Micropattern gas detector technologies and applications, the work of the RD51 collaboration
The RD51 collaboration was founded in April 2008 to coordinate and facilitate
efforts for development of micropattern gaseous detectors (MPGDs). The 75
institutes from 25 countries bundle their effort, experience and resources to
develop these emerging micropattern technologies.
MPGDs are already employed in several nuclear and high-energy physics
experiments, medical imaging instruments and photodetection applications; many
more applications are foreseen. They outperform traditional wire chambers in
terms of rate capability, time and position resolution, granularity, stability
and radiation hardness. RD51 supports efforts to make MPGDs also suitable for
large areas, increase cost-efficiency, develop portable detectors and improve
ease-of-use.
The collaboration is organized in working groups which develop detectors with
new geometries, study and simulate their properties, and design optimized
electronics. Among the common supported projects are creation of test
infrastructure such as beam test and irradiation facilities, and the production

Semantic query languages for knowledge-based web services in a construction context
Since the early 2000s, different frameworks were set up to enable web-based collaboration in building projects. Unfortunately, none of these initiatives was granted a long life. Recently, however, the use of web technologies in the building industry has been gaining momentum again, considered some promising technologies for reaching a more interoperable BIM practice. Specifically, this relates to (1) Linked Data and Semantic Web technologies, and (2) cloud-based applications. In order to combine these into a network of interlinked applications and datastores, an agreed-upon mechanism for automatic communication and data retrieval needs to be used. Apart from the W3C standard SPARQL, often considered too high a threshold for developers to implement, there are some recent GraphQL-based solutions that simplify the querying process and its implementation into web services. In this paper, we review two recent open source technologies based on GraphQL, that enable to query Linked Data on the web: GraphQL-LD and HyperGraphQL
Information technologies that facilitate care coordination: provider and patient perspectives
Health information technology is a core infrastructure for the chronic care model, integrated care, and other organized care delivery models. From the provider perspective, health information exchange (HIE) helps aggregate and share information about a patient or population from several sources. HIE technologies include direct messages, transfer of care, and event notification services. From the patient perspective, personal health records, secure messaging, text messages, and other mHealth applications may coordinate patients and providers. Patient-reported outcomes and social media technologies enable patients to share health information with many stakeholders, including providers, caregivers, and other patients. An information architecture that integrates personal health record and mHealth applications, with HIEs that combine the electronic health records of multiple healthcare systems will create a rich, dynamic ecosystem for patient collaboration

The study reviewed relevant literature on the topic of discussion and the researcher used Google search engine to access scholarly articles from open access databases that are relevant to the study which formed the basis for the literature that was reviewed and from where conclusions were drawn

Design issues for VREs: can richer records of meetings enhance collaboration?
Technologies for collaboration have advanced significantly in the past ten years. Through tools such as the Access Grid (AG), it is now possible to conduct multi-site meetings involving large numbers of participants interacting using high quality and video and sharing data. Virtual Venues within the AG toolkit store data, documents, applications and services which can be accessed across multiple sites. These documents might include records of the meetings themselves. GATE -- an Environment to Support Research and Development in Natural Language Engineering
We describe a software environment to support research and development in natural language (NL) engineering. This environment -- GATE (General Architecture for Text Engineering) -- aims to advance research in the area of machine processing of natural languages by providing a software infrastructure on top of which heterogeneous NL component modules may be evaluated and refined individually or may be combined into larger application systems. Thus, GATE aims to support both researchers and developers working on component technologies (e.g. parsing, tagging, morphological analysis) and those working on developing end-user applications (e.g. information extraction, text summarisation, document generation, machine translation, and second language learning). GATE will promote reuse of component technology, permit specialisation and collaboration in large-scale projects, and allow for the comparison and evaluation of alternative technologies.
