Optimizing wavelet neural networks using modified cuckoo search for multi-step ahead chaotic time series prediction

    Get PDF
Determining the optimal number of hidden nodes and their proper initial locations are essentially crucial before the wavelet neural networks (WNNs) start their learning process. In this paper, a novel strategy known as the modified cuckoo search algorithm (MCSA), is proposed for WNNs initialization in order to improve its generalization performance. The MCSA begins with an initial population of cuckoo eggs, which represent the translation vectors of the wavelet hidden nodes, and subsequently refines their locations by imitating the breeding mechanism of cuckoos. The resulting solutions from the MCSA are then used as the initial translation vectors for the WNNs. The feasibility of the proposed method is evaluated by forecasting a benchmark chaotic time series, and its superior prediction accuracy compared with that of conventional WNNs demonstrates its potential benefit

An analysis of the influence of air nozzles’ shape design on the NOx emission in the large-scale CFB boilers operated under comparable operating conditions was undertaken in the study. The obtained results have shown, that the change in primary air distribution in the lower part of the combustion chamber has substantially influenced the intensity of the combustion process and the temperature distribution along the CFB structure height

Simulation of Combustion and Thermal Flow inside an Industrial Boiler

    Get PDF
Industrial boilers that produce steam or electric power represent a large capital investment as well as a crucial facility for overall plant operations. In real applications, the operation of the superheater for producing high-pressure, high-temperature steam may result in problems frequently caused by ruptured superheater tubes. To make the boiler more efficient, less emission and less prone to tube rupture problems, it is important to understand the combustion and thermal flow behaviors inside the boiler. This study performs a detailed simulation of combustion and thermal flow behaviors inside an industrial boiler. The simulations are conducted using the commercial CFD package FLUENT. The 3-D Navier-Stokes equations and five species transport equations are solved with the eddy-breakup combustion model. Calculation of NOx is performed after obtaining a converged flow, thermal and combustion solution. The results provide insight into the detailed thermal-flow and combustion in the boiler and showing possible reasons for superheater ruptur

CFD model of SNCR with shifting effect of CO

    Get PDF
The paper deals with CFD simulation of SNCR technology with implemented CO temperature shift. The influence of CO on the SNCR process is described by empirical adjustment of kinetics parameters of chemical reactions. Results of CFD simulation were compared with results of experimental measurements. Although the proposed kinetics model of SNCR technology is simplified, it is able to describe reduction of NOx and other phenomena of SNCR with good precision. The model can be used to verify of injection levels and injection lances arrangement at design phase.Web of Science2012210

A Combustion Process Optimization and Numerical Analysis for the Low Emission Operation of Pulverized Coal-Fired Boiler

    Get PDF
The paper presents experimental and numerical investigation of pulverized coal combustion process analysis and optimization. The research was conducted on the front-fired pulverized coal boiler with dedicated low-NOx furnace installation. In order to find optimal boiler operating conditions the acoustic gas temperature measurement system and mass flow rate of pulverized coal measurement system was applied. The uniform temperature distribution as a result of uniform coal and air flow provides the optimal combustion process with low level of NOx emission and total organic carbon content in ash. Experimental results confirm that the monitoring and control of fuel and air flow distribution allows to optimize combustion process by increasing thermal efficiency of the boiler. In the numerical part of investigation, the complex CFD model of pulverized coal boiler was made. The calculations of turbulent, reactive, and thermal flow processes were performed at different boiler operating conditions retrieved from power plant on-line monitoring system. The results of numerical simulations enable to identify the optimal boiler operating conditions

MINIMIZATION OF TOXIC EMISSIONS DURING BURNING LOW-GRADE FUEL AT KAZAKHSTAN THERMAL POWER PLANT

This paper presents new results of computational experiments on the implementation of Overfire Air (OFA) technologies using an example of a combustion chamber of the BKZ-75 boiler of the Shakhtinskaya power plant (Shakhtinsk, Kazakhstan) burning high-ash Karaganda coal. The effect of mass air flow through special nozzles located above the burner level on the flow aerodynamics, temperature fields, concentration fields of carbon monoxide CO and nitrogen NO over the entire volume of the combustion chamber was studied. The studied characteristics were compared for various percentages of supplying additional air through OFA injectors: OFA is 0% (basic version), 10% and 18 %. It was shown that the installation of OFA injectors leads to a change in the field of the total velocity vector, temperature, and concentrations of carbon oxides and nitrogen. An increase in the percentage of air supplied through OFA injectors to 18% leads to a decrease in the concentrations of carbon monoxide CO by about 36% and nitrogen oxide NO by 25% compared with the base case. The obtained results will optimize the process of burning pulverized fuel in the combustion chamber of the BKZ-75 boiler, increase the efficiency of fuel burnout, reduce harmful emissions and introduce OFAtechnology at other coal-burning thermal power plants
