    A new two-scroll chaotic system with two nonlinearities: dynamical analysis and circuit simulation

    Chaos theory has several applications in science and engineering. In this work, we announce a new two-scroll chaotic system with two nonlinearities. The dynamical properties of the system such as dissipativity, equilibrium points, Lyapunov exponents, Kaplan-Yorke dimension and bifurcation diagram are explored in detail. The presence of coexisting chaotic attractors, coexisting chaotic and periodic attractors in the system is also investigated. In addition, the offset boosting of a variable in the new chaotic system is achieved by adding a single controlled constant. It is shown that the new chaotic system has rotation symmetry about the z-axis. An electronic circuit simulation of the new two-scroll chaotic system is built using Multisim to check the feasibility of the theoretical model.

    A novel 4 dimensional hyperchaotic system with its control, Synchronization and Implementation

    This paper presents a new hyperchaotic system which shows some interesting features, the system is 4-dimensional with 4 nonlinearities. An extensive numerical analysis has showed that the system has some interesting features and strange behaviors. The numerical analysis includes studying the effect of system parameters and initial conditions. Some of the important properties of the system with parameter set, in which the system is hyperchaotic, such as Lyapunov exponents and Lyapunov dimension, dissipation and symmetry are found and discussed. In the next part of our work, a tracking controller for the proposed system is designed and then a synchronization control system for two identical systems is designed. The design procedure uses combination of a simple synergetic control with adaptive updating laws to identify the unknown parameters derived basing on Lyapunov theorem. Hardware implementation based on microcontroller unit (MCU) board is proposed and tested and used to experimentally validate the designed control and synchronization systems. As an application, the designed synchronization system is used as a secure analogue communication system. Using MATLAB, Simulation study for the control and synchronization systems is presented. The simulation and experimental study have been showed excellent results

    The synchronization of neutral chaotic systems with disturbance, uncertainty, unknown parameters, and unknown delays is studied in this article. Initially, the neutral chaotic system is introduced using the Lyapunov exponent and then the adaptive-robust controller is designed using the Lyapunov stability theory and the Lipschitz condition. The update laws for the estimation of disturbance and uncertainty bounds, as well as unknown parameters and delays, are determined such that the chaotic master and slave systems are synchronized in a robust manner. In addition, Lyapunov stability guarantees that the proposed controller will synchronize neutral chaotic systems in the presence of disturbance and uncertainty. In order to assess the proposed adaptive-robust controller, the synchronization of two parallel chaotic systems, jerk and Genesio–Tesi, with bounded nonlinear uncertainty, external disturbances, and unknown constant time delays is simulated. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed controller provides the best performance for robust synchronization of neutral chaotic systems

    Pain prediction from ECG in vascular surgery

    Varicose vein surgeries are routine outpatient procedures, which are often performed under local anaesthesia. The use of local anaesthesia both minimises the risk to patients and is cost effective, however, a number of patients still experience pain during surgery. Surgical teams must therefore decide to administer either a general or local anaesthetic based on their subjective qualitative assessment of patient anxiety and sensitivity to pain, without any means to objectively validate their decision. To this end, we develop a 3-D polynomial surface fit, of physiological metrics and numerical pain ratings from patients, in order to model the link between the modulation of cardiovascular responses and pain in varicose vein surgeries. Spectral and structural complexity features found in heart rate variability signals, recorded immediately prior to 17 varicose vein surgeries, are used as pain metrics. The so obtained pain prediction model is validated through a leave-one-out validation, and achieved a Kappa coefficient of 0.72 (substantial agreement) and an area below a receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.97 (almost perfect accuracy). This proof-of-concept study conclusively demonstrates the feasibility of the accurate classification of pain sensitivity, and introduces a mathematical model to aid clinicians in the objective administration of the safest and most cost-effective anaesthetic to individual patients
