Scan rate converter for tape recording and playback of TV pictures

    Get PDF
Magnetic tape recording and playback equipment converts television pictures, both black and white and color, from one scan rate to another. The equipment indexes color picture frames for retrieval electronically and can be used as a document storage and retrieval medium that is compatible with hard-copy printout machines

A polar space for document storage and retrieval

In a manual retrieval system, the process of associating a book or document with a specified term reflects the recall, associativity and flexibility of the human mind

Title Insurance Aspects of Tort Liability

    Get PDF
By reason of the adequate damages recoverable in contract by the insured, and because of safeguards of ethics and efficient methods of title examinations, underwriting practices, and sophisticated systems of document storage and retrieval, it would appear that tort liability will not become prevalent in the title industry. Since law is disposed to follow the needs of society, rather than to anticipate them, it seems logical that actions in tort liability will not be needed

TOWARD A FUNCTIONAL REPRESENTATION OF A GENERALIZED DOCUMENT INFORMATION STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL SYSTEM

    Get PDF
A model of a generalized document storage and retrieval system is proposed. The model consists of six subsystems (or blocks): logical processor, selector, descriptor file, locator, document file and analysis block. These subsystems function in a partial environment defined by the user and data blocks. Proceeding from a verbal description, a functional representation of each subsystem is developed. The functional representation describes not only what is done but also, to some degree, how tasks are accomplished within each subsystem. An immediate result of the functional representation is the definition of a metalanguage for identifying some necessary characteristics of higher level languages used in the implementation of information storage and retrieval systems. To illustrate the usefulness of the metalanguage, a comparison is made of three languages - FORTRAN, PL/l, and SNOBOL - for implementing document storage and retrieval systems. The functional differences among the blocks of the system are apparent, and the implementation of efficient systems appears to require a multi-language approach

Building the future: integrating building information management and environmental assessment methodologies

    Get PDF
The demand for sustainable buildings is increasing driven in part by legislation, rising energy costs and growing environmental concerns amongst consumers. As a result clients and developers are increasingly seeking to incorporate environmental attributes into buildings and demonstrate these sustainability credentials by certifying a development using an environmental assessment methodology such as BREEAM or LEED. One of the major issues in delivering sustainable buildings is ensuring that measures incorporated into a building at design stage are translated into action during building construction. This disconnect between design and construction phases of a project often results in the need to undertake costly remedial measures to achieve a targeted sustainability rating, or the building failing the assessment. This paper suggests that by integrating BIM with Environmental Assessment Methodologies decisions made with regard to sustainability attributes at the design stage can be clearly communicated and understood by all involved in the buildings specification and construction. It introduces a conceptual framework that seeks to define the relationship between BIM and EAMs

Using Web Technology for Public Program Enrollment: Assessing One-e-App in Three California Counties

    Get PDF
Examines the benefits of an application that automates the enrollment process in California's public health and other programs and the experiences of counties in adopting it. Presents lessons learned and challenges, including the complexity of databases

Portuguese financial corporations' information technology adoption patterns

    Get PDF
A survey of Portuguese financial corporations showed that their adoption of information technologies (IT) depends on strategic variables, such as competitive strategies, competitive aspects, business environment, and geographic strategies. The survey also revealed that firms adopting one information technology are likely to adopt others and that they follow a sequence in adopting information technologies. We identified the IT adoption sequence by estimating, through the Bayes theorem, the likelihood of a firm's adopting a specific technology after having adopted a set of more basic technologies. We propose a classification for information technologies according to their place in the adoption sequence: infrastructure technologies, intermediate technologies, and advanced technologieinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The impact of the corporate strategy on information system strategy: A survey of portuguese financial corporations

The expansion and evolution of the Portuguese financial sector, together with the information technologies promises of delivering competitive advantage, lead us to research the information technology adoption patterns in the Portuguese financial sector. We hypothesised that the adoption of specific information technologies should depend on specific strategic variables, such as competitive strategies, competitive aspects, geographic strategies and business environment. We also hypothesised that firms adopting one information technology are more likely to adopt other information technologies, and that there is a sequence pattern in the adoption of new information technologies. We confirmed most of the components of the first hypothesis, that is, the adoption of specific information technologies depend on specific strategic variables, as well as the hypothesis that firms adopting one information technology are more likely to adopt other information technologies, and that there is a sequence pattern in the adoption of new information technologies. After identifying that there is a sequence pattern, we classified different information technologies according to their place in the adoption sequence.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

XML Schema Clustering with Semantic and Hierarchical Similarity Measures

    Get PDF
With the growing popularity of XML as the data representation language, collections of the XML data are exploded in numbers. The methods are required to manage and discover the useful information from them for the improved document handling. We present a schema clustering process by organising the heterogeneous XML schemas into various groups. The methodology considers not only the linguistic and the context of the elements but also the hierarchical structural similarity. We support our findings with experiments and analysis
