Uncertainty Management of Intelligent Feature Selection in Wireless Sensor Networks

    Get PDF
Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are envisioned to revolutionize the paradigm of monitoring complex real-world systems at a very high resolution. However, the deployment of a large number of unattended sensor nodes in hostile environments, frequent changes of environment dynamics, and severe resource constraints pose uncertainties and limit the potential use of WSN in complex real-world applications. Although uncertainty management in Artificial Intelligence (AI) is well developed and well investigated, its implications in wireless sensor environments are inadequately addressed. This dissertation addresses uncertainty management issues of spatio-temporal patterns generated from sensor data. It provides a framework for characterizing spatio-temporal pattern in WSN. Using rough set theory and temporal reasoning a novel formalism has been developed to characterize and quantify the uncertainties in predicting spatio-temporal patterns from sensor data. This research also uncovers the trade-off among the uncertainty measures, which can be used to develop a multi-objective optimization model for real-time decision making in sensor data aggregation and samplin

An Improved Differential Evolution Algorithm for Data Stream Clustering

A Few algorithms were actualized by the analysts for performing clustering of data streams. Most of these algorithms require that the number of clusters (K) has to be fixed by the customer based on input data and it can be kept settled all through the clustering process. Stream clustering has faced few difficulties in picking up K. In this paper, we propose an efficient approach for data stream clustering by embracing an Improved Differential Evolution (IDE) algorithm. The IDE algorithm is one of the quick, powerful and productive global optimization approach for programmed clustering. In our proposed approach, we additionally apply an entropy based method for distinguishing the concept drift in the data stream and in this way updating the clustering procedure online. We demonstrated that our proposed method is contrasted with Genetic Algorithm and identified as proficient optimization algorithm. The performance of our proposed technique is assessed and cr eates the accuracy of 92.29%, the precision is 86.96%, recall is 90.30% and F-measure estimate is 88.60%

A Fuzzy Clustering Algorithm for High Dimensional Streaming Data

    Get PDF
In this paper we propose a dimension reduced weighted fuzzy clustering algorithm (sWFCM-HD). The algorithm can be used for high dimensional datasets having streaming behavior. Such datasets can be found in the area of sensor networks, data originated from web click stream and data collected by internet traffic flow etc. These data’s have two special properties which separate them from other datasets: a) They have streaming behavior and b) They have higher dimensions. Optimized fuzzy clustering algorithm has already been proposed for datasets having streaming behavior or higher dimensions. But as per our information, nobody has proposed any optimized fuzzy clustering algorithm for data sets having both the properties, i.e., data sets with higher dimension and also continuously arriving streaming behavior. Experimental analysis shows that our proposed algorithm (sWFCM-HD) improves performance in terms of memory consumption as well as execution time Keywords-K-Means, Fuzzy C-Means, Weighted Fuzzy C-Means, Dimension Reduction, Clustering

Model-Based Feature Selection Based on Radial Basis Functions and Information Measures

    Get PDF
In this paper the development of a new embedded feature selection method is presented, based on a Radial-Basis-Function Neural-Fuzzy modelling structure. The proposed method is created to find the relative importance of features in a given dataset (or process in general), with special focus on manufacturing processes. The proposed approach evaluates the impact/importance of processes features by using information theoretic measures to measure the correlation between the process features and the modelling performance. Crucially, the proposed method acts during the training of the process model; hence it is an embedded method, achieving the modelling/classification task in parallel to the feature selection task. The latter is achieved by taking advantage of the information in the output layer of the Neural Fuzzy structure; in the presented case this is a TSK-type polynomial function. Two information measures are evaluated in this work, both based on information entropy: mutual information, and cross-sample entropy. The proposed methodology is tested against two popular datasets in the literature (IRIS - plant data, AirFoil - manufacturing/design data), and one more case study relevant to manufacturing - the heat treatment of steel. Results show the good and reliable performance of the developed modelling structure, on par with existing published work, as well as the good performance of the feature selection task in terms of correctly identifying important process features
