Understanding User Behavioral Intention to Adopt a Search Engine that Promotes Sustainable Water Management
An increase in usersâ online searches, the social concern for an efficient management of resources such as water, and the appearance of more and more digital platforms for sustainable purposes to conduct online searches lead us to reflect more on the usersâ behavioral intention with respect to search engines that support sustainable projects like water management projects. Another issue to consider is the factors that determine the adoption of such search engines. In the present study, we aim to identify the factors that determine the intention to adopt a search engine, such as Lilo, that favors sustainable water management. To this end, a model based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) is proposed. The methodology used is the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis with the Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS). The results demonstrate that individuals who intend to use a search engine are influenced by hedonic motivations, which drive their feeling of contentment with the search. Similarly, the success of search engines is found to be closely related to the ability a search engine grants to its users to generate a social or environmental impact, rather than usersâ trust in what they do or in their results. However, according to our results, habit is also an important factor that has both a direct and an indirect impact on usersâ behavioral intention to adopt different search engines
From search engine optimisation to search engine marketing management: development of a new area for information systems research
Search Engine Optimisation was a term used by web developers in the late 90s to highlight the importance of increasing a websiteâs position in search enginesâ results. Further development of the Internet in terms of the diversity of its users and uses such as e-commerce, blogging and wikis have highlighted the need for technical staff to work more closely with marketing professionals resulting in a new area of work â Search Engine Marketing Management.
The paper highlights the emerging role of Search Engine Marketing Management as a new and increasingly important area for future information systems researchers and research. Reaching beyond the 'simple' undifferentiated goal of increasing visitors to a website, a mature perspective of marketing is developing - that of realising strategic marketing objectives. The practical contribution of this paper is found in the development of awareness among management roles of the importance and nuances of search engines and the tactics required to harness the benefits of multiple online communication channels within organisational marketing strategy
Advertising and Word-of-Mouth Effects on Pre-launch Consumer Interest and Initial Sales of Experience Products
This study examines how consumers' interest in a new experience product develops as a result of advertising and word-of-mouth activities during the pre-launch period. The empirical settings are the U.S. motion picture and video game industries. The focal variables include weekly ad spend, blog volume, online search volume during pre-launch periods, opening-week sales, and product characteristics. We treat pre-launch search volume of keywords as a measure of pre-launch consumer interest in the related product. To identify probable persistent effects among the pre-launch time-series variables, we apply a vector autoregressive modeling approach. We find that blog postings have permanent, trend-setting effects on pre-launch consumer interest in a new product, while advertising has only temporary effects. In the U.S. motion picture industry, the four-week cumulative elasticity of pre-launch consumer interest is 0.187 to advertising and 0.635 to blog postings. In the U.S. video game industry, the elasticities are 0.093 and 1.306, respectively. We also find long-run co-evolution between blog and search volume, which suggests that consumers' interest in the upcoming product cannot grow without bounds for a given level of blog volume
Using thematic ontologies for user- and group- based adaptive personalization in web searching
This paper presents Prospector, an adaptive meta-search layer, which performs personalized re-ordering of search results. Prospector combines elements from two approaches to adaptive search support: (a) collaborative web searching; and, (b) personalized searching using semantic metadata. The paper focuses on the way semantic metadata and the usersâ search behavior are utilized for user- and group- modeling, as well as on how these models are used to re-rank results returned for individual queries. The paper also outlines past evaluation activities related to Prospector, and discusses potential applications of the approach for the adaptive retrieval of multimedia documents
CHORUS Deliverable 2.2: Second report - identification of multi-disciplinary key issues for gap analysis toward EU multimedia search engines roadmap
After addressing the state-of-the-art during the first year of Chorus and establishing the existing landscape in
multimedia search engines, we have identified and analyzed gaps within European research effort during our second year.
In this period we focused on three directions, notably technological issues, user-centred issues and use-cases and socio-
economic and legal aspects. These were assessed by two central studies: firstly, a concerted vision of functional breakdown
of generic multimedia search engine, and secondly, a representative use-cases descriptions with the related discussion on
requirement for technological challenges. Both studies have been carried out in cooperation and consultation with the
community at large through EC concertation meetings (multimedia search engines cluster), several meetings with our
Think-Tank, presentations in international conferences, and surveys addressed to EU projects coordinators as well as
National initiatives coordinators. Based on the obtained feedback we identified two types of gaps, namely core
technological gaps that involve research challenges, and âenablersâ, which are not necessarily technical research
challenges, but have impact on innovation progress. New socio-economic trends are presented as well as emerging legal
challenges
CHORUS Deliverable 2.1: State of the Art on Multimedia Search Engines
Based on the information provided by European projects and national initiatives related to multimedia search as well as domains experts that participated in the CHORUS Think-thanks and workshops, this document reports on the state of the art related to multimedia content search from, a technical, and socio-economic perspective.
The technical perspective includes an up to date view on content based indexing and retrieval technologies, multimedia search in the context of mobile devices and peer-to-peer networks, and an overview of current evaluation and benchmark inititiatives to measure the performance of multimedia search engines.
From a socio-economic perspective we inventorize the impact and legal consequences of these technical advances and point out future directions of research

Combining Physical Simulators and Object-Based Networks for Control
Physics engines play an important role in robot planning and control;
however, many real-world control problems involve complex contact dynamics that
cannot be characterized analytically. Most physics engines therefore employ .
approximations that lead to a loss in precision. In this paper, we propose a
hybrid dynamics model, simulator-augmented interaction networks (SAIN),
combining a physics engine with an object-based neural network for dynamics
modeling. Compared with existing models that are purely analytical or purely
data-driven, our hybrid model captures the dynamics of interacting objects in a
more accurate and data-efficient manner.Experiments both in simulation and on a
real robot suggest that it also leads to better performance when used in
complex control tasks. Finally, we show that our model generalizes to novel
