNS) use, and stress among caregivers of children with ASD. Using the resiliency model of family stress, adjustment, and adaptation as a theoretical framework, we explore the links between perceived social supports, SNS use, and stress among caregivers of children with ASD. We do this by conducting a crosssectional research design and using a structural equation modeling statistical approach. Practical and theoretical implications will be revealed by this study

    Professional Social Media Usage and Work Engagement Among Professionals in Finland Before and During the COVID-19 Pandemic : Four-Wave Follow-Up Study

    Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has changed work life profoundly and concerns regarding the mental well-being of employees' have arisen. Organizations have made rapid digital advancements and have started to use new collaborative tools such as social media platforms overnight. Objective: Our study aimed to investigate how professional social media communication has affected work engagement before and during the COVID-19 pandemic and the role of perceived social support, task resources, and psychological distress as predictors and moderators of work engagement. Methods: Nationally representative longitudinal survey data were collected in 2019-2020, and 965 respondents participated in all 4 surveys. Measures included work engagement, perceived social support and task resources, and psychological distress. The data were analyzed using a hybrid linear regression model. Results: Work engagement remained stable and only decreased in autumn 2020. Within-person changes in social media communication at work, social support, task resources, and psychological distress were all associated with work engagement. The negative association between psychological distress and work engagement was stronger in autumn 2020 than before the COVID-19 outbreak. Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic has exerted pressure on mental health at work. Fostering social support and task resources at work is important in maintaining work engagement. Social media communication could help maintain a supportive work environment.Peer reviewe

    Connecting with Coworkers on Social Network Sites: Strategies, Social Norms and Outcomes on Work Relationships

    Although an increasing number of individuals are connected with their coworkers on social network sites (SNS) that are professional and personal (e.g., Facebook), little research has explored the outcomes of these connections on interpersonal relationships at work. Drawing on SNS research as well as on an existing typology of online boundary management strategies (i.e., audience , content , custom and open ), we took an exploratory qualitative approach and interviewed all employees of 4 teams in diverse working environments. Our findings reveal that although interviewees’ behaviors reflected the 4 strategies, there were gray zones, and the audience strategy veered off course. Almost all interviewees monitored their content disclosure through either content or custom strategies. Specific social norms regarding SNS emerged. The outcomes of connecting with coworkers on SNS were mostly positive, including liking, closeness, respect, and organizational citizenship behaviors toward individuals (OCBI). However, disliking, loss of respect and envy were also mentioned

    Impact of Social Media Addiction on Employees’ Wellbeing and Work Productivity

    The objective of this study is to gain insights into the experiences of employees regarding their social media usage and consequences of social media overuse at the workplace. Fourteen semi-structured interviews were conducted, audio-recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) procedures. The qualitative data was collected from the employees working in renowned IT/ITES companies in India. The themes that emerged are lack of sleep; backache and eye strain; feeling of envy; lack of depth in the relationships; tendency to seek approvals; not meeting deadlines; compromise with the work quality; distraction from work. The present study intends to assist human resource managers in designing appropriate policies and guidelines pertaining to employees’ social media usage at the workplace

    IMPACT OF SOCIAL NETWORK SITES ON PSYCHOLOGICAL AND BEHAVIOURAL OUTCOMES IN THE WORK-PLACE: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW

    This paper reports on a systematic review of the evidence into the impacts of social network site usage on individual workplace outcomes. Twenty-seven studies met the inclusion criteria. SNS use in the workplace has been found to be positively associated with job satisfaction, job performance, innovative behaviour, employee engagement, and knowledge sharing, with knowledge sharing the most supported workplace outcome. The evidence does not support SNS use as being associated with negative behaviour like absenteeism and turnover intentions. Evidence of effects on behavioural outcomes such as presenteeism, organisational citizenship behaviour, and psychological outcomes such as employee involvement were limited. Results have implications for SNS usage policies in the workplace. Avenues for future work are provided

    A framework for increasing business value from social media

    Organisations are investing heavily in various social media applications. Several case studies show that such undertakings may be promising at first glance, but often amount to little. More attention has to be paid to the factors that influence the business value of a social media application. The paper proposes a framework which argues that the business value of a social media activity depends on having a correctly identified purpose of its implementation (scope and targeted benefits), on the technological solution and also on user involvement (user groups, users’ motivation and skills). The framework is evaluated with a longitudinal case study of a wiki in a software development company where an assessment of the business value of the wiki at two different points in time was made. The case study shows how the interplay of components led to failure at one time point and success at the other
