Advances and Applications of Dezert-Smarandache Theory (DSmT) for Information Fusion (Collected Works), Vol. 4
The fourth volume on Advances and Applications of Dezert-Smarandache Theory (DSmT) for information fusion collects theoretical and applied contributions of researchers working in different fields of applications and in mathematics. The contributions (see List of Articles published in this book, at the end of the volume) have been published or presented after disseminating the third volume (2009, http://fs.unm.edu/DSmT-book3.pdf) in international conferences, seminars, workshops and journals.

The effective use of the DSmT for multi-class classification
International audienceThe extension of the Dezert-Smarandache theory (DSmT) for the multi-class framework has a feasible computational complexity for various applications when the number of classes is limited or reduced typically two classes. In contrast, when the number of classes is large, the DSmT generates a high computational complexity. This paper proposes to investigate the effective use of the DSmT for multi-class classification in conjunction with the Support Vector Machines using the One-Against-All (OAA) implementation, which allows offering two advantages: firstly, it allows modeling the partial ignorance by including the complementary classes in the set of focal elements during the combination process and, secondly, it allows reducing drastically the number of focal elements using a supervised model by introducing exclusive constraints when classes are naturally and mutually exclusive. To illustrate the effective use of the DSmT for multi-class classification, two SVM-OAA implementations are combined according three steps: transformation of the SVM classifier outputs into posterior probabilities using a sigmoid technique of Platt, estimation of masses directly through the proposed model and combination of masses through the Proportional Conflict Redistribution (PCR6). To prove the effective use of the proposed framework, a case study is conducted on the handwritten digit recognition. Experimental results show that it is possible to reduce efficiently both the number of focal elements and the classification error rate
DSmT Decision-Making Algorithms for Finding Grasping Configurations of Robot Dexterous Hands
In this paper, we present a deciding technique for robotic dexterous hand configurations. This algorithm can be used to decide on how to configure a robotic hand so it can grasp objects in different scenarios. DĂ©veloppement dâun systĂšme intelligent de reconnaissance automatisĂ©e pour la caractĂ©risation des Ă©tats de surface de la chaussĂ©e en temps rĂ©el par une approche multicapteurs
Le rĂŽle dâun service dĂ©diĂ© Ă lâanalyse de la mĂ©tĂ©o routiĂšre est dâĂ©mettre des prĂ©visions et des avertissements aux usagers quant Ă lâĂ©tat de la chaussĂ©e, permettant ainsi dâanticiper les conditions de circulations dangereuses, notamment en pĂ©riode hivernale. Il est donc important de dĂ©finir lâĂ©tat de chaussĂ©e en tout temps. Lâobjectif de ce projet est donc de dĂ©velopper un systĂšme de dĂ©tection multicapteurs automatisĂ©e pour la caractĂ©risation en temps rĂ©el des Ă©tats de surface de la chaussĂ©e (neige, glace, humide, sec). Ce mĂ©moire se focalise donc sur le dĂ©veloppement dâune mĂ©thode de fusion de donnĂ©es images et sons par apprentissage profond basĂ©e sur la thĂ©orie de Dempster-Shafer. Les mesures directes pour lâacquisition des donnĂ©es qui ont servi Ă lâentrainement du modĂšle de fusion ont Ă©tĂ© effectuĂ©es Ă lâaide de deux capteurs Ă faible coĂ»t disponibles dans le commerce. Le premier capteur est une camĂ©ra pour enregistrer des vidĂ©os de la surface de la route. Le second capteur est un microphone pour enregistrer le bruit de lâinteraction pneu-chaussĂ©e qui caractĂ©rise chaque Ă©tat de surface. La finalitĂ© de ce systĂšme est de pouvoir fonctionner sur un nano-ordinateur pour lâacquisition, le traitement et la diffusion de lâinformation en temps rĂ©el afin dâavertir les services dâentretien routier ainsi que les usagers de la route. De façon prĂ©cise, le systĂšme se prĂ©sente comme suit :1) une architecture dâapprentissage profond classifiant chaque Ă©tat de surface Ă partir des images issues de la vidĂ©o sous forme de probabilitĂ©s ; 2) une architecture dâapprentissage profond classifiant chaque Ă©tat de surface Ă partir du son sous forme de probabilitĂ©s ; 3) les probabilitĂ©s issues de chaque architecture ont Ă©tĂ© ensuite introduites dans le modĂšle de fusion pour obtenir la dĂ©cision finale. Afin que le systĂšme soit lĂ©ger et moins coĂ»teux, il a Ă©tĂ© dĂ©veloppĂ© Ă partir dâarchitectures alliant lĂ©gĂšretĂ© et prĂ©cision Ă savoir Squeeznet pour les images et M5 pour le son. Lors de la validation, le systĂšme a dĂ©montrĂ© une bonne performance pour la dĂ©tection des Ă©tats surface avec notamment 87,9 % pour la glace noire et 97 % pour la neige fondante

This ïŹfth volume on Advances and Applications of DSmT for Information Fusion collects theoretical and applied contributions of researchers working in different ïŹelds of applications and in mathematics, and is available in open-access. The collected contributions of this volume have either been published or presented after disseminating the fourth volume in 2015 in international conferences, seminars, workshops and journals, or they are new. The contributions of each part of this volume are chronologically ordered.
First Part of this book presents some theoretical advances on DSmT, dealing mainly with modiïŹed Proportional ConïŹict Redistribution Rules (PCR) of combination with degree of intersection, coarsening techniques, interval calculus for PCR thanks to set inversion via interval analysis (SIVIA), rough set classiïŹers, canonical decomposition of dichotomous belief functions, fast PCR fusion, fast inter-criteria analysis with PCR, and improved PCR5 and PCR6 rules preserving the (quasi-)neutrality of (quasi-)vacuous belief assignment in the fusion of sources of evidence with their Matlab codes.
Because more applications of DSmT have emerged in the past years since the apparition of the fourth book of DSmT in 2015, the second part of this volume is about selected applications of DSmT mainly in building change detection, object recognition, quality of data association in tracking, perception in robotics, risk assessment for torrent protection and multi-criteria decision-making, multi-modal image fusion, coarsening techniques, recommender system, levee characterization and assessment, human heading perception, trust assessment, robotics, biometrics, failure detection, GPS systems, inter-criteria analysis, group decision, human activity recognition, storm prediction, data association for autonomous vehicles, identiïŹcation of maritime vessels, fusion of support vector machines (SVM), Silx-Furtif RUST code library for information fusion including PCR rules, and network for ship classiïŹcation.
Finally, the third part presents interesting contributions related to belief functions in general published or presented along the years since 2015. A Method for Recognizing Fatigue Driving Based on Dempster-Shafer Theory and Fuzzy Neural Network
This study proposes a method based on Dempster-Shafer theory (DST) and fuzzy neural network (FNN) to improve the reliability of recognizing fatigue driving. This method measures driving states using multifeature fusion. First, FNN is introduced to obtain the basic probability assignment (BPA) of each piece of evidence given the lack of a general solution to the definition of BPA function. Second, a modified algorithm that revises conflict evidence is proposed to reduce unreasonable fusion results when unreliable information exists. Finally, the recognition result is given according to the combination of revised evidence based on Dempsterâs rule. Experiment results demonstrate that the recognition method proposed in this paper can obtain reasonable results with the combination of information given by multiple features. Context Exploitation in Data Fusion
Complex and dynamic environments constitute a challenge for existing tracking algorithms. For this reason, modern solutions are trying to utilize any available information which could help to constrain, improve or explain the measurements. So called Context Information (CI) is understood as information that surrounds an element of interest, whose knowledge may help understanding the (estimated) situation and also in reacting to that situation. However, context discovery and exploitation are still largely unexplored research topics.
Until now, the context has been extensively exploited as a parameter in system and measurement models which led to the development of numerous approaches for the linear or non-linear constrained estimation and target tracking. More specifically, the spatial or static context is the most common source of the ambient information, i.e. features, utilized for recursive enhancement of the state variables either in the prediction or the measurement update of the filters. In the case of multiple model estimators, context can not only be related to the state but also to a certain mode of the filter. Common practice for multiple model scenarios is to represent states and context as a joint distribution of Gaussian mixtures. These approaches are commonly referred as the join tracking and classification. Alternatively, the usefulness of context was also demonstrated in aiding the measurement data association. Process of formulating a hypothesis, which assigns a particular measurement to the track, is traditionally governed by the empirical knowledge of the noise characteristics of sensors and operating environment, i.e. probability of detection, false alarm, clutter noise, which can be further enhanced by conditioning on context.
We believe that interactions between the environment and the object could be classified into actions, activities and intents, and formed into structured graphs with contextual links translated into arcs. By learning the environment model we will be able to make prediction on the target\u2019s future actions based on its past observation. Probability of target future action could be utilized in the fusion process to adjust tracker confidence on measurements. By incorporating contextual knowledge of the environment, in the form of a likelihood function, in the filter measurement update step, we have been able to reduce uncertainties of the tracking solution and improve the consistency of the track. The promising results demonstrate that the fusion of CI brings a significant performance improvement in comparison to the regular tracking approaches
