    The Use of Translation Tool in Efl Learning: Do Machine Translation Give Positive Impact in Language Learning?

    Translation tools are commonly used for translating a text written in one language (source language) into another language (target language). They are used to help translators in translating big numbers of translation works in effective time. There are three types of translation tools being studied in the article entitled Machine Translation Tools: Tools of the Translator's Trade written by Peter Katsberg published in 2012. They are Fully Automated Machine Translation (or FAMT), Human Aided Machine Translation (or HAMT) and Machine Aided Human Translation (or MAHT). Katsberg analyzed how each translation tool works, the naturality and approriateness of its translation and the compatibility of using it. In this digital era, translation tools are not only popular among translators but also among EFL learners. Beginning with the use of portable dictionary such as Alfalink and expanding to the more sopisticated translation tool such as Google Translate. Some novice learners usually use this translation tools in doing their task without recorrecting the translation result. This happens perhaps because they do not have enough background knowledge to evaluate the translation result. Thus, it will be better when the learners have good mastery in basic English and train them to be aware in evaluating the result from translation tools. On the other words, Human Aided Machine Translation may be the wise choice to do translation task effectively and efficiently particularly in managing the time

    Field Composition and Development Trend of Research Hotspots of Translation Technology in China—Based on Co-word Visualization Analysis of Relevant Academic Journals from CNKI Published from 1999 to 2017

    With the rapid development of computer technology and deep integration of disciplines, translation technology has gradually become an important research direction and a new focus of translation studies. In order to reveal the present situation of research on translation technology, we take the academic journals on translation technology from CNKI published between 1999 and 2017 as our data sample for analysis. The results show that the main research hotspots of translation technology cover four areas, i.e. computer-aided translation, human-computer interaction, translation technology teaching and talent training, as well as terminologies of the field. Through analysis of the current situation and existing problems in the above mentioned areas, some thoughts and prospects are put forward to provide guidance and illumination to scholars in this research field and promote further and deeper studies into the subject

    With the development of computer and the Internet, traditional teaching methods have been greatly challenged, so does ESP teaching. In order to cope with the new trend and the changes happened in classroom teaching and learning, teachers should turn their eyes on more effective methods especially the ones integrated with computer and the Internet technology. English for Specific purposes (ESP) has a long tradition, as a movement designed to respond to non-English majors’ needs both for academic and cross cultural communication purpose in specific scientific fields and professional settings. The purpose of ESP teaching may lay both in explaining basic language knowledge used in a particular subject and promoting the abilities to use English as a tool or a way to learn the special subject. How to teach ESP and are there any new methods can be applied into classroom teaching are remain the hot topic which have been discussed recently. Nowadays, in this information age, many scholars devote themselves to the exploration of computer aided teaching in particular subjects, and computer aided translation is of great importance in ESP teaching. It is a subject involves the basic concepts of computer-aided translation technology, helps students learn to use a variety of computer-aided translation tools, enhances their ability to engage in various kinds of language service in such a technical environment. This study explores the method of applying basic principles of computer aided translation in ESP teaching, including using searching engine or an appropriate electronic dictionary to translate a term, using proper software to construct a terminology database, using corpus to refine an academic writing and etc.. It can not only combine modern technology with traditional teaching but can also enhance the ESP learners’ ability in reading and translating, and to make them increasingly autonomous

    Annotation graphs and annotation servers offer infrastructure to support the analysis of human language resources in the form of time-series data such as text, audio and video. This paper outlines areas of common need among empirical linguists and computational linguists.     Developing Translation Competence of Undergraduate Translation Students under Computer-aided Translation Technology

    College students who major in translation often face psychological and physiological challenges that affect their learning experience. They have a particular interest in learning translation, but their level is not high; their enthusiasm for translation learning is not high, and they lack confidence. This paper divided them into control and experimental groups comprising 50 students. Before introducing computer-aided translation (CAT), students in both groups were given the same basic training, including language, translation theory, and professional knowledge, thus ensuring that both groups had similar essential competencies. The experimental group introduced CAT and provided them with the necessary training and guidance to ensure their complete understanding and familiarity with CAT technology. Regular translation tests were conducted on two groups of students, mainly examining their performance in vocabulary translation, grammar translation, and discourse cohesion. Meanwhile, feedback and discussion with the experimental group of students can help them improve the quality of their translations. Before the introduction of CAT technology, 25% of vocabulary omissions occurred, while after the introduction of CAT technology, 7% of vocabulary omissions occurred.
