This article contains the results of the study conducted in Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, in 2010. This study aims at revealing and analyzing the form, function, meaning and value of the kontala using intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. The kontala was processed in such a way that it became a particular material so that its aesthetic effects could be obtained. The intrinsic approach was used to observe the structural aspect. The aspects of the study range from style, image, metaphor, symbol, and myth. The extrinsic approach was used to discuss the setting and environment. In addition to the structural theory, the functional theory was also used in this study. The functional theory of a text covers all the natures which collectively refer to or have the main and additional functions. Besides, the pragmatic approach was also used in this study. Descriptive analytic method, which could reveal and analyze the content, form, function, meaning and value of the kantola was employed. The results of the study show that the kantola, which is in the form of several poems, contain (a) satire, (b) criticism, (c) romantic love, (d) advices, (f) suggestion, (g) invitation with family and unity as the themes. The kantola functions to amuse, unify, pacify sorrow for its fans. The values contained are (a) sportiveness, (b) skill, (c) ethics and morality, (d) togetherness, (e) education, (f) religiosity, (g) patience, (h) intelligence (intellectual intelligence, emotional intelligence, social intelligence, and spiritual intelligence). Based on the values contained, the kantola needs to be learned, developed and performed again in every public party as the real steps to preserve it in daily life with high creativity; its form and performance are modified and adapted

[Purpose] To study the feasibility of establishing the status of artificial intelligence and outlining its characteristics, as well as to identify problems associated with the introduction of the subject of legal relations “electronic person”. [Methodology] The main method, used in this article, was analysis of the approaches to understanding the essence of artificial intelligence and concepts of legal personality of the electronic person. [Findings] Based on the analysis of the approaches to understanding the essence of artificial intelligence and concepts of legal personality of the electronic person, the conclusion is that the legal personality of the electronic person depends on the presence of features that characterize it as a subject of law: autonomy (separation) and personalization. [Practical Implications] The practical significance lies in the formation of proposals for improving approaches to establishing the essence of artificial intelligence and determining the legal status of the electronic person.[Purpose] To study the feasibility of establishing the status of artificial intelligence and outlining its characteristics, as well as to identify problems associated with the introduction of the subject of legal relations “electronic person”. Discovery and composition of web services using artificial intelligence planning and web service modeling ontology

In today’s Web environment, Web services are the preferred standards-based way to realize Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) computing. A problem that has become one of the recent critical issues is automated discovery and composition of Semantic Web services. A number of approaches have been presented to solve the problem. However, most of these approaches only consider discovery or composition of Web services but not both. In this study, an effective approach called AIMO, based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) planning, Web Service Modeling Ontology (WSMO), and Semantic Web has been proposed to tackle the problem. The main purpose of this study is to investigate and develop a novel approach for automated Web service discovery and composition. In this case, a comparative evaluation of state-of-the-art approaches for Web service composition approaches has been done and the strengths and weaknesses of those approaches have been discussed. Moreover a translator for interaction between WSMO and AI-planning based on Description Logics has been proposed. In addition, some parts of AIMO architecture have been tested on a practical case study, and the results based on the experimental validation demonstrate that AIMO provides an effective and applicable solution. AIMO continues to support loose coupling paradigm of SOA by separating the discovery from the composition of Web services

Multicomponent Behavioral Program for Achieving Weight Loss in Adult Mentally Retarded Persons

    Get PDF
Only minimal attention has been directed towards demonstrating the effectiveness of behavioral approaches to weight control with mentally retarded individuals (Foreyt & Parks, 1975; Foxx, 1972; Staugatis, 1978). The paucity of research in this area is unfortunate because the association between intelligence and obesity is high and negative (Krege, Zelina, Juhas & Garbara, 1947). The purpose of the present study was to assess whether a multicomponent behavioral weight reduction treatment program could produce and maintain weight loss overweight formerly institutionalized adult retarded individuals residing in a community-living facility

Artificial intelligence in cancer target identification and drug discovery

    Get PDF
Artificial intelligence is an advanced method to identify novel anticancer targets and discover novel drugs from biology networks because the networks can effectively preserve and quantify the interaction between components of cell systems underlying human diseases such as cancer. Here, we review and discuss how to employ artificial intelligence approaches to identify novel anticancer targets and discover drugs. First, we describe the scope of artificial intelligence biology analysis for novel anticancer target investigations. Second, we review and discuss the basic principles and theory of commonly used network-based and machine learning-based artificial intelligence algorithms. Finally, we showcase the applications of artificial intelligence approaches in cancer target identification and drug discovery. Taken together, the artificial intelligence models have provided us with a quantitative framework to study the relationship between network characteristics and cancer, thereby leading to the identification of potential anticancer targets and the discovery of novel drug candidates

    Cognition as Embodied Morphological Computation

Cognitive science is considered to be the study of mind (consciousness and thought) and intelligence in humans. Under such definition variety of unsolved/unsolvable problems appear. This article argues for a broad understanding of cognition based on empirical results from i.a. natural sciences, self-organization, artificial intelligence and artificial life, network science and neuroscience, that apart from the high level mental activities in humans, includes sub-symbolic and sub-conscious processes, such as emotions, recognizes cognition in other living beings as well as extended and distributed/social cognition. The new idea of cognition as complex multiscale phenomenon evolved in living organisms based on bodily structures that process information, linking cognitivists and EEEE (embodied, embedded, enactive, extended) cognition approaches with the idea of morphological computation (info-computational self-organisation) in cognizing agents, emerging in evolution through interactions of a (living/cognizing) agent with the environment

Learning environments in health and medical studies: the mediating role of emotional intelligence

The conventional approach to sustainability is being extended through approaches such as the psychology of sustainability and sustainable development. Under such approaches, the analysis of sustainability also involves understanding improvements in people's quality of life in environments such as education and learning. Based on this theoretical approach, this study explored the relationships between anxiety, emotional intelligence, and mechanisms for coping with stressful situations. The mediating role of emotional intelligence in the relationship between anxiety and coping mechanisms was also assessed. The anxiety, emotional intelligence, and coping variables were measured using standardized tests administered to students. This cross-sectional study was based on self-reports by health students at universities in Valencia (Spain). The study conformed to the ethical standards established by the Declaration of Helsinki. In total, 434 students participated in the study. The students were aged between 17 and 54 years (M = 21; SD = 0.320). From the perspective of the psychology of sustainability, the results indicate that avoidance coping strategies are positively related to anxiety and are negatively related to emotional intelligence. However, the results also show that approach coping strategies are positively related to emotional intelligence. In addition, the analysis shows the mediating role of emotional intelligence in the relationship between anxiety and coping. This study shows the need to encourage the sustainable development of emotional intelligence among health professionals and to consider this sustainable development when designing education programs for health-related fields
