Combined Log System
Busy Internet archives generate large logs for each access method being used. These raw log files can be difficult to process and to search. This paper describes a system for reading these growing logs, a combined log file format into which they are re-written and a system that automates this building and integration for multiple access methods. Automated summarizing of the information is also provided giving statistics on accesses by user, site, path-name and date/time amongst others
Synthesis of Safe, QoS Extendible, Application Specific Schedulers for Heterogeneous Real-Time Systems
We present a new scheduler architecture, which permits adding QoS (quality of service) policies to the scheduling decisions. We also present a new scheduling synthesis method which allows a designer to obtain a safe scheduler for a particular application. Our scheduler architecture and scheduler synthesis method can be used for heterogeneous applications where the tasks communicate through various synchronization primitives. We present a prototype implementation of this scheduler architecture and related mechanisms on top of an open-source OS (operating system) for embedded systems
A Data Transformation System for Biological Data Sources
Scientific data of importance to biologists in the Human Genome Project resides not only in conventional databases, but in structured files maintained in a number of different formats (e.g. ASN.1 and ACE) as well a.s sequence analysis packages (e.g. BLAST and FASTA). These formats and packages contain a number of data types not found in conventional databases, such as lists and variants, and may be deeply nested. We present in this paper techniques for querying and transforming such data, and illustrate their use in a prototype system developed in conjunction with the Human Genome Center for Chromosome 22. We also describe optimizations performed by the system, a crucial issue for bulk data
HeteroGenius: A Framework for Hybrid Analysis of Heterogeneous Software Specifications
Nowadays, software artifacts are ubiquitous in our lives being an essential
part of home appliances, cars, cell phones, and even in more critical
activities like aeronautics and health sciences. In this context software
failures may produce enormous losses, either economical or, in the worst case,
in human lives. Software analysis is an area in software engineering concerned
with the application of diverse techniques in order to prove the absence of
errors in software pieces. In many cases different analysis techniques are
applied by following specific methodological combinations that ensure better
results. These interactions between tools are usually carried out at the user
level and it is not supported by the tools. In this work we present
HeteroGenius, a framework conceived to develop tools that allow users to
perform hybrid analysis of heterogeneous software specifications.
HeteroGenius was designed prioritising the possibility of adding new
specification languages and analysis tools and enabling a synergic relation of
the techniques under a graphical interface satisfying several well-known
usability enhancement criteria. As a case-study we implemented the
functionality of Dynamite on top of HeteroGenius.Comment: In Proceedings LAFM 2013, arXiv:1401.056
The communication processor of TUMULT-64
Tumult (Twente University MULTi-processor system) is a modular extendible multi-processor system designed and implemented at the Twente University of Technology in co-operation with Oce Nederland B.V. and the Dr. Neher Laboratories (Dutch PTT). Characteristics of the hardware are: MIMD type, distributed memory, message passing, high performance, real-time and fault tolerant. A distributed real-time operating system has been realized, consisting of a multi-tasking kernel per node, inter process communication via typed messages and a distributed file system. In this paper first a brief description of the system is given, after that the architecture of the communication processor will be discussed. Reduction of the communication overhead due to message passing will be emphasized.\ud

Discrete sequence prediction and its applications
Learning from experience to predict sequences of discrete symbols is a fundamental problem in machine learning with many applications. We apply sequence prediction using a simple and practical sequence-prediction algorithm, called TDAG. The TDAG algorithm is first tested by comparing its performance with some common data compression algorithms. Then it is adapted to the detailed requirements of dynamic program optimization, with excellent results
