In our days, the success of a corporation hinges on its agility and ability to adapt to fast changing conditions. Proactive workers and an agile IT/IS infrastructure that can support them is a requirement for this success. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. The user’s network requirements may not be fully understood, which slows down relocation and reorganization. Also, if there is no grasp on the real requirements, the IT/IS infrastructure may not be efficiently used, with waste in some areas and deficiencies in others. Finally, enabling proactivity does not mean full unrestricted access, since this may leave the systems vulnerable to outsider and insider threats. The purpose of the work described on this thesis is to develop a system that can characterize user network behavior. We propose a modular system architecture to extract information from tagged network flows. The system process begins by creating user profiles from their network flows’ information. Then, similar profiles are automatically grouped into clusters, creating role profiles. Finally, the individual profiles are compared against the roles, and the ones that differ significantly are flagged as anomalies for further inspection. Considering this architecture, we propose a model to describe user and role network behavior. We also propose visualization methods to quickly inspect all the information contained in the model. The system and model were evaluated using a real dataset from a large telecommunications operator. The results confirm that the roles accurately map similar behavior. The anomaly results were also expected, considering the underlying population. With the knowledge that the system can extract from the raw data, the users network needs can be better fulfilled, the anomalous users flagged for inspection, giving an edge in agility for any company that uses it

Customer Behavior Analysis for Social Media

It is essential for a business organization to get the customer feedback in order to grow as a company. Business organizations are collecting customer feedback using various methods. But the question is ‘are they efficient and effective?' In the current context, there is more of a customer oriented market and all the business organizations are competing to achieve customer delight through their products and services. Social Media plays a huge role in one's life. Customers tend to reveal their true opinion about certain brands on social media rather than giving routine feedback to the producers or sellers. Because of this reason, it is identified that social media can be used as a tool to analyze customer behavior. If relevant data can be gathered from the customers' social media feeds and if these data are analyzed properly, a clear idea to the companies what customers really think about their brand can be provided

Background: Indonesia ranked the third highest country in the world in the prevalence of smokers in 2010. The prevalence of alcohol drinkers reached 4.6% in 2007. West Kalimantan ranked the third highest and the fifth highest province in Indonesia in the number of smokers and drinkers, respectively. This study aimed to analyze factors affecting the preventive behavior of alcohol consumption and smoking among students from West Kalimantan, Indonesia.Subjects and Method: This was an analytical observational study with cross sectional design, conducted in Yogyakarta. A total of 100 students of West Kalimantan were selected by simple random sampling. The data were collected by a set of questionnaire and analyzed by path analysis. Results: Positive attitude toward alcohol consumption (b=0.196; p=<0.001), positive subjective norms (b=0.650; p <0.001), strong perceived behavior control (b=0.296; p=<0.001), strong intention (b=1.755; p <0.001) had positive effect on alcohol consumption preventive behavior. Positive attitude toward smoking (b=0.381; p <0.001), positive subjective norms (b= 0.357; p< 0.001), strong perceived behavior control (b=0.252; p <0.001), and strong intention (b =1.122; p< 0.001) had positive effect on smoking prevention behavior. Conclusion: Theory of planned behavior can be used to predict preventive health behavior of a person, with respect to alcohol consumption and smoking. Attitude, subjective norm, perceive behavior control, and intention, each had either indirect or direct effect on alcohol consumption and smoking prevention behavior. Keywords: Theory of Planned Behavior, alcohol consumption, smoking, preventive behaviorCorrespondence: Yesi Vila Delpia. The demand for healthcare services for an increasing population of older adults is faced with the shortage of skilled caregivers and a constant increase in healthcare costs. In addition, the strong preference of the elderly to live independently has been driving much research on "ambient-assisted living" (AAL) systems to support aging-in-place. In this paper, we propose to employ a low-resolution image sensor network for behavior analysis of a home occupant. A network of 10 low-resolution cameras (30x30 pixels) is installed in a service flat of an elderly, based on which the user's mobility tracks are extracted using a maximum likelihood tracker. We propose a novel measure to find similar patterns of behavior between each pair of days from the user's detected positions, based on heatmaps and Earth mover's distance (EMD). Then, we use an exemplar-based approach to identify sleeping, eating, and sitting activities, and walking patterns of the elderly user for two weeks of real-life recordings. The proposed system achieves an overall accuracy of about 94%

SALSA: A Novel Dataset for Multimodal Group Behavior Analysis

Studying free-standing conversational groups (FCGs) in unstructured social settings (e.g., cocktail party ) is gratifying due to the wealth of information available at the group (mining social networks) and individual (recognizing native behavioral and personality traits) levels. However, analyzing social scenes involving FCGs is also highly challenging due to the difficulty in extracting behavioral cues such as target locations, their speaking activity and head/body pose due to crowdedness and presence of extreme occlusions. To this end, we propose SALSA, a novel dataset facilitating multimodal and Synergetic sociAL Scene Analysis, and make two main contributions to research on automated social interaction analysis: (1) SALSA records social interactions among 18 participants in a natural, indoor environment for over 60 minutes, under the poster presentation and cocktail party contexts presenting difficulties in the form of low-resolution images, lighting variations, numerous occlusions, reverberations and interfering sound sources; (2) To alleviate these problems we facilitate multimodal analysis by recording the social interplay using four static surveillance cameras and sociometric badges worn by each participant, comprising the microphone, accelerometer, bluetooth and infrared sensors. In addition to raw data, we also provide annotations concerning individuals' personality as well as their position, head, body orientation and F-formation information over the entire event duration. Through extensive experiments with state-of-the-art approaches, we show (a) the limitations of current methods and (b) how the recorded multiple cues synergetically aid automatic analysis of social interactions.
