Education at all levels is one of the major driver of sustainable development in any nation. The number of institutions of higher learning and enrollment in Africa has continued to increase significantly over the last few years. However, the needs of the knowledge society is still yet to be met due to challenges of overcrowding, infrastructure deficiencies, and inadequate access to international knowledge. In this paper, we developed a robust network architecture that enables real-time information exchange within and among connected campuses using connections of local networks and mobile applications. Campus Bridge Information Grid (CBRIG) is a novel initiative that meets the information and social needs of staff, faculty, and students of tertiary institutions in developing nations. The expanded version of CBRIG named i-Spider Information Grid (i-SPIG), will facilitate real-time information exchange among university campuses that are already on the C-BRIG platform. The proposed framework will help in boosting the productivity of every member of the university community, and foster research collaborations and social interactions among several institutions that are physical separated but digitally connecte

In connection with the transition to a knowledge-based economy, at a time when a key factor in the development of society is the accumulated human knowledge and skills, as well as the availability of a wide range of users, intelligent systems are becoming very popular. Accordingly, the demand of the ergonomic and effective means of designing this class system is growing as well. The most time-consuming and most important stage of intelligent system development is the formation of the system knowledge base which ultimately determines the efficiency and quality of the entire intelligent system. Knowledge representation and processing models and methods as well as the intelligent system development techniques operating on the basis of these methods and models have a crucial role in relation to this. The article explores the different aspects of intelligent collaborative educational systems, describes the overall structure of an intelligent collaborative educational system and reflects the different steps of development the system

The COVID-19 pandemic and international students: A mixed-methods approach to relationships between social media use, social support, and mental healthThe COVID-19 pandemic has added significant stress to international students in the U.S. who already facemyriad challenges in adjusting to their host country. We used a mixed-method approach combining surveyand interview research involving international students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs at aU.S. university to analyze how their social media use and perceived social support and social adjustmentare associated with their sense of mental well-being when taking into account demographic and socialpsychological characteristics. Our findings show that international students spent an increased amount oftime on social media during the pandemic for both networking and information seeking purposes. Thosewho use social media primarily for networking purposes reported better mental health, whereas socialmedia use for information seeking was not significantly associated with their mental health. Social supportwas an important predictor of international students’ social media use. This study provides scholarly andpolicy implications for supporting international students during a public health crisis

    Get PDF
Background: Agile methodologies, such as Scrum and Kanban, have gained significant popularity in software development organizations. However, there is a need to compare and contrast these methodologies to determine their effectiveness and suitability in specific conditions. Objective: The objective of this systematic mapping study is to compare Scrum and Kanban in software development organizations and identify their methodological differences, benefits, drawbacks, and current/future trends. Method: A comprehensive literature review was conducted, analyzing 47 primary studies. Data synthesis and analysis were performed to extract relevant information on the characteristics of Scrum and Kanban. Results: The study identified several methodological differences between Scrum and Kanban, highlighting their unique characteristics and implementation considerations. The study presents a detailed breakdown of the reported differences, benefits, drawbacks, and trends associated with these methodologies. Conclusions: Choosing between Scrum and Kanban depends on the specific needs, context, and goals of the organization. Scrum excels in areas such as path clarity, delivery time, and teamwork, while Kanban offers advantages in flexibility, easy transition, and focus on work. The findings emphasize the importance of understanding requirements, team dynamics, project characteristics, and customer expectations when selecting an agile methodology. This systematic mapping study contributes to the understanding of Scrum and Kanban in software development organizations. By considering the findings, organizations can make informed decisions and optimize their agile practices to enhance productivity, efficiency, and quality in software development projects

In this thesis, the different methodologies for analyzing the UX experience are explored from a user-centered perspective. These classical and well-founded methodologies only allow the extraction of cognitive data, that is, the data that the user is capable of consciously communicating. The objective of this thesis is to propose a methodology that uses the extraction of biometric data to complement the aforementioned cognitive information with emotional (and formal) data. This thesis is not only theoretical, since the proposed model (and its evolution) is complemented with the different tests, validations and investigations in which they have been applied, often in conjunction with research groups from other areas with success
