Efecto del medio y de la herencia sobre los pesos al nacer, destete y 16 meses de edad en la raza costeño con cuernos

Con el objetivo de estimar parámetros genéticos para los caracteres productivos, pesos al nacer, destete y 16 meses de edad, en la raza Costeño con Cuernos en la estación experimental de Turipaná, ubicada en el municipio de Cereté, norte de Colombia, fueron analizados 1303, 1108 y 841 datos, para los pesos al nacer (PD), al destete (PD) y peso a los 16 meses (P16M), respectivamente, en el periodo 1991 al año 2001. Las medias observadas y desvíos estándares para dichos caracteres fueron 29.03 ± 3.69Kg, 173.27± 23.71Kg y 228.36 ± 27.64Kg., respectivamente. Los valores estimados y los errores para los coeficientes de repetibilidad y de heredabilidad para los PN, PD y P16M fueron 0.05 ± 0.02; 0.08 ± 0.03; 0.082 ± 0.048; 0.26± 0.82 y 0.22 ± 0.089, respectivamente. Los coeficientes de correlación genética fueron 0.19 para PN x PD y 0.045 para PD x P16M

Heritability and genetic tendencies for growth characteristics in Romosinuano Creole livestock

The objective of this study was to estimate the heritabilities and genetic tendencies for weights at birth (PN), weaning adjusted to 240 days (PDA) and at 16 months (P16) in Romosinuano Creole cattle. Information from the years 1960 to 2011 of the IC Turipaná database was used, using unicaracteristic models that included the fixed effects of a contemporary group (sex-season-year), genetic random effects, direct additive of the animal, genetic maternal additives (only for PN and PDA), permanent maternal environment (only for PN and PDA) and residual. The components of variance and genetic parameters were estimated through Restricted Maximum Likelihood, through the AIREML program. The direct heritability for PN was 0.19 ± 0.04, for PDA of 0.13 ± 0.04 and for P16 of 0.21 ± 0.05. The maternal heritabilities for PN and PD were 0.003 ± 0.02 and 0.08 ± 0.03, respectively. The correlations between direct and maternal genetic effects for PN and PD were negative (-0.49 ± 0.68 and -0.13 ± 0.27). The genetic tendencies for direct genetic effects for the characteristics under study were all positive (P <0.01), although they suggest little genetic progress in the population

Parametros genèticos de caracterìsticas productivas y reproductivas para ganado tipo carne en Colombia.

In order to present the overview of research in animal genetic improvement of beef cattle in Colombia, 27 published articles were reviewed in recognized national journals available on the web; publications were grouped into two categories: productive and reproductive characteristics. For the production characteristics were referenced published papers for the variables birth weight (BW) with mean values of hd 2 , hm 2 y ht 2 of 0.23, 0.15 and 0.22 respectively, similarly the weight at weaning (PD) with values of 0.21, 0.12 and 0.21 was registered, Likewise some published papers reported heritability although in smaller quantities for the weights at 12, 16 and 18 months. For reproductive features only two published works were found for age at first birth (AFB), both with a hd2 of 0.16 ± 0.086, and for calving interval (CI) values ranging from 0.0 ± 0.06 and 0.15 ± 0.07. In the same light, estimates of repeatability genetic correlations and phenotypic and environmental production characteristic were reported,Con el propósito de presentar la panorámica de las investigaciones realizadas en mejoramiento genético animal para ganado de carne en Colombia, fueron revisados 27 artículos, publicados en revistas reconocidas en el ámbito nacional y en lo posible disponibles en la red., Las publicaciones fueron agrupadas en dos categorías: características productivas y reproductivas. Para las características productivas se referenciaron trabajos publicados para las variables peso al nacimiento (PN) con valores medios de hd 2 , hm 2 y ht 2 de 0.23, 0.15 y 0.22 respectivamente, de igual manera para el peso al destete (PD) con valores de 0.21, 0.12 y 0.21, respectivamente; así mismo se reportan, aunque en menor cantidad, publicaciones para los pesos a los 12, 16 y 18 meses. Para las características reproductivas, solo se hallaron dos trabajos publicados para la edad al primer parto (EPP), ambos con una hd 2 de 0.16±0.086, y para el intervalo entre partos (IEP) valores que oscilan entre 0.0±0.06 y 0.15±0.07. Estimación de la heredabilidad para el peso al nacimiento y el peso al destete en la raza chino santandereano y sus cruces en el departamento de Santander

Con el objetivo de estimar los componentes de varianza y valores de heredabilidad para el peso al nacimiento y el peso al destete en ejemplares de la raza criolla Chino Santandereano (CH), se analizaron 277 registros entre los años 2008 y 2012 pertenecientes a las ganaderías Ojo de Agua y Las Pampas en el Departamento de Santander. Se utilizó un modelo animal mixto que incluyó los efectos fijos de año de nacimiento y destete, finca, sexo, época de nacimiento y destete, número de parto, composición racial y el efecto aleatorio del padre; los análisis se realizaron empleando los procedimientos GLM y MIXED del programa estadístico (SAS®, 9.0). Para el peso al nacimiento se observó un promedio general de 27,20 ± 7,5 kg, encontrándose un efecto significativo del año de nacimiento. Para el peso al destete se obtuvo un promedio general de 160,46 ± 62,9 kg, con efectos significativos de la finca y la composición racial. No se encontró un efecto significativo del padre en la expresión de ninguna de las dos características analizadas. Las estimaciones de heredabilidad para el peso al nacimiento y el peso al destete fueron de 0,38 ± 0,19 y 0,18 ± 0,14 respectivamente. Se concluye que es apropiado realizar selección genética para la característica peso al nacimiento, aunque se requiere mejorar las condiciones medioambientales durante la fase del predestete a fin de obtener una mayor respuesta productiva.In order to estimate the variance components and heritability values for birth weight and weaning weight in specimen of the Chino Santandereano breed (CH), 277 records between 2008 and 2012 were analyzed belonging to herds Ojo de Agua and Las Pampas in the Department of Santander. A mixed animal model that included the fixed effects of year of birth and weaning, farm, sex, date of birth and weaning, parity, racial composition and the random effect of the sire was used; analysis were performed using the GLM and MIXED (SAS ® 9.0) statistical program procedures. For birth weight an overall average of 27.20 ± 7.5 kg was observed, finding a significant effect of year of birth. Weaning weight for an overall average of 160.46 ± 62.9 kg, with significant effects of the farm and the racial composition was obtained. No significant effect of the father in the expression of any of the two characteristics analyzed was found. Heritability estimates for birth weight were 0.38 ± 0.19 and for weaning weight of 0.18 ± 0.14. It concludes that it is appropriate to conduct genetic selection taking into account the characteristic birth weight and improvement of environmental conditions during the preweaning to obtain more productive response.
