A critical look at power law modelling of the Internet
This paper takes a critical look at the usefulness of power law models of the
Internet. The twin focuses of the paper are Internet traffic and topology
generation. The aim of the paper is twofold. Firstly it summarises the state of
the art in power law modelling particularly giving attention to existing open
research questions. Secondly it provides insight into the failings of such
models and where progress needs to be made for power law research to feed
through to actual improvements in network performance.Comment: To appear Computer Communication
Formal security analysis of registration protocols for interactive systems: a methodology and a case of study
In this work we present and formally analyze CHAT-SRP (CHAos based
Tickets-Secure Registration Protocol), a protocol to provide interactive and
collaborative platforms with a cryptographically robust solution to classical
security issues. Namely, we focus on the secrecy and authenticity properties
while keeping a high usability. In this sense, users are forced to blindly
trust the system administrators and developers. Moreover, as far as we know,
the use of formal methodologies for the verification of security properties of
communication protocols isn't yet a common practice. We propose here a
methodology to fill this gap, i.e., to analyse both the security of the
proposed protocol and the pertinence of the underlying premises. In this
concern, we propose the definition and formal evaluation of a protocol for the
distribution of digital identities. Once distributed, these identities can be
used to verify integrity and source of information. We base our security
analysis on tools for automatic verification of security protocols widely
accepted by the scientific community, and on the principles they are based
upon. In addition, it is assumed perfect cryptographic primitives in order to
focus the analysis on the exchange of protocol messages. The main property of
our protocol is the incorporation of tickets, created using digests of chaos
based nonces (numbers used only once) and users' personal data. Combined with a
multichannel authentication scheme with some previous knowledge, these tickets
provide security during the whole protocol by univocally linking each
registering user with a single request. [..]Comment: 32 pages, 7 figures, 8 listings, 1 tabl
The Patch-Levy-Based Bees Algorithm Applied to Dynamic Optimization Problems
Many real-world optimization problems are actually of dynamic nature. These problems change over time in terms of the objective function, decision variables, constraints, and so forth. Therefore, it is very important to study the performance of a metaheuristic algorithm in dynamic environments to assess the robustness of the algorithm to deal with real-word problems. In addition, it is important to adapt the existing metaheuristic algorithms to perform well in dynamic environments. This paper investigates a recently proposed version of Bees Algorithm, which is called Patch-Levy-based Bees Algorithm (PLBA), on solving dynamic problems, and adapts it to deal with such problems. The performance of the PLBA is compared with other BA versions and other state-of-the-art algorithms on a set of dynamic multimodal benchmark problems of different degrees of difficulties. The results of the experiments show that PLBA achieves better results than the other BA variants. The obtained results also indicate that PLBA significantly outperforms some of the other state-of-the-art algorithms and is competitive with others
Computational Analysis of Interleaving PN-Sequences with Different Polynomials
Binary PN-sequences generated by LFSRs exhibit good statistical properties; however, due to their intrinsic linearity, they are not suitable for cryptographic applications. In order to break such a linearity, several approaches can be implemented. For example, one can interleave several PN-sequences to increase the linear complexity. In this work, we present a deep randomness study of the resultant sequences of interleaving binary PN-sequences coming from different characteristic polynomials with the same degree. We analyze the period and the linear complexity, as well as many other important cryptographic properties of such sequences. This work was supported in part by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) of the Ministry of Science and Innovation (MICINN), project P2QProMeTe (PID2020-112586RB-I00/AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033). Gravitational wave astronomy
The first decade of the new millenium should see the first direct detections
of gravitational waves. This will be a milestone for fundamental physics and it
will open the new observational science of gravitational wave astronomy. But
gravitational waves already play an important role in the modeling of
astrophysical systems. I review here the present state of gravitational
radiation theory in relativity and astrophysics, and I then look at the
development of detector sensitivity over the next decade, both on the ground
(such as LIGO) and in space (LISA). I review the sources of gravitational waves
that are likely to play an important role in observations by first- and
second-generation interferometers, including the astrophysical information that
will come from these observations. The review covers some 10 decades of
gravitational wave frequency, from the high-frequency normal modes of neutron
stars down to the lowest frequencies observable from space. The discussion of
sources includes recent developments regarding binary black holes, spinning
neutron stars, and the stochastic background.Comment: 29 pages, 2 figures, as submitted for special millenium issue of

Engineering Dynamics and Life Sciences
From Preface:
This is the fourteenth time when the conference “Dynamical Systems: Theory
and Applications” gathers a numerous group of outstanding scientists and engineers, who
deal with widely understood problems of theoretical and applied dynamics.
Organization of the conference would not have been possible without a great effort of
the staff of the Department of Automation, Biomechanics and Mechatronics. The patronage
over the conference has been taken by the Committee of Mechanics of the Polish Academy
of Sciences and Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Poland.
It is a great pleasure that our invitation has been accepted by recording in the history
of our conference number of people, including good colleagues and friends as well as a large
group of researchers and scientists, who decided to participate in the conference for the
first time. With proud and satisfaction we welcomed over 180 persons from 31 countries all
over the world. They decided to share the results of their research and many years
experiences in a discipline of dynamical systems by submitting many very interesting
papers.
This year, the DSTA Conference Proceedings were split into three volumes entitled
“Dynamical Systems” with respective subtitles: Vibration, Control and Stability of Dynamical
Systems; Mathematical and Numerical Aspects of Dynamical System Analysis and
Engineering Dynamics and Life Sciences. Additionally, there will be also published two
volumes of Springer Proceedings in Mathematics and Statistics entitled “Dynamical Systems
in Theoretical Perspective” and “Dynamical Systems in Applications”
International Conference on Mathematical Analysis and Applications in Science and Engineering – Book of Extended Abstracts
The present volume on Mathematical Analysis and Applications in Science and Engineering - Book of
Extended Abstracts of the ICMASC’2022 collects the extended abstracts of the talks presented at the
International Conference on Mathematical Analysis and Applications in Science and Engineering –
ICMA2SC'22 that took place at the beautiful city of Porto, Portugal, in June 27th-June 29th 2022 (3 days).
Its aim was to bring together researchers in every discipline of applied mathematics, science, engineering,
industry, and technology, to discuss the development of new mathematical models, theories, and
applications that contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge and practice. Authors proposed
research in topics including partial and ordinary differential equations, integer and fractional order
equations, linear algebra, numerical analysis, operations research, discrete mathematics, optimization,
control, probability, computational mathematics, amongst others.
The conference was designed to maximize the involvement of all participants and will present the state-of-
the-art research and the latest achievements.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
