    Artificial neural networks and physical modeling for determination of baseline consumption of CHP plants

    An effective modeling technique is proposed for determining baseline energy consumption in the industry. A CHP plant is considered in the study that was subjected to a retrofit, which consisted of the implementation of some energy-saving measures. This study aims to recreate the post-retrofit energy consumption and production of the system in case it would be operating in its past configuration (before retrofit) i.e., the current consumption and production in the event that no energy-saving measures had been implemented. Two different modeling methodologies are applied to the CHP plant: thermodynamic modeling and artificial neural networks (ANN). Satisfactory results are obtained with both modeling techniques. Acceptable accuracy levels of prediction are detected, confirming good capability of the models for predicting plant behavior and their suitability for baseline energy consumption determining purposes. High level of robustness is observed for ANN against uncertainty affecting measured values of variables used as input in the models. The study demonstrates ANN great potential for assessing baseline consumption in energyintensive industry. Application of ANN technique would also help to overcome the limited availability of on-shelf thermodynamic software for modeling all specific typologies of existing industrial processes

    Allowing traffic to grow to a level at which there is extensive and regular congestion is economically inefficient. Although the construction of additional roads can alleviate some of the effects of congestion, the benefits may be counterbalanced unless the growth in traffic volumes can be restrained. Therefore, another alternative is by implementing Transportation Demand Management (TDM), which means people still travel but at the same time the private car USAge is reduced. This paper presents the development of an expert system for sustainable transportation (E-SUTRA) through implementation of TDM. The overall result of 69% accuracy indicates the high possibility of the E-SUTRA system to be used as an advisory tool for sustainable transportation through TDM

    Patients with Malignant neoplasms of the bladder or severe anatomical and functional bladder abnormalities are the candidates for cystectomy and orthotopic urine diversion. The distal portion of the ileum is the most frequent anatomical organ, which is used for the formation of the urinary conduit. The formation of a urinary reservoir from the ileum that is unable to perform new functions, and mainly programmed to isolate enzymes, digest food and absorb nutrients, salts and minerals changes the energy exchange in the ileum wall under the influence of urine.The aim of the research is the examination of energy metabolism changes in the ileum wall during the formation of artificial bladder in experimental conditions conducted on mini-pigs. Experimental studies were performed on 21 female mini-pigs with an average age of 6 to 14 months. The duration of the experiment was 12 months. An imbalance of the ATP-ADP-AMP system was observed in the transplant tissue of the graft in different postoperative periods. Changes in the level of ATP are characteristics of the development of tissue ischemia.Results. The values of the adenosine nucleotides sum (the energy potential indicative of the respiration rate of mitochondria) and the phosphorylation index were lower at different times of observation in the transplant tissue. The energy charge value was lower to a lesser extent relative to the control.Conclusion. The revealed changes in the level of adenosine nucleotides confirm the severity of the disturbances of the energy homeostasis in the transplant tissue at all stages of the observation
