Comprehensive Information Integration Modeling Framework for Video Titling
In e-commerce, consumer-generated videos, which in general deliver consumers'
individual preferences for the different aspects of certain products, are
massive in volume. To recommend these videos to potential consumers more
effectively, diverse and catchy video titles are critical. However,
consumer-generated videos seldom accompany appropriate titles. To bridge this
gap, we integrate comprehensive sources of information, including the content
of consumer-generated videos, the narrative comment sentences supplied by
consumers, and the product attributes, in an end-to-end modeling framework.
Although automatic video titling is very useful and demanding, it is much less
addressed than video captioning. The latter focuses on generating sentences
that describe videos as a whole while our task requires the product-aware
multi-grained video analysis. To tackle this issue, the proposed method
consists of two processes, i.e., granular-level interaction modeling and
abstraction-level story-line summarization. Specifically, the granular-level
interaction modeling first utilizes temporal-spatial landmark cues, descriptive
words, and abstractive attributes to builds three individual graphs and
recognizes the intra-actions in each graph through Graph Neural Networks (GNN).
Then the global-local aggregation module is proposed to model inter-actions
across graphs and aggregate heterogeneous graphs into a holistic graph
representation. The abstraction-level story-line summarization further
considers both frame-level video features and the holistic graph to utilize the
interactions between products and backgrounds, and generate the story-line
topic of the video. We collect a large-scale dataset accordingly from
real-world data in Taobao, a world-leading e-commerce platform, and will make
the desensitized version publicly available to nourish further development of
the research community...Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures, to appear in KDD 2020 proceeding
Using the Technique of Subtitling to Improve Business Communicative Skills
The purpose of this article is to present a novel Computer Assisted Language Learning activity that can enhance both written and oral skills while providing listening practice and cultural information. With the help of a subtitling software, Business English students, especially those in distant learning environments, can progress on difficult areas related to functional language learning. All this thanks to a novel and highly motivational method: subtitling short business-related video scenes (taken from films, TV series or other sources) related to a particular com- municative function with ad-hoc activities.
Dilated Context Integrated Network with Cross-Modal Consensus for Temporal Emotion Localization in Videos
Understanding human emotions is a crucial ability for intelligent robots to
provide better human-robot interactions. The existing works are limited to
trimmed video-level emotion classification, failing to locate the temporal
window corresponding to the emotion. In this paper, we introduce a new task,
named Temporal Emotion Localization in videos~(TEL), which aims to detect human
emotions and localize their corresponding temporal boundaries in untrimmed
videos with aligned subtitles. TEL presents three unique challenges compared to
temporal action localization: 1) The emotions have extremely varied temporal
dynamics; 2) The emotion cues are embedded in both appearances and complex
plots; 3) The fine-grained temporal annotations are complicated and
labor-intensive. To address the first two challenges, we propose a novel
dilated context integrated network with a coarse-fine two-stream architecture.
The coarse stream captures varied temporal dynamics by modeling
multi-granularity temporal contexts. The fine stream achieves complex plots
understanding by reasoning the dependency between the multi-granularity
temporal contexts from the coarse stream and adaptively integrates them into
fine-grained video segment features. To address the third challenge, we
introduce a cross-modal consensus learning paradigm, which leverages the
inherent semantic consensus between the aligned video and subtitle to achieve
weakly-supervised learning. We contribute a new testing set with 3,000
manually-annotated temporal boundaries so that future research on the TEL
problem can be quantitatively evaluated. Extensive experiments show the
effectiveness of our approach on temporal emotion localization. The repository

Fit-for-Purpose Land Administration- Providing Secure Land Rights at Scale. Volume 2: Country Implementation
This Special Issue provides an insight, collated from 26 articles, focusing on various aspects of the Fit-For-Purpose Land Administration (FFPLA) concept and its application. It presents some influential and innovative trends and recommendations for designing, implementing, maintaining and further developing Fit-For-Purpose solutions for providing secure land rights at scale. The first group of 14 articles is published in Volume One and discusses various conceptual innovations related to spatial, legal and institutional aspects and its wider applications within land use management. The second group of 12 articles is published in Volume Two and focuses on case studies from various countries throughout the world, providing evidence and lessons learned from the FFPLA implementation process
Is Adding the E Enough?: Investigating the Impact of K-12 Engineering Standards on the Implementation of STEM Integration.
The problems that we face in our ever-changing, increasingly global society are multidisciplinary, and many require the integration of multiple science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts to solve them. National calls for improvement of STEM education in the United States are driving changes in policy, particularly in academic standards. Research on STEM integration in K-12 classrooms has not kept pace with the sweeping policy changes in STEM education. This study addresses the need for research to explore the translation of broad, national-level policy statements regarding STEM education and integration to state-level policies and implementation in K-12 classrooms. An interpretive multicase study design was employed to conduct an in-depth investigation of secondary STEM teachers\u27 implementation of STEM integration in their classrooms during a yearlong professional development program. The interpretive approach was used because it provides holistic descriptions and explanations for the particular phenomenon, in this case STEM integration. The results of this study demonstrate the possibilities of policies that use state standards documents as a mechanism to integrate engineering into science standards. Our cases suggest that STEM integration can be implemented most successfully when mathematics and science teachers work together both in a single classroom (co-teaching) and in multiple classrooms (content teaching—common theme)
Gender in Agriculture Sourcebook
The purpose of the Sourcebook is to act as a guide for practitioners and technical staff in addressing gender issues and integrating gender-responsive actions in the design and implementation of agricultural projects and programs. It speaks not with gender specialists on how to improve their skills but rather reaches out to technical experts to guide them in thinking through how to integrate gender dimensions into their operations. The Sourcebook aims to deliver practical advice, guidelines, principles, and descriptions and illustrations of approaches that have worked so far to achieve the goal of effective gender mainstreaming in the agricultural operations of development agencies. It captures and expands the main messages of the World Development Report 2008: Agriculture for Development and is considered an important tool to facilitate the operationalization and implementation of the report's key principles on gender equality and women's empowerment
