    A Service Component-based Accounting and Charging Architecture to Support Interim Mechanisms across Multiple Domains

    Today, telematics services are often compositions of different chargeable service components offered by different service providers. To enhance component-based accounting and charging, the service composition information is used to match with the corresponding charging structure of a service session. This enables the sharing of revenues among the service providers, and calculation of the total cost for the end-user. When multiple independent service providers are involved, it is a great challenge to apply interim accounting and charging during a service session in order to minimize financial risks between business partners. Another interesting development is the trend towards outsourcing accounting and charging processes to specialized business partners. This requires a decoupling between provisioning and accounting and charging processes. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive component-based accounting and charging architecture to support service session provisioning across multiple domains. The architecture, modeled in UML, incorporates an interim accounting and charging mechanism to enable the processing and exchange of accounting information needed to update intermediate charges for separate service components and the user's credit, even during the service provisioning phase

    Reuse-Mechanisms for Mass Customizing IT-Service Agreements

    Divergent requirements of customers limit the potential of information technology (IT) service providers to achieve economies of scale through the standardization of service agreements. Continuous change requests in ongoing IT-service relationships complicate matters even more. Mass customization strategies have successfully addressed similar challenges in industrial sectors by reusing, i.e. composing and adapting standardized modules. Transforming this strategy to IT-service management, we present an approach of reuse-based IT-service customization in order to increase both effectiveness and efficiency at the stages of initial service specification, customization of offerings, and continuous adjustment of ongoing service agreements. This is proposed to be achieved by adopting well-established reusemechanisms of reference information modeling. Their strict application in service agreement specification aims for enabling industrialized on-demand service contracting and provisioning. The approach has been developed and prototypically applied in close cooperation with IT-organizations

    Services for Business Processes in EA – Are They in Relation?

    Business services arguably play a central role in service-based information systems as they would fill in the gap between the technicality of Service-Oriented Architecture and the business processes captured in Enterprise Architecture. Business services have distinctive features that are not typically observed in plain Web services. The representation of business services requires that we view human activity and human-mediated functionality through the lens of computing and systems engineering. We give insights into the modeling of business services and relationships between them. This work sheds light on the analysis, design and reusability of business-aware services that business owners, entrepreneurs and business architects alike would find useful when dealing with their service ecosystem

    Architecting business process maps

    Process maps provide a high-level overview of an organization's business processes. While used for many years in different shapes and forms, there is little shared understanding of the concept and its relationship to business process architecture. In this paper, we position the concept of process map within the domain of architecture description. By 'architecting' the concept of business process map, we identify and clarify diverging views of this concept as found in the literature and set requirements for describing process maps. A meta-model for a process mapping language is produced as a result. The proposed meta-model allows investigating the suitability of EA modelling languages as a basis for defining a domain-specific language for process mapping along with the creation of a better understanding of business process architecture in relation to enterprise architecture, which can be beneficial for both BPM and EA professionals

    On interoperability and conformance assessment in service composition

    The process of composing a service from other services typically involves multiple models. These models may represent the service from distinct perspectives, e.g., to model the different roles of systems involved in the service, and at distinct abstraction levels, e.g., to model the service’s capability, interface or the orchestration that implements the service. The consistency among these models needs to be maintained in order to guarantee the correctness of the composition process. Two types of consistency relations are distinguished: interoperability, which concerns the ability of different roles to interoperate, and conformance, which concerns the correct implementation of an abstract model by a more concrete model. This paper discusses the need for and use of techniques to assess interoperability and conformance in a service composition process. The paper shows how these consistency relations can be described and analysed using concepts from the COSMO framework. Examples are presented to illustrate how interoperability and conformance can be assessed

A abordagem é centrada em dois tipos de mecanismos da Web semântica: workflows científicos, para especificar e compor serviços Web; e ontologias de domínio, para viabilizar a interoperabilidade e o gerenciamento semânticos dos dados e processos. As principais contribuições desta tese são: (i) um arcabouço teórico para a descrição, localização e composição de dados e serviços na Web, com regras para verificar a consistência semântica de composições desses recursos; (ii) métodos baseados em ontologias de domínio para auxiliar a integração de dados e estimar a proveniência de dados em processos cooperativos na Web; (iii) implementação e validação parcial das propostas, em urna aplicação real no domínio de planejamento agrícola, analisando os benefícios e as limitações de eficiência e escalabilidade da tecnologia atual da Web semântica, face a grandes volumes de dadosAbstract: POESIA (Processes for Open-Ended Systems for Information Analysis), the approach proposed in this work, supports the construction of complex processes that involve the integration and analysis of data from several sources, particularly in scientific applications. This approach is centered in two types of semantic Web mechanisms: scientific workflows, to specify and compose Web services; and domain ontologies, to enable semantic interoperability and management of data and processes.
