Translation from Braille Music Mark-up Language to DAISYXML

    Get PDF
As result of the Contrapunctus European project the design of the Braille Music Mark-up as an XML representation of a music scores in Braille has been carried out. We propose a design of a prototype system for translating these kinds of files into spoken music encoded in DAISYXML. In this way any blind musician may be able to memorize any Braille score using a DAISY reader. Therefore the dependency of reading BMML files in front of a computer would be eliminated. This is a first work on feasibility which will be improved and managed by a working group

Design and User Satisfaction of Interactive Maps for Visually Impaired People

Multimodal interactive maps are a solution for presenting spatial information to visually impaired people. In this paper, we present an interactive multimodal map prototype that is based on a tactile paper map, a multi-touch screen and audio output. We first describe the different steps for designing an interactive map: drawing and printing the tactile paper map, choice of multi-touch technology, interaction technologies and the software architecture. Then we describe the method used to assess user satisfaction. We provide data showing that an interactive map - although based on a unique, elementary, double tap interaction - has been met with a high level of user satisfaction. Interestingly, satisfaction is independent of a user's age, previous visual experience or Braille experience. This prototype will be used as a platform to design advanced interactions for spatial learning

The aims of this research are: 1) to develop science Braille module for blind student at public/Islamic elementary school; 2) to validate science Braille module for blind student at public/Islamic elementary school based on teachers' assessment. The development of the module followed the 4-D model of the research based development, i.e. Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate. However, the present paper will only report the first three phases that have been conducted. The prototype of the science Braille module was reviewed by supervisor, subject expertise, and peer reviewers. The final prototype of module was reviewed by SLB teacher, elementary school teachers (2 teachers from inclusive school and 1 teacher from SLB) using the manual ideal criteria assessment. The result of this study shows that the prototype of the science Braille module was given a good score by the media expert and the teachers. This module has 7.13% as ideal percentage. Based on the result, the prototype of science Braille module can be used as learning science media, especially for blind students
