Pairwise comparison matrices and the error-free property of the decision maker

    Get PDF
Pairwise comparison is a popular assessment method either for deriving criteria-weights or for evaluating alternatives according to a given criterion. In real-world applications consistency of the comparisons rarely happens: intransitivity can occur. The aim of the paper is to discuss the relationship between the consistency of the decision maker—described with the error-free property—and the consistency of the pairwise comparison matrix (PCM). The concept of error-free matrix is used to demonstrate that consistency of the PCM is not a sufficient condition of the error-free property of the decision maker. Informed and uninformed decision makers are defined. In the first stage of an assessment method a consistent or near-consistent matrix should be achieved: detecting, measuring and improving consistency are part of any procedure with both types of decision makers. In the second stage additional information are needed to reveal the decision maker’s real preferences. Interactive questioning procedures are recommended to reach that goal

The right Placement Job Training (PKL) selection for the students is a very important thing, because it can maximize the abilities and talents of each student so that can produce graduates who are ready to compete in the world of work. The most common problem of PKL selection is the lack of competence in terms of the needs of the company, as well as the needs of students will be on PKL place selection. To overcome these problems required a computer system in the form of group decision support systems (GDSS) who can help South Aceh Polytechnic for the selection of the right vendors for students.       In this study, Group decision support system developed by using AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) and Borda for group decision-making. AHP method is used to determine the weights of criteria and sub-criteria of each company where PKL alternative to alternative perangkingan company for each student from each of the decision makers. Borda method used for incorporation gradement results obtained by each decision maker so getting rank final and decisive recommendations PKL student places.            Based on the outcome of a group decision support system in the form of a rank of criteria values of students to alternative company where PKL placement selection. And alternative companies that get the highest yield serve as recommendations PKL student placement decisions for computer engineering department Polytechnics South Aceh

However, there is no strong evidence, in the current literature, to validate their use in decision-making. This paper reports on the design of two bounded rationality principle based simulation methods, and detailed experimental results, that aim at providing evidence to answer the following two questions: (1) what are the conditions under which incomplete preference relations are better than complete preference relations?; and (2) can self-confident preference relations improve the quality of decisions? The experimental results show that when the decision-maker is of medium rational degree, incomplete preference relations with a degree of incompleteness between 20% and 40% outperform complete preference relations; otherwise, the opposite happens. Furthermore, in most cases the quality of the decision making improves when using self-confident preference relations instead of incomplete preference relations. The paper ends with the presentation of a sensitivity analysis that contributes to the robustness of the experimental conclusions

The selection of an entry-level music librarian: The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) as a new model

This paper aims to present how to select the best entry-level music librarian by using the Analytic Hierarchy Process technique. The reason why we used this technique is due to the fact that it helps the decision makers easily calculate ‘the importance weights of professional criteria’ and ‘the extent to which the candidates meet the professional criteria’ to come to a final decision on each candidate. With this purpose, we firstly described 7 professional criteria (a1, a2, a3,…, a7) that must be met by 3 entry-level music librarian candidates. Secondly, we decided each candidate’s performance score representing the extent to which each candidate meets these criteria. For this, we used both a 9-point scale for pairwise comparisons and Saaty’s eigenvector method. Thirdly, we assigned the importance weights to the required criteria. Fourthly, we performed the consistency test to measure the consistencies of our calculations with the aid of the consistency ratio (CR). Fifthly, we obtained the final performance scores of each candidate as the candidate 1= 0,464, the candidate 2= 0, 296, and the candidate 3= 0, 240. Finally, we selected the candidate 1 who earned the highest score (0,464) in total as the best entry-level music libraria

Previous review papers on analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) mainly focused on the application areas and paid scant attention to the framework development of AHP, TOPSIS and their hybrid methods. The purpose of this paper is to review the literature on analytic hierarchy process (AHP), type of scale used in AHP, modified AHP, rank reversal problem of AHP, validation of AHP, application of AHP, TOPSIS, normalization methods for TOPSIS, distance functions for TOPSIS, fuzzy hierarchical TOPSIS, rank reversal problem of TOPSIS and various applications of TOPSIS to prepare a readymade reference for academician, research scholar and industry people. In this regard, research works are gathered from 1980 to 2013 (searched via ScienceDirect, IEEE etc) and out of which 61 research papers are critically assayed to depict the development of AHP, TOPSIS and their hybrid methods. Meaningful information and critical remarks are summarized in various tabular formats and charts to give readers easy information

The rank reversal problem in multi-criteria decision making : a literature review

Despite the importance of multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques for constructing effective decision models, there are many criticisms due to the occurrence of a problem called rank reversal. Nevertheless, there is a lack of a systematic literature review on this important subject which involves different methods. This study reviews the pertinent literature on rank reversal, based on 130 related articles published from 1980 to 2015 in international journals, which were gathered and analyzed according to the following perspectives: multicriteria technique, year and journal in which the papers were published, co-authorship network, rank reversal types, and research goal. Thus our survey provides recommendations for future research, besides useful information and knowledge regarding rank reversal in the MCDM field

An overview on managing additive consistency of reciprocal preference relations for consistency-driven decision making and Fusion: Taxonomy and future directions

    Get PDF
The file attached to this record is the author's final peer reviewed version. The Publisher's final version can be found by following the DOI link. The reciprocal preference relation (RPR) is a powerful tool to represent decision makers’ preferences in decision making problems. In recent years, various types of RPRs have been reported and investigated, some of them being the ‘classical’ RPRs, interval-valued RPRs and hesitant RPRs. Additive consistency is one of the most commonly used property to measure the consistency of RPRs, with many methods developed to manage additive consistency of RPRs. To provide a clear perspective on additive consistency issues of RPRs, this paper reviews the consistency measurements of the different types of RPRs. Then, consistency-driven decision making and information fusion methods are also reviewed and classified into four main types: consistency improving methods; consistency-based methods to manage incomplete RPRs; consistency control in consensus decision making methods; and consistency-driven linguistic decision making methods. Finally, with respect to insights gained from prior researches, further directions for the research are proposed
