Overlap Algorithms in Flexible Job-shop Scheduling

    Get PDF
The flexible Job-shop Scheduling Problem (fJSP) considers the execution of jobs by a set of candidate resources while satisfying time and technological constraints. This work, that follows the hierarchical architecture, is based on an algorithm where each objective (resource allocation, start-time assignment) is solved by a genetic algorithm (GA) that optimizes a particular fitness function, and enhances the results by the execution of a set of heuristics that evaluate and repair each scheduling constraint on each operation. The aim of this work is to analyze the impact of some algorithmic features of the overlap constraint heuristics, in order to achieve the objectives at a highest degree. To demonstrate the efficiency of this approach, experimentation has been performed and compared with similar cases, tuning the GA parameters correctly

In recent years, the optimal design of the workshop schedule has received much attention with the increased competition in the business environment. As a strategic issue, designing a workshop schedule affects other decisions in the production chain. The purpose of this thesis is to design a three-objective mathematical model, with the objectives of minimizing work completion time, work delay time and energy consumption, considering the importance of businesses attention to reduce energy consumption in recent years. The developed model has been solved using exact solution methods of Weighted Sum (WS) and Epsilon Constraint (Ɛ) in small dimensions using GAMS software. These problems were also solved in large-scale problems with NSGA-II and SFLA meta-heuristic algorithms using MATLAB software in single-objective and multi-objective mode due to the NP-Hard nature of this group of large and real dimensional problems. The standard BRdata set of problems were used to investigate the algorithms performance in solving these problems so that it is possible to compare the algorithms performance of this research with the results of the algorithms used by other researchers. The obtained results show the relatively appropriate performance of these algorithms in solving these problems and also the much better and more optimal performance of the NSGA-II algorithm compared to the performance of the SFLA algorithm

Flexible Job shop scheduling problem (FJSSP) is one of scheduling problems with specification: there is a job to be done in a certain order, each job contains a number of operations and each operation is processed on a machine of some available machine. The purpose of this paper is to solve Multi-objective Flexible Job Shop scheduling problem with minimizing the makespan, the biggest workload and the total workload of all machines. Because of complexity these problem, a integrated approach Immune Algorithm (IA) and Simulated Annealing (SA) algorithm are combined to solve the multi-objective FJSSP. A clonal selection is a strategy for generating new antibody based on selecting the antibody for reproduction. SA is used as a local search search algorithm for enhancing the local ability with certain probability to avoid becoming trapped in a local optimum. The simulation result have proved that this hybrid immune algorithm is an efficient and effective approach to solve the multi-objective FJSS

The mode of production in the modern manufacturing enterprise mainly prefers to MTO (Make-to-Order); how to reasonably arrange the production plan has become a very common and urgent problem for enterprises’ managers to improve inner production reformation in the competitive market environment. In this paper, a mathematical model of production planning is proposed to maximize the profit with capacity constraint. Four kinds of cost factors (material cost, process cost, delay cost, and facility occupy cost) are considered in the proposed model. Different factors not only result in different profit but also result in different satisfaction degrees of customers. Particularly, the delay cost and facility occupy cost cannot reach the minimum at the same time; the two objectives are interactional. This paper presents a mathematical model based on the actual production process of a foundry flow shop. An improved genetic algorithm (IGA) is proposed to solve the biobjective problem of the model. Also, the gene encoding and decoding, the definition of fitness function, and genetic operators have been illustrated. In addition, the proposed algorithm is used to solve the production planning problem of a foundry flow shop in a casting enterprise. And comparisons with other recently published algorithms show the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm

Over many decades, a large number of complex optimization problems have brought researchers' attention to consider in-depth research on optimization. Production scheduling problem is one of the optimization problems that has been the focus of researchers since the 60s. The main problem in production scheduling is to allocate the machines to perform the tasks. Job Shop Scheduling Problem (JSSP) and Flexible Job Shop Scheduling Problem (FJSSP) are two of the areas in production scheduling problems for these machines. One of the main objectives in solving JSSP and FJSSP is to obtain the best solution with minimum total completion processing time. Thus, this thesis developed algorithms for single and hybrid methods to solve JSSP and FJSSP in static and dynamic environments. In a static environment, no change is needed for the produced solution but changes to the solution are needed. On the other hand, in a dynamic environment, there are many real time events such as random arrival of jobs or machine breakdown requiring solutions. To solve these problems for static and dynamic environments, the single and hybrid methods were introduced. Single method utilizes Artificial Immune System (AIS), whereas AIS and Variable Neighbourhood Descent (VND) are used in the hybrid method. Clonal Selection Principle (CSP) algorithm in the AIS was used in the proposed single and hybrid methods. In addition, to evaluate the significance of the proposed methods, experiments and One-Way ANOVA tests were conducted. The findings showed that the hybrid method was proven to give better performance compared to single method in producing optimized solution and reduced solution generating time. The main contribution of this thesis is the development of an algorithm used in the single and hybrid methods to solve JSSP and FJSSP in static and dynamic environment

Mathematical Modelling and Optimization of Flexible Job Shops Scheduling Problem

The flexible job shop scheduling problem (F-JSSP) is mathematically formulated. One novel position-based and three sequence-based mixed integer linear programming models are developed. Since F-JSSPs are strongly NP-hard, MILPs fail to solve large-size instances within a reasonable timeframe. Thus, a meta-heuristic, a hybrid of artificial immune and simulated annealing (AISA), is developed for use with larger instances of the F-JSSP. To prove the efficiency of developed MILPs and AISA, they are compared against state-of-the-art MILPs and meta-heuristics in literature. Comparative evaluations are conducted to test the quality and performance of the developed models and solution technique respectively. To this end, size complexities of the developed MILPs are investigated. The acquired results demonstrate that the proposed MILPs outperform the state-of-the-art MILP models in literature. Likewise, the proposed AISA outperforms all the previously developed meta-heuristics. The developed AISA has successfully been applied to a realistic case study from mould and die industry
