Robust Predictive Extended State Observer for a Class of Nonlinear Systems with Time-Varying Input Delay

[EN] This paper deals with asymptotic stabilisation of a class of nonlinear input-delayed systems via dynamic output feedback in the presence of disturbances. The proposed strategy has the structure of an observer-based control law, in which the observer estimates and predicts both the plant state and the external disturbance. A nominal delay value is assumed to be known and stability conditions in terms of linear matrix inequalities are derived for fast-varying delay uncertainties. Asymptotic stability is achieved if the disturbance or the time delay is constant. The controller design problem is also addressed and a numerical example with an unstable system is provided to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed strategy. This work was partially supported by: Ministerio de EconomĂa y Competitividad, Spain (TIN2017-86520-C3-1-R); Universitat PolitĂšcnica de ValĂšncia (FPI-UPV 2014 PhD Grant); and Israel Science Foundation (Grant No. 1128/14).Sanz Diaz, R.; GarcĂa Gil, PJ.; Fridman, E.; Albertos PĂ©rez, P. Time-Varying Input and State Delay Compensation for Uncertain Nonlinear Systems

A robust controller is developed for uncertain, second-order nonlinear systems subject to simultaneous unknown, time-varying state delays and known, time-varying input delays in addition to additive, sufficiently smooth disturbances. An integral term composed of previous control values facilitates a delay-free open-loop error system and the development of the feedback control structure. A stability analysis based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii (LK) functionals guarantees uniformly ultimately bounded tracking under the assumption that the delays are bounded and slowly varying

    Output-feedback anti-disturbance predictor-based control for discrete-time systems with time-varying input delays

[EN] This paper investigates the robust stabilization of discrete-time systems with time-varying input delays and model uncertainties by predictor-based anti-disturbance output-feedback control strategies. Here, a novel predictor-feedback control combined with an extended state observer is proposed. The objective is to counteract the negative effects of input delays while actively rejecting disturbance signals typically encountered in engineering practice, such as steps or harmonics. Differently from previous approaches, unknown but bounded time-varying delays are taken into consideration. Moreover, the complexity of the algorithm for control synthesis is notably reduced. Finally, an illustrative example from the literature is provided to show that better robust performance can be achieved with the proposed method. This work was partially supported by projects TIN201786520C31R, Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad (Spain) , and PGC2018098719BI00, MCIU/AEI/FEDER, UE, and Group DGA T4517R, Spain. Meromorphic observer-based pole assignment in time delay systems

    Get PDF
summary:The paper deals with a novel method of control system design which applies meromorphic transfer functions as models for retarded linear time delay systems. After introducing an auxiliary state model a finite-spectrum observer is designed to close a stabilizing state feedback. The observer finite spectrum is the key to implement a state feedback stabilization scheme and to apply the affine parametrization in controller design. On the basis of the so- called RQ-meromorphic functions an algebraic solution to the problem of time- delay system stabilization and control is presented that practically provides a finite spectrum assignment of the control loop

Dynamical State Feedback Control for Linear Input Delay Systems, Part I: Dissipative Stabilization via Semidefinite Programming

It is well known that predictor controllers can completely eliminate the destabilizing effects of input delays. However, their design is typically based on direct constructions that leave little room for incorporating closed-loop performance objectives. To address this issue, we introduce the concept of parameterized linear dynamical state feedbacks (LDSFs) that can achieve both input delay compensation and stabilization for linear input delay systems with dissipative constraints. This control construct draws inspiration from recent developments in the mathematical treatment of distributed delays, and generalizes conventional predictor controllers, where the degree of parameterization can be increased by adjusting the integral term. A sufficient condition for the existence of the LDSF is formulated as matrix inequalities by constructing a complete type Krasovskii functional. To solve the bilinear matrix inequality in the synthesis condition, we employ an inner convex approximation algorithm that can be initialized using the gains of a predictor controller obtained via explicit construction. Unlike traditional predictor controllers, the parameters of our LTDS can be directly tuned via the proposed optimization framework. Numerical examples and simulation have been experimented to demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of our methodology

Robust controller design for input-delayed systems using predictive feedback and an uncertainty estimator

[EN] This paper deals with the problem of stabilizing a class of input-delayed systems with (possibly) nonlinear uncertainties by using explicit delay compensation. It is well known that plain predictive schemes lack robustness with respect to uncertain model parameters. In this work, an uncertainty estimator is derived for input-delay systems and combined with a modified state predictor, which uses current available information of the estimated uncertainties. Furthermore, based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals, a computable criterion to check robust stability of the closed-loop is developed and cast into a minimization problem constrained to an LMI. Additionally, for a given input delay, an iterative-LMI algorithm is proposed to design stabilizing tuning parameters. The main results are illustrated and validated using a numerical example with a second-order dynamic system. This work was partially supported by projects PROMETEOII/2013/004, Conselleria d EducaciĂł, Generalitat Valenciana, and TIN2014-56158-C4-4-P-AR, Ministerio de EconomĂa y Competitividad, Spain.Sanz Diaz, R.; GarcĂa Gil, PJ.; Albertos PĂ©rez, P.; Zhong, Q.
