    Telecommunications is first and foremost an exchange of information in any given space. Traditional communication networks are always vulnerable to destruction during natural disasters which often lead to the death and injury of thousands of people where rescue teams are unable to locate the victims on right time. This work presents a proposal about the possibility of building a wireless mobile network to exchange emergency messages when the damage affects the most existing telecommunication networks.     Telecommunication is the exchange of information and data over significant distance by electronic means. During extreme events such as natural disasters and urgent events it becomes more and more important to preserve the communication devices and infrastructure to exchange information between rescue teams and persons in damaged zone based on their area. When extreme event happens, many communication scenarios can be considered. We focus on a the case of destruction of traditional communication networks during an emergency event such as natural disasters in which it is important to find an alternative network architecture to prevent the death and injury of thousands of people. The rescue teams are unable to locate and communicate with victims on right time. This work presents network architectural design model to extend the range of WIFI networks and help people access to Internet or get rescue when the damage affects the most existing telecommunication networks. This model is validated by analyzing two communication scenarios

    Decision-Support System for Safety and Security Assessment and Management in Smart Cities

    Counter-terrorism and its preventive and response actions are crucial factors in security planning and protection of mass events, soft targets and critical infrastructures in urban environments. This paper presents a comprehensive Decision Support System developed under the umbrella of the S4AllCitites project, that can be integrated with legacy systems deployed in the Smart Cities. The system includes urban pedestrian and vehicular evacuation, considering ad-hoc predictive models of the evolution of incendiary and mass shooting attacks in conjunction with a probabilistic model for threat assessment in case of improvised explosive devices. The main objective of the system is to provide decision support to public or private security operators in the planning and real time phases in the prevention or intervention against a possible attack, providing information on evacuation strategies, the probability or expected impact of terrorist threats and the state of the traffic network in normal or unusual conditions allowing the emergency to be managed throughout its evolution

    Security and the smart city: A systematic review

    The implementation of smart technology in cities is often hailed as the solution to many urban challenges such as transportation, waste management, and environmental protection. Issues of security and crime prevention, however, are in many cases neglected. Moreover, when researchers do introduce new smart security technologies, they rarely discuss their implementation or question how new smart city security might affect traditional policing and urban planning processes. This systematic review explores the recent literature concerned with new ‘smart city’ security technologies and aims to investigate to what extent these new interventions correspond with traditional functions of security interventions. Through an extensive literature search we compiled a list of security interventions for smart cities and suggest several changes to the conceptual status quo in the field. Ultimately, we propose three clear categories to categorise security interventions in smart cities: Those interventions that use new sensors but traditional actuators, those that seek to make old systems smart, and those that introduce entirely new functions. These themes are then discussed in detail and the importance of each group of interventions for the overall field of urban security and governance is assessed

This paper introduces a comprehensive Decision Support System developed as part of the S4AllCitites project, designed to seamlessly integrate with existing legacy systems in Smart Cities. The system encompasses urban pedestrian and vehicular evacuation, incorporating predictive models to anticipate the progression of incendiary and mass shooting attacks, alongside a probabilistic model for threat assessment in the case of improvised explosive devices. A notable achievement of this research is the successful implementation and deployment of the system in operational environments through pilot studies. It empowers public and private security operators with real time decision support capabilities during both prevention and intervention stages of potential attacks. The decision support information provided encompasses various aspects, including optimal evacuation strategies, estimated egress times, pedestrian movement profiles, probability assessments, and the potential impact of different terrorist threats in terms of casualties. Additionally, the system offers real-time insights into the status of the traffic network under normal and unusual conditions, enabling efficient emergency management throughout its progression. This includes the ability to identify optimal intervention routes and assess the impact of anomalous traffic resulting from evacuations

    O conceito de Cidades Inteligentes ganhou maior atenção nos círculos acadêmicos, industriais e governamentais. À medida que a cidade se desenvolve ao longo do tempo, componentes e subsistemas como redes inteligentes, gerenciamento inteligente de água, tráfego inteligente e sistemas de transporte, sistemas de gerenciamento de resíduos inteligentes, sistemas de segurança inteligentes ou governança eletrônica são adicionados. Esses componentes ingerem e geram uma grande quantidade de dados estruturados, semiestruturados ou não estruturados que podem ser processados usando uma variedade de algoritmos em lotes, microlotes ou em tempo real, visando a melhoria de qualidade de vida dos cidadãos. Esta pesquisa secundária tem como objetivo facilitar a identificação de lacunas neste campo, bem como alinhar o trabalho dos pesquisadores com outros para desenvolver temas de pesquisa mais fortes. Neste estudo, é utilizada a metodologia de pesquisa formal de mapeamento sistemático para fornecer uma revisão abrangente das tecnologias de Big Data na implantação de cidades inteligentes

    CityPro : an integrated city-protection collaborative platform

    It’s a big challenge to deal with security in a city. Technology advancements are influencing our life, cities are evolving, and modern cities are referring more and more to digital technologies. Currently, a huge amount of standalone independent-systems operate in the city, their goal is to satisfy some business activities, e.g. banking, customs, hospitals, etc. Data collected by these systems represents, if integrated, a key element in any decision making process. This paper presents a, working, smart collaborative platform to integrate multiple systems to serve the surveillance activities in a city or country. It consists of a collaborative surveillance system, called CityPro. The architecture that we propose is a future vision to protect people and monitor public infrastructures, such as bridges, roads, buildings, etc.; it is designed to deal with and/or prevent abnormal activities like terrorist attacks. CityPro is expected to operate in live-mode by using (intended to use) city adapted IT-infrastructures. At the end of this paper, a typical case study is given, and challenges and future works are also discussed
