An Investigation into the Effects of Image Resolution on a Facial-Image-Based Personal Authentication System
The issues associated with image resolution in automated authentication or identification systems has become one of the important challenges for researchers' in biometrics. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the effect of variable resolutions on the performance of a Facial-Image-Based Person Authentication System. Image resolution may vary significantly especially in uncontrolled acquisition environments or when sensing from a distance and so on. The detail available in the data thus reduces which may deteriorate the performance of such system. In this project we investigated the impact on system accuracy when image resolution is gradually reduced by a given factor. As a remedy, we investigated different methods for increasing image resolution prior to using those images for authentication and compared the relative gains in accuracy. The main procedure of the face image authentication system based on comparing landmarks of the face remains the same. In this study, we found that several issues related to image resolutions might have an impact on the recognition rate performance such as facial expressions, image background, and others. The influence of image resolution on the recognition rate increases roughly with the increasing resolution at a specific degree, high-image resolution would not be good for recognition rate always; reducing high image resolution makes it easier to achieve high face recognition rates
Geobase Information System Impacts on Space Image Formats
As Geobase Information Systems increase in number, size and complexity, the format compatability of satellite remote sensing data becomes increasingly more important. Because of the vast and continually increasing quantity of data available from remote sensing systems the utility of these data is increasingly dependent on the degree to which their formats facilitate, or hinder, their incorporation into Geobase Information Systems. To merge satellite data into a geobase system requires that they both have a compatible geographic referencing system. Greater acceptance of satellite data by the user community will be facilitated if the data are in a form which most readily corresponds to existing geobase data structures. The conference addressed a number of specific topics and made recommendations

Digital encoding of black and white facsimile signals
As the costs of digital signal processing and memory hardware are
decreasing each year compared to those of transmission, it is
increasingly economical to apply sophisticated source encoding
techniques to reduce the transmission time for facsimile documents.
With this intent, information lossy encoding schemes have been
investigated in which the encoder is divided into two stages.
Firstly, preprocessing, which removes redundant information from
the original documents, and secondly, actual encoding of the preprocessed
documents. [Continues.

A Chronology of Interpolation: From Ancient Astronomy to Modern Signal and Image Processing
This paper presents a chronological overview of the developments in interpolation theory, from the earliest times to the present date. It brings out the connections between the results obtained in different ages, thereby putting the techniques currently used in signal and image processing into historical perspective. A summary of the insights and recommendations that follow from relatively recent theoretical as well as experimental studies concludes the presentation

Geometric Transformation Techniques for Digital Images: A Survey
This survey presents a wide collection of algorithms for the geometric transformation of digital images. Efficient image transformation algorithms are critically important to the remote sensing, medical imaging, computer vision, and computer graphics communities. We review the growth of this field and compare all the described algorithms. Since this subject is interdisciplinary, emphasis is placed on the unification of the terminology, motivation, and contributions of each technique to yield a single coherent framework. This paper attempts to serve a dual role as a survey and a tutorial. It is comprehensive in scope and detailed in style. The primary focus centers on the three components that comprise all geometric transformations: spatial transformations, resampling, and antialiasing. In addition, considerable attention is directed to the dramatic progress made in the development of separable algorithms. The text is supplemented with numerous examples and an extensive bibliography
Digitale Bildsignalverarbeitung : Grundlagen, Verfahren, Beispiele
