    Application of design science research to design a modelling approach for procurement of infrastructure systems

    © 2019 IEEE. Model-driven approaches are widely used in managing the complex domains such as infrastructure systems or disaster management. The foundation of conducting a systematic research is designing a methodology that pertinently covers the steps of research from problem definition to solution proposal and then identifying or tailoring a method for developing and validating the solution. This paper explains the application of Design Science for conducting a research which aims at providing a model-driven approach for addressing the complexities of infrastructure procurement projects. So firstly the design science artefacts are adopted for designing the method for this research. Then the steps of this method are explained briefly along with description of how each step is applied in this research. The core of this method is proposing a process for developing and validating the metamodels which is designed based on combination of other metamodeling processes

    Software-Defined Networking (SDN) has received great responses from software industry in recent years. SDN has introduced number of technical symposium and technical discussions on computer network paradigm and topological design, along with research and scientific contributions. Fellow researchers, system administrators and engineers working on computer network, and hardware service providers are trying to establish new standards and provide guidelines for proper accomplishment and exploitation of such fresh approach. Now a dayïżœs efforts have been made in the southbound of the SDN architecture, while the northbound interface still needs improvements. Focusing in the SDN northbound, this paper is concentrating on relative study of the body of acquaintance and discusses the challenges for developing SDN software.SDN also inspect and focused on the existing solutions and to search out trends and challenge on programming for SDN environments. In this paper the vision developments on techniques, provision, and methodologies for programmable networks, with the correct view in respect or aspect from the field of emerging software engineering is discussed.

Studies on SDN have brought a number of interesting technical discussions on network architecture design, along with scientific contributions. Researchers, network operators, and vendors are trying to establish new standards and provide guidelines for proper implementation and deployment of such novel approach. It is clear that many of these research efforts have been made in the southbound of the SDN architecture, while the northbound interface still needs improvements. By focusing in the SDN northbound, this paper surveys the body of knowledge and discusses the challenges for developing SDN software. We investigate the existing solutions and identify trends and challenges on programming for SDN environments. We also discuss future developments on techniques, specifications, and methodologies for programmable networks, with the orthogonal view from the Software Engineering discipline

    Use of domain-specific language in test automation

    The primary aim of this research project was to investigate techniques to replace the complicated process of testing embedded systems in automotive domain. The multi-component domain was composed of different hardware to be used in testing procedure which increased the level of difficulty in testing for an operator. As a result, an existing semi-automated testing procedure was replaced by more simpler and efficient framework (ViBATA). A key step taken in this scenario was the replacement of manual GUI interface with the scriptable one to enhance the automation. This was achieved by building a Domain-specific language which allowed test definition in the form of human readable scripts which could be stored for later use. A DSL is a scripting language defined for a particular domain with compact expressiveness. In this case the domain is testing embedded systems in general and automotive systems in particular. The final product was a test case specification document in the form of XML as an output of generated code from this DSL which will be input to ViBATA to make test specification component automated. In this research a comparative analysis of existing DSLs for alternative domains and investigation of their applicability to the presented domain was also performed. The technologies used in this project are Xtext to define the DSL grammar, Xtend to generate code in Java and Simple framework to generate output in XML. The stages involved in DSL development and how these stages were implemented is covered in this thesis. The developed DSL for this domain is tested for automotive and calculator systems in this thesis which proved that this is more general and flexible. The DSL is consistent, efficient and automated test specification component of testing framework in embedded systems
