VECTORS: Video communication through opportunistic relays and scalable video coding
Crowd-sourced video distribution is frequently of interest in the local
vicinity. In this paper, we propose a novel design to transfer such content
over opportunistic networks with adaptive quality encoding to achieve
reasonable delay bounds. The video segments are transmitted between source and
destination in a delay tolerant manner using the Nearby Connections Android
library. This implementation can be applied to multiple domains, including farm
monitoring, wildlife, and environmental tracking, disaster response scenarios,
etc. In this work, we present the design of an opportunistic contact based
system, and we discuss basic results for the trial runs within our institute.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures, and under 3000 words for submission to the

QoS performance analysis of bit rate video streaming in next generation networks using TCP, UDP and a TCP+UDP hybrid
The growth in users streaming videos on the Internet has led to increased demand
for improved video quality and reception. In next generation networks (NGNs), such
as 3G and 4G LTE, quality of service (QoS) implementation is one of the ways in
which good video quality and good video reception can be achieved. QoS mainly
involves following an industry-wide set of standard metrics and mechanisms to
achieve high-quality network performance in respect of video streaming. Adopting
routing and communication protocols is one way QoS is implemented in NGNs.
This article describes QoS of bit rate video streaming, and QoS performance
analysis of video streaming, in relation to the main network transport protocols,
namely transmission control protocol (TCP) and user datagram protocol (UDP). A
simulation test bed was set up using OPNET modeller 14.5. In this setup, a network
topology was created and duplicated three times, in order to configure two simulation
scenarios (each using the distinct protocols), and a third simulation scenario using
both protocols in hybrid form. The findings in the simulations indicated that, when
a network is configured with both TCP and UDP protocols in video streaming,
there is a positive change in the degree of performance in terms of the QoS of videostreaming
applications, unlike when the protocols are used independently.CA2016www.wits.ac.za/linkcentre/aji
DyPS: Dynamic Processor Switching for Energy-Aware Video Decoding on Multi-core SoCs
In addition to General Purpose Processors (GPP), Multicore SoCs equipping
modern mobile devices contain specialized Digital Signal Processor designed
with the aim to provide better performance and low energy consumption
properties. However, the experimental measurements we have achieved revealed
that system overhead, in case of DSP video decoding, causes drastic
performances drop and energy efficiency as compared to the GPP decoding. This
paper describes DyPS, a new approach for energy-aware processor switching (GPP
or DSP) according to the video quality . We show the pertinence of our solution
in the context of adaptive video decoding and describe an implementation on an
embedded Linux operating system with the help of the GStreamer framework. A
simple case study showed that DyPS achieves 30% energy saving while sustaining
the decoding performanc
Security and blockchain convergence with internet of multimedia things : current trends, research challenges and future directions
The Internet of Multimedia Things (IoMT) orchestration enables the integration of systems, software, cloud, and smart sensors into a single platform. The IoMT deals with scalar as well as multimedia data. In these networks, sensor-embedded devices and their data face numerous challenges when it comes to security. In this paper, a comprehensive review of the existing literature for IoMT is presented in the context of security and blockchain. The latest literature on all three aspects of security, i.e., authentication, privacy, and trust is provided to explore the challenges experienced by multimedia data. The convergence of blockchain and IoMT along with multimedia-enabled blockchain platforms are discussed for emerging applications. To highlight the significance of this survey, large-scale commercial projects focused on security and blockchain for multimedia applications are reviewed. The shortcomings of these projects are explored and suggestions for further improvement are provided. Based on the aforementioned discussion, we present our own case study for healthcare industry: a theoretical framework having security and blockchain as key enablers. The case study reflects the importance of security and blockchain in multimedia applications of healthcare sector. Finally, we discuss the convergence of emerging technologies with security, blockchain and IoMT to visualize the future of tomorrow's applications. © 2020 Elsevier Lt

4kUHD H264 Wireless Live Video Streaming Using CUDA
Ultrahigh definition video streaming has been explored in recent years. Most recently the possibility of 4kUHD video streaming over wireless 802.11n was presented, using preencoded video. Live encoding for streaming using x264 has proven to be very slow. The use of parallel encoding has been explored to speed up the process using CUDA. However there hasnot been a parallel implementation for video streaming. We therefore present for the first time a novel implementation of 4kUHD live encoding for streaming over a wireless network at low bitrate indoors, using CUDA for parallel H264 encoding. Our experimental results are used to verify our claim.</jats:p
