MLCP: Multi level Clustering Protocol in Wireless Sensor Network
The basic goals of wireless sensor network are to enhance the lifetime of the network and also to use the energy of the network nodes efficiently. There are so many traditional approaches or techniques available in wireless sensor network(WSN) to achieve the above goals. But, they are not so efficient and reliable in terms of utilization of energy of the nodes in the network. Thus, Clustering is one of the key techniques to achieve the above goals in wireless sensor network with less energy consumption. It can also increase network scalability. Sensor nodes are typically considered to be homogeneous in nature since the researches in the field of wireless sensor networks have been evolved but in reality, homogeneous sensor networks hardly exist. Thus, we require a clustering technique which will work in heterogeneous environment which are more closely associated with real life scenarios. In this thesis, investigations have been made to design a heterogeneous aware clustering technique named“Multi level clustering protocol” (MLCP) in wireless sensor network in order to ensure the protocol to closely work with the real life situations. The main objective of the Multi level clustering protocol(MLCP) is to extend the stable region of wireless sensor nodes, which finally increases the life time of the network with efficient energy usage. The protocol classified the nodes into different types in term of their energy levels. Finally, the simulation result shows that MLCP gives better performance than the existing system, Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) and Distributed Election Clustering (DEC) protocol. There are two variants of Multi level Clustering protocol(MLCP). They are Multi level Election Clustering Protocol((MLECP)) and Multi level Randomized Clustering Protocol(MLRCP)
From carbon nanotubes and silicate layers to graphene platelets for polymer nanocomposites
In spite of extensive studies conducted on carbon nanotubes and silicate layers for their polymer-based nanocomposites, the rise of graphene now provides a more promising candidate due to its exceptionally high mechanical performance and electrical and thermal conductivities. The present study developed a facile approach to fabricate epoxy–graphene nanocomposites by thermally expanding a commercial product followed by ultrasonication and solution-compounding with epoxy, and investigated their morphologies, mechanical properties, electrical conductivity and thermal mechanical behaviour. Cross-layer design of multi-hop wireless networks
MULTI -hop wireless networks are usually defined as a collection of nodes
equipped with radio transmitters, which not only have the capability to
communicate each other in a multi-hop fashion, but also to route each others’ data
packets. The distributed nature of such networks makes them suitable for a variety of
applications where there are no assumed reliable central entities, or controllers, and
may significantly improve the scalability issues of conventional single-hop wireless
networks.
This Ph.D. dissertation mainly investigates two aspects of the research issues
related to the efficient multi-hop wireless networks design, namely: (a) network
protocols and (b) network management, both in cross-layer design paradigms to
ensure the notion of service quality, such as quality of service (QoS) in wireless mesh
networks (WMNs) for backhaul applications and quality of information (QoI) in
wireless sensor networks (WSNs) for sensing tasks. Throughout the presentation of
this Ph.D. dissertation, different network settings are used as illustrative examples,
however the proposed algorithms, methodologies, protocols, and models are not
restricted in the considered networks, but rather have wide applicability.
First, this dissertation proposes a cross-layer design framework integrating
a distributed proportional-fair scheduler and a QoS routing algorithm, while using
WMNs as an illustrative example. The proposed approach has significant performance
gain compared with other network protocols. Second, this dissertation proposes
a generic admission control methodology for any packet network, wired and
wireless, by modeling the network as a black box, and using a generic mathematical

function and Taylor expansion to capture the admission impact. Third, this dissertation
further enhances the previous designs by proposing a negotiation process,
to bridge the applications’ service quality demands and the resource management,
while using WSNs as an illustrative example. This approach allows the negotiation
among different service classes and WSN resource allocations to reach the optimal
operational status. Finally, the guarantees of the service quality are extended to
the environment of multiple, disconnected, mobile subnetworks, where the question
of how to maintain communications using dynamically controlled, unmanned data
ferries is investigated
Multihop clustering algorithm for load balancing in wireless sensor networks
The paper presents a new cluster based routing algorithm that exploits the redundancy properties of the sensor networks in order to address the traditional problem of load balancing and energy efficiency in the WSNs.The algorithm makes use of the nodes in a sensor network of which area coverage is covered by the neighbours of the nodes and mark them as temporary cluster heads. The algorithm then forms two layers of multi hop communication. The bottom layer which involves intra cluster communication and the top layer which involves inter cluster communication involving the temporary cluster heads. Performance studies indicate that the proposed algorithm solves effectively the problem of load balancing and is also more efficient in terms of energy consumption from Leach and the enhanced version of Leach
Hybrid Multi-Level Detection and Mitigation of Clone Attacks in Mobile Wireless Sensor Network (MWSN).
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are often deployed in hostile environments, where an adversary can physically capture some of the sensor nodes. The adversary collects all the nodes' important credentials and subsequently replicate the nodes, which may expose the network to a number of other security attacks, and eventually compromise the entire network. This harmful attack where a single or more nodes illegitimately claims an identity as replicas is known as the node replication attack. The problem of node replication attack can be further aggravated due to the mobile nature in WSN. In this paper, we propose an extended version of multi-level replica detection technique built on Danger Theory (DT), which utilizes a hybrid approach (centralized and distributed) to shield the mobile wireless sensor networks (MWSNs) from clone attacks. The danger theory concept depends on a multi-level of detections; first stage (highlights the danger zone (DZ) by checking the abnormal behavior of mobile nodes), second stage (battery check and random number) and third stage (inform about replica to other networks). The DT method performance is highlighted through security parameters such as false negative, energy, detection time, communication overhead and delay in detection. The proposed approach also demonstrates that the hybrid DT method is capable and successful in detecting and mitigating any malicious activities initiated by the replica. Nowadays, crimes are vastly increasing and it is crucial to modify the systems accordingly. Indeed, it is understood that the communication needs to be secured by keen observation at each level of detection. The simulation results show that the proposed approach overcomes the weaknesses of the previous and existing centralized and distributed approaches and enhances the performance of MWSN in terms of communication and memory overhead
AM-DisCNT: Angular Multi-hop DIStance based Circular Network Transmission Protocol for WSNs
The nodes in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) contain limited energy
resources, which are needed to transmit data to base station (BS). Routing
protocols are designed to reduce the energy consumption. Clustering algorithms
are best in this aspect. Such clustering algorithms increase the stability and
lifetime of the network. However, every routing protocol is not suitable for
heterogeneous environments. AM-DisCNT is proposed and evaluated as a new energy
efficient protocol for wireless sensor networks. AM-DisCNT uses circular
deployment for even consumption of energy in entire wireless sensor network.
Cluster-head selection is on the basis of energy. Highest energy node becomes
CH for that round. Energy is again compared in the next round to check the
highest energy node of that round. The simulation results show that AM-DisCNT
performs better than the existing heterogeneous protocols on the basis of
network lifetime, throughput and stability of the system.Comment: IEEE 8th International Conference on Broadband and Wireless

Unified clustering and communication protocol for wireless sensor networks
In this paper we present an energy-efficient cross layer protocol for providing application specific reservations in wireless senor networks called the “Unified Clustering and Communication Protocol ” (UCCP). Our modular cross layered framework satisfies three wireless sensor network requirements, namely, the QoS requirement of heterogeneous applications, energy aware clustering and data forwarding by relay sensor nodes. Our unified design approach is motivated by providing an integrated and viable solution for self organization and end-to-end communication is wireless sensor networks. Dynamic QoS based reservation guarantees are provided using a reservation-based TDMA approach. Our novel energy-efficient clustering approach employs a multi-objective optimization technique based on OR (operations research) practices. We adopt a simple hierarchy in which relay nodes forward data messages from cluster head to the sink, thus eliminating the overheads needed to maintain a routing protocol. Simulation results demonstrate that UCCP provides an energy-efficient and scalable solution to meet the application specific QoS demands in resource constrained sensor nodes.
