    The survey on Near Field Communication

    PubMed ID: 26057043Near Field Communication (NFC) is an emerging short-range wireless communication technology that offers great and varied promise in services such as payment, ticketing, gaming, crowd sourcing, voting, navigation, and many others. NFC technology enables the integration of services from a wide range of applications into one single smartphone. NFC technology has emerged recently, and consequently not much academic data are available yet, although the number of academic research studies carried out in the past two years has already surpassed the total number of the prior works combined. This paper presents the concept of NFC technology in a holistic approach from different perspectives, including hardware improvement and optimization, communication essentials and standards, applications, secure elements, privacy and security, usability analysis, and ecosystem and business issues. Further research opportunities in terms of the academic and business points of view are also explored and discussed at the end of each section. This comprehensive survey will be a valuable guide for researchers and academicians, as well as for business in the NFC technology and ecosystem.Publisher's Versio

    Concepts for an intuitive user interface for DLNA using NFC technology

    Consumption of digital media is dramatically increased by the development of conventional connectivity technologies and the advent of home entertainment appliances. The evolution of networking technology, hardware development and advanced services leads to an increased sophistication of device manipulation and long learning curves for average users. DLNA standardizes the interoperablity between media devices over a framework. With the help of personal handheld devices and smart phones, a ubiquitous media network is formed at home or on the road. NFC is a radio technology bridging physical and digital world, which is now widely deployed in a varied number of application scenarios to ease Human-Computer Interaction. This master thesis proposes a system architecture based on the confluence of DLNA architecture and NFC technology to facilitate simple, intuitive and impromptu interaction with media devices. This NFC-enabled DLNA Communication system architecture defines a communication model which delivers the vision of NFC as the enabler of DLNA control and communication, a network model, a set of diverse device functional components, a set of dedicated devices and baseline principles of system architecture. Based on the generic system architecture, a research is explored on A/V and image media sharing, UI retrieval, media uploading/downloading and print document application fields. Six use cases are proposed, they share the properties and principles defined in the system architecture and additionally they maintain their own use case specific features and their proprietary NFC data formats. Among them two use cases are explained in more detail. One use case, A/V Handover, delivers a consistent "tap and exchange" scenario. The other use case, Control Handover, grants users an instantaneous access to the control UI. A prototype implementation between smart devices or home appliances are presented showcasing an instantaneous, rapid and spontaneous media sharing and management application. Following the design paradigm presented in this thesis, more use cases in specific application fields are easily to be implemented

    TCC(graduação) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Campus Araranguá, Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação.Atualmente as tecnologias de redes sem fio proporcionam ao cenário da Internet das Coisas um ambiente favorável em que usuários, além de consumirem informações, também são os principais responsáveis para a geração de novos conteúdos, uma vez que com a utilização de sensores inteligentes estas interações ocorrem de maneira despercebida. Desta forma, os avanços da tecnologia de sensores sem fio têm provocado um aumento acelerado no volume de informações disponíveis e a consolidação do conceito de Computação Ubíqua. A partir disto, este trabalho reside na proposição de um sistema de recomendação utilizando - se da tecnologia de sensores sem fio para identificar possíveis interesses de usuários por itens em ambientes físicos, através das abordagens de filtragem colaborativa e baseada em conteúdo. Para permitir a avaliação da proposta deste trabalho foi desenvolvido um protótipo, onde o mesmo é aplicado em alguns cenários de uso viabilizando a coleta de dados de modo que estes dados possam ser utilizados em um processo de recomendação. Através da avaliação das informações processadas e geradas com a utilização do protótipo elaborado para este trabalho é possível sugerir itens de interesse aos usuários. Por fim, pode - se concluir que os resultados obtidos no cenário de identificação de interesse dos usuários são consistentes e permitem prover importantes subsídios para guiar usuários em suas escolhas futuras.Nowadays wireless technologies provide to the Internet of Things a favorable environment in which users, in addition to consuming information, are also the main responsible for the generation of new content, since the use of intelligent sensors make such interactions more natural. In this way, advances in wireless sensor technology have accelerated the volume of information available, as well as, the consolidation of the concept of Ubiquitous Computing. From this, this work lies in the proposition of a recommendation system using wireless sensor technology to identify possible user interests for items in physical environments through collaborative filtering and content - based approaches. In order to allow the evaluation of the current work we developed a prototype and applied it in some scenarios of use, making data collection possible aiming to use it in a recommendation process. Through the evaluation of the processed and generated information with the use of the prototype developed in this work, it is possible to suggest items according users interest. Finally, it can be concluded that the results obtained in the scenario of the identification of interest from users are consistent and allow to provide important subsidies to guide users in their future choices

    Is Fragmentation a Threat to the Success of the Internet of Things?

    The current revolution in collaborating distributed things is seen as the first phase of IoT to develop various services. Such collaboration is threatened by the fragmentation found in the industry nowadays as it brings challenges stemming from the difficulty to integrate diverse technologies in system. Diverse networking technologies induce interoperability issues, hence, limiting the possibility of reusing the data to develop new services.     La projection d'usage des TICs : la composition de fictions axiomatiques au service de la recherche technologique

    Innovation is today a major and strategic asset for organisations that compete in a hypercompetitive world (D'Avenir & Gunther, 1994). They are trying to face these new challenges, by using a diversity of “expert systems” typical of our « advanced modernity » (Giddens, 1990). Amongst those, boosting R&D activities is major inputs that demand the use of different expertises. Speculative researches for innovation are one of them. They take place in the “Fuzzy Front End” of innovation, a place where the construction of the social reality of invention is made : its usage, or to be more precise, its projection. Our thesis examines these knowledge-producing technologies and tries to make understable the policies at work, the performance of embedded collectives on the innovation itself, and on themselves, and the arrangements made during this process. Our work in the Grenoble industrial area and collaboration with the CEA-LETI helped us to propose an understanding of these projections as compositions of axiomatic fictions for technological research. Analysing the concept of usage, we highlight its careers and the mutation of associated practices. Interrogating one form of projection, the scenario, we show the links that lie between fiction and perfomativity. By leaning on the project mutating components, we demonstrate the axiomatic character of the projection, understood as a form of answer made to a social demand that comes from different places, and whose necessity of actionnable knowledge is solved by composing with moving data.L'« hypercompétitivité » (D'Avenir & Gunther, 1994) qui caractérise notre environnement économique contemporain fait de l'innovation une préoccupation stratégique pour les organisations. Celles-ci tentent de répondre à cette injonction par le recours à une multitude de « systèmes experts », caractéristique de la « modernité avancée » (Giddens, 1990). Parmi ceux-ci, la stimulation des activités de R&D est reconnue comme une contribution majeure qui nécessite l'utilisation croissante de champs d'expertises variés. C'est dans ce contexte que les sciences sociales sont mobilisées comme forme d'expertise contributives des « recherches spéculatives pour l'innovation » (Stewart & Claeys, 2009). Ces recherches interviennent en amont de processus d'innovation, en un lieu nommé « Fuzzy Front End » (Smith & Reinertsen, 1995), lieu dans lequel se forge la construction de la réalité sociale de l'invention : son usage ou plutôt sa projection. Notre thèse s'interroge sur ces technologies de production de connaissances que sont les projections d'usage et ambitionne de rendre intelligibles les politiques qu'elles mettent en oeuvre, la performance des collectifs mobilisés sur les recherches et sur eux-mêmes ainsi que les arrangements déployés par les acteurs durant ces processus. Notre immersion dans le tissu industriel grenoblois, et en particulier dans l'environnement du CEA-LETI, nous a permis de proposer une lecture des projections d'usage comme des compositions de fictions axiomatiques au service de la recherche technologique. En scrutant le concept d'usage, nous mettons en lumière les carrières empruntées par celui-ci et les mutations des pratiques associées. En interrogeant l'une des formes de la projection d'usage, le scénario, nous mettons en évidence les liens entre performativité et recours à la fiction. En interrogeant les mutations des composantes du projet, nous démontrons le caractère axiomatique des projections, en tant que forme de réponse à une demande sociale qui émane de plusieurs endroits et dont l'exigence de production de savoirs actionnables nécessite de composer avec des données en mouvement

    Unmanned Aerial Vehicle for Internet of Everything: Opportunities and Challenges

    The recent advances in information and communication technology (ICT) have further extended Internet of Things (IoT) from the sole "things" aspect to the omnipotent role of "intelligent connection of things". Meanwhile, the concept of internet of everything (IoE) is presented as such an omnipotent extension of IoT. However, the IoE realization meets critical challenges including the restricted network coverage and the limited resource of existing network technologies. Recently, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have attracted significant attentions attributed to their high mobility, low cost, and flexible deployment. Thus, UAVs may potentially overcome the challenges of IoE. This article presents a comprehensive survey on opportunities and challenges of UAV-enabled IoE. We first present three critical expectations of IoE: 1) scalability requiring a scalable network architecture with ubiquitous coverage, 2) intelligence requiring a global computing plane enabling intelligent things, 3) diversity requiring provisions of diverse applications. Thereafter, we review the enabling technologies to achieve these expectations and discuss four intrinsic constraints of IoE (i.e., coverage constraint, battery constraint, computing constraint, and security issues). We then present an overview of UAVs. We next discuss the opportunities brought by UAV to IoE. Additionally, we introduce a UAV-enabled IoE (Ue-IoE) solution by exploiting UAVs's mobility, in which we show that Ue-IoE can greatly enhance the scalability, intelligence and diversity of IoE.
