An Empirical Investigation of Outsourcing Implementation in the Indonesian Manufacturing Industry

This study aims to identify regulations and analyze the determinants of outsourcing implementation in the Indonesian manufacturing industry using an analyctic hierarchy process (AHP). We examines both the Indonesian Labor Law–Act No. 13/2003 and the Regulation of Minister of Manpower and Transmigration No. 19/2012 on Conditions for Outsourcing the Implementation of Work to Other Companies. The results suggest that business efficiency, human resource development plan, types of outsourcing, wage level and worker incentive, recruitment and training cost, skilled worker and productivity, recruitment process, and government regulation are the priority factors to implement outsourcing in Indonesian manufacturing industries

An Empirical Investigation for Understanding

An empirical investigation of telephony impact on business performance and regional development: evidence from small businesses in Nigeria.

This thesis reports on a study conducted to investigate the nature of the relationship between increased access and use of telephony, small business performance and regional development in a developing country context. This study presents detailed evidence drawn from a sample of 198 small businesses in Nigeria. The research conceptualises and empirically tests a research model which incorporates three theories in order to connect and explain how the use of telephony by small businesses enhances business performance and contributes to regional development. This is based on the existing literature of small business development; telecommunications (increased access and use of telephony) by small business; and regional development. The research data was gathered through a questionnaire of owner-managers of small businesses. This data was supplemented by the use of photographs. The data generated was analysed using Logistic Regression techniques with the aid of SPSS V.17 statistical package. In addition, the study used Visual Data Analysis and Interviews to corroborate the outcomes of the statistical analyses. The regression results suggest that there is a statistically significant and positive relationship between the impact of using telephony in business processes and enhanced business performance. In particular, it was identified that the extent of the influence of using telephony in the acquisition of new customers; the extent of the influence of using telephony to reduce the time it takes to make important business decisions; and the extent of the influence of using telephony in acquiring better market prices are critical determinants that explains enhanced competitive advantage of small businesses. In addition, the extent of the influence of using telephony in the acquisition of new customers, and the extent of the influence of using telephony to reduce the time it takes to make important business decisions are critical determinants that explains enhanced profitability of small businesses. This evidence is corroborated by the analysis of the visual data and textual description of the owner-managers interviewed who noted that the influence of using telephony have enhanced their business performance. Furthermore, the regression results suggest there is a statistically significant and positive relationship between the growth outcomes of increased access and use of telephony by small businesses and regional development of the business location. In particular, the extent of influence of use of telephony by small businesses to create new jobs, the extent of influence of use of telephony by small businesses on improved business performance, and the extent of influence of use of telephony by small businesses on significant business growth are critical determinants that explains regional development of the small business location. Finally, given the important role small businesses play in developing countries, such as Nigeria, this study help provides a clearer explanation on the nature of the relationship between increased access and use of telephony, small business performance and regional development that could be used to improve the growth of entrepreneurial activities of small businesses which are precursors of economic growth as well as improve infrastructural services such as telecommunications that are essential for regional development

An Investigation of Price Movements During the Announcement of Acquisition News: the Case of Jakarta Stock Exchange

Paper ini ingin melihat siapa yang berada di Balik pergerekan harga selama periode pengumuman merjer dan akuisisi di Bursa Efek Jakarta. Data menunjukkan bahwa harga meningkat cukup tajam selama periode pengumuman. Penelitian ingin membandingkan apakah investor asing atau domestik yang mendorong pergerakan harga tersebut. Disamping itu, penelitian ini ingin melihat apakah pergerekan harga terkonsentrasi pada volume perdagangan (trade size) yang kecil atau tidak dan apakah terkonsentrasi pada investor domestik yang menggunakan volume perdagangan yang kecil. Hasil analisis memperlihatkan bukti yang cukup kuat yang menunjukkan bahwa investor domestik mendorong pergerakan harga tersebut. Untuk hipotesis kedua dan ketiga, tidak ditemukan bukti yang cukup kuat. Pergerakan harga oleh investor domestik tersebut menunjukkan superioritas informasi yang dimiliki oleh investor domestik, yang berarti ada asimetri informasi di Bursa Efek Jakarta

A pilot investigation of Information Extraction in the semantic annotation of archaeological reports

The paper discusses a prototype investigation of semantic annotation, a form of metadata assigning conceptual entities to textual instances; in the case of archaeological grey literature. The use of Information Extraction (IE), a Natural Language Processing (NLP) technique, is central to the annotation process while the use of Knowledge Organization System (KOS) is explored for the association of semantic annotation with both ontological and terminological references. The annotation process follows a rule-based information extraction approach using the GATE NLP toolkit, together with the CIDOC CRM ontology, its CRM-EH archaeological extension and English Heritage thesauri and glossaries. Results are reported from an initial evaluation, which suggest that these information extraction techniques can be applied to archaeological grey literature reports. Further work is discussed drawing on the evaluation and consideration of the characteristics of the archaeology domain. Copyright © 2012 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd

Carbon Monoxide in the Ambient Air and Blood Pressure: Evidence From NHANES II and the SAROAD System

Prior to 1985, ten states adopted some kind of indexing provisions for their personal income tax systems. Seven of these states subsequently suspended their indexing laws for one or more years. In this paper we examine the states' experience with income tax indexing and see what lessons can be drawn from it. We describe the indexing statutes, and estimate simple econometric models of both the decisions to adopt indexing and to renege on a promise to index.
