Documental Survey of Project Prim’art - Portugal Rediscovering Mural Art: Historical and Scientific Study Of Archiepiscopal Évora

    Get PDF
The importance of documentary research for art history studies in Cultural Heritage is unquestionable to ascertain the date of a masterpiece, confirmation of authorship and acknowledgement or dismissal of its historical theories. Most of the research pertaining to paintings and painters has been conducted by art historians, but what kind of novel information can be obtained from the historians´ point of view? This was the main goal of the survey conducted into the lives of painters who have worked over 400 years ago in the town of Évora during the so-called “golden age” of mural paintings in Southern Portugal and described in this paper. Furthermore, this paper presents a brief overview of the methodology used and shows that it is possible to reconcile the computer language of today with the language of notaries and witnesses of the “De genere” inquiry process of the 16th century

An Empirical Study at Évora’s University about Representations of “Quality Teaching” within an Intercultural Context

In this paper the authors tried to compare the representations of «teaching quality» between African portuguese speakers and portuguese native students’ throughout an attempt of intercultural education course. The students had answered to a questionnaire made specially for that propose and although the pilot character of the study, the analysis of the result seems to show that, in opposite to the expected, the concept of «teaching quality» does not present significative differences between them

Ponencia presentada a Session 9: Forma urbana y relaciones entre historia y proyecto: el medio ambiente como patrimonio / Urban form and relationships between design and history: environmental heritage, arquitecture and planningSão Paulo between the late 19th century and early 20th was one of the main destinations of immigrants, specially because of the needs of supplying a labor for coffee, something that didn't mean that the immigration was only restricted to rural areas. The city has hosted both migrants dissatisfied with their contracts on farms, as those who directly saw it as a final destination, as the case of Syrian-Lebanese. The article analyzes the presence of this colony and focus on the trajectory of one of his representatives, Rizkallah Jorge Tahan, this research intends to reconstruct the trajectory of this immigrant and analyze his interventions in the urban space of São Paulo

UID/EAT/00693/2013A ‘paper type’ in a music manuscript is defined mainly by its watermark designs and other features resulting from the papermaking process, such as chain-lines. Identifying the paper types can assist when attempting to establish a manuscript’s collation and how it was put together. At a later stage in research, this information, together with other codicological data, can be amassed from several manuscripts, potentially enabling more precise datings than were possible simply from studying the contents and written information on manuscripts. This presentation will set out my research on the paper types in Braga, Arquivo Distrital, MS 964, a complex manuscript of over 250 folios with many paper types, which contains an important repertory of keyboard music and sacred vocal music for voice and continuo. Its complexity presents a number of challenges and has discouraged analysis of the manuscript as a whole; a complete inventory of the manuscript’s content has yet to be published. An analysis of the paper types in this source shows how its different parts relate to one another, and is a help when attempting to establish when they might have been copied and at what point the collection was assembled.publishersversionpublishe

Nacional.

Convergence of the Crank-Nicolson-Galerkin finite element method for a class of nonlocal parabolic systems with moving boundaries

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to establish the convergence and error bounds to the fully discrete solution for a class of nonlinear systems of reaction-diffusion nonlocal type with moving boundaries, using a linearized Crank-Nicolson-Galerkin finite element method with polynomial approximations of any degree. A coordinate transformation which fixes the boundaries is used. Some numerical tests to compare our Matlab code with some existing moving finite elements methods are investigated

On a nonlocal degenerate parabolic problem

    Get PDF
Conditions for the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions for a class of nonlinear nonlocal degenerate parabolic equations are established. The asymptotic behaviour of the solutions as time tends to infinity are also studied. In particular, the finite time extinction and polynomial decay properties are proved
