An Investigation on the Prime and Twin Prime Number Functions by Periodical Binary Sequences and Symmetrical Runs in a Modified Sieve Procedure
In this work, the Sieve of Eratosthenes procedure (in the following named Sieve procedure) is approached by a novel point of view, which is able to give a justification of the Prime Number Theorem (P.N.T.). Moreover, an extension of this procedure to the case of twin primes is formulated. The proposed investigation, which is named Limited INtervals into PEriodical Sequences (LINPES) relies on a set of binary periodical sequences that are evaluated in limited intervals of the prime characteristic function. These sequences are built by considering the ensemble of deleted (that is, 0) and undeleted (that is, 1) integers in a modified version of the Sieve procedure, in such a way a symmetric succession of runs of zeroes is found in correspondence of the gaps between the undeleted integers in each period. Such a formulation is able to estimate the prime number function in an equivalent way to the logarithmic integral function Li(x). The present analysis is then extended to the twin primes, by taking into account only the runs whose size is two. In this case, the proposed procedure gives an estimation of the twin prime function that is equivalent to the one of the logarithmic integral function Li 2 ( x ) . As a consequence, a possibility is investigated in order to count the twin primes in the same intervals found for the primes. Being that the bounds of these intervals are given by squares of primes, if such an inference were actually proved, then the twin primes could be estimated up to infinity, by strengthening the conjecture of their never-ending

Proceedings of the 40th Aerospace Mechanisms Symposium
The Aerospace Mechanisms Symposium (AMS) provides a unique forum for those active in the design, production and use of aerospace mechanisms. A major focus is the reporting of problems and solutions associated with the development and flight certification of new mechanisms. Organized by the Mechanisms Education Association, responsibility for hosting the AMS is shared by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company (LMSSC). Now in its 40th symposium, the AMS continues to be well attended, attracting participants from both the U.S. and abroad. The 40th AMS, hosted by the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Cocoa Beach, Florida, was held May 12, 13 and 14, 2010. During these three days, 38 papers were presented. Topics included gimbals and positioning mechanisms, CubeSats, actuators, Mars rovers, and Space Station mechanisms. Hardware displays during the supplier exhibit gave attendees an opportunity to meet with developers of current and future mechanism components. Training Manual ICAR Short course on Application of advanced molecular methods in marine fishery resource management, conservation and sustainable mariculture
Molecular Biology and Biotechnology has undergone incredible progress in this decade mainly due to the rapid advancements in DNA sequencing technologies. Marine biology and fishery science also reaped the fruits of these modern inventions improving our understanding regarding complex adaptations in aquatic organisms. Fish Genetics have evolved into genomics incorporating knowledge about neutral and non-neutral markers. A project called Genome 10k was started by the international community of scientists for sequencing the genome of 10000 vertebrates. Whole genomes of many marine organisms are now available which provided insights into the evolution of many important traits. Transcriptome sequencing provides insights into expressed genes and metagenome sequencing provides information regarding the microbes present in environment. All these technologies are rapid and cost effective. Over years, these technologies provided exciting opportunities for understanding ecology and evolution. Genomic information can also be sustainably utilized to enhance productivity of mariculture activities by selective breeding, genetic improvement and manipulation of economically important traits.
ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute has contributed significantly to marine biotechnology research in the country and played a pivotal role in development of marine fisheries sector. The short course on “Application of advanced molecular methods in marine fisheries resource management, conservation and sustainable mariculture” conducted in ICAR-CMFRI from 24th October, 2018 to 2nd November, 2018 is specially designed to provide exposure to various applications of molecular tools in fisheries resource management, conservation of biodiversity and mariculture. I hope this compendium of lectures and protocols will be extremely useful for the participants to effectively utilize the knowledge in their own area of research. Simultaneously, on behalf of ICAR-CMFRI, I warmly welcome all the participants from various institutions and wish them all success in their future endeavors. I am sure that this training will result in new knowledge, collaborations and friendships
International Conference on Civil Infrastructure and Construction (CIC 2020)
This is the proceedings of the CIC 2020 Conference, which was held under
the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al
Thani in Doha, Qatar from 2 to 5 February 2020. The goal of the conference
was to provide a platform to discuss next-generation infrastructure and its
construction among key players such as researchers, industry professionals
and leaders, local government agencies, clients, construction contractors and
policymakers.
The conference gathered industry and academia to disseminate their research
and field experiences in multiple areas of civil engineering. It was also a unique
opportunity for companies and organizations to show the most recent
advances in the field of civil infrastructure and construction.
The conference covered a wide range of timely topics that address the needs
of the construction industry all over the world and particularly in Qatar. All
papers were peer reviewed by experts in their field and edited for publication.
The conference accepted a total number of 127 papers submitted by authors
from five different continents under the following four themes:

Using MapReduce Streaming for Distributed Life Simulation on the Cloud
Distributed software simulations are indispensable in the study of large-scale life models but often require the use of technically complex lower-level distributed computing frameworks, such as MPI. We propose to overcome the complexity challenge by applying the emerging MapReduce (MR) model to distributed life simulations and by running such simulations on the cloud. Technically, we design optimized MR streaming algorithms for discrete and continuous versions of Conway’s life according to a general MR streaming pattern. We chose life because it is simple enough as a testbed for MR’s applicability to a-life simulations and general enough to make our results applicable to various lattice-based a-life models. We implement and empirically evaluate our algorithms’ performance on Amazon’s Elastic MR cloud. Our experiments demonstrate that a single MR optimization technique called strip partitioning can reduce the execution time of continuous life simulations by 64%. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to propose and evaluate MR streaming algorithms for lattice-based simulations. Changes in economic and market conditions of mineral raw materials in recent
years have greatly increased demands on the ef fi ciency of mining production. This
is certainly true of the coal industry. World coal consumption is growing faster than
other types of fuel and in the past year it exceeded 7.6 billion tons. Coal extraction
and processing technology are continuously evolving, becoming more economical
and environmentally friendly. “ Clean coal ” technology is becoming increasingly
popular. Coal chemistry, production of new materials and pharmacology are now
added to the traditional use areas — power industry and metallurgy. The leading role
in the development of new areas of coal use belongs to preparation technology and
advanced coal processing. Hi-tech modern technology and the increasing interna-
tional demand for its effectiveness and ef fi ciency put completely new goals for the
University. Our main task is to develop a new generation of workforce capacity and
research in line with global trends in the development of science and technology to
address critical industry issues.
Today Russia, like the rest of the world faces rapid and profound changes
affecting all spheres of life. The de fi ning feature of modern era has been a rapid
development of high technology, intellectual capital being its main asset and
resource. The dynamics of scienti fi c and technological development requires acti-
vation of University research activities. The University must be a generator of ideas
to meet the needs of the economy and national development. Due to the high
intellectual potential, University expert mission becomes more and more called for
and is capable of providing professional assessment and building science-based
predictions in various fi elds.
Coal industry, as well as the whole fuel and energy sector of the global economy
is growing fast. Global multinational energy companies are less likely to be under
state in fl uence and will soon become the main mechanism for the rapid spread of
technologies based on new knowledge. Mineral resources will have an even greater
impact on the stability of the economies of many countries. Current progress in the
technology of coal-based gas synthesis is not just a change in the traditional energy markets, but the emergence of new products of direct consumption, obtained from
coal, such as synthetic fuels, chemicals and agrochemical products. All this requires
a revision of the value of coal in the modern world economy
Book of abstracts of the 10th International Chemical and Biological Engineering Conference: CHEMPOR 2008
This book contains the extended abstracts presented at the 10th International Chemical and Biological
Engineering Conference - CHEMPOR 2008, held in Braga, Portugal, over 3 days, from the 4th to the 6th of
September, 2008. Previous editions took place in Lisboa (1975, 1889, 1998), Braga (1978), Póvoa de
Varzim (1981), Coimbra (1985, 2005), Porto (1993), and Aveiro (2001).
The conference was jointly organized by the University of Minho, “Ordem dos Engenheiros”, and the IBB -
Institute for Biotechnology and Bioengineering with the usual support of the “Sociedade Portuguesa de
Química” and, by the first time, of the “Sociedade Portuguesa de Biotecnologia”.
Thirty years elapsed since CHEMPOR was held at the University of Minho, organized by T.R. Bott, D. Allen,
A. Bridgwater, J.J.B. Romero, L.J.S. Soares and J.D.R.S. Pinheiro. We are fortunate to have Profs. Bott, Soares
and Pinheiro in the Honor Committee of this 10th edition, under the high Patronage of his Excellency the
President of the Portuguese Republic, Prof. Aníbal Cavaco Silva. The opening ceremony will confer Prof.
Bott with a “Long Term Achievement” award acknowledging the important contribution Prof. Bott brought
along more than 30 years to the development of the Chemical Engineering science, to the launch of
CHEMPOR series and specially to the University of Minho. Prof. Bott’s inaugural lecture will address the
importance of effective energy management in processing operations, particularly in the effectiveness of
heat recovery and the associated reduction in greenhouse gas emission from combustion processes.
The CHEMPOR series traditionally brings together both young and established researchers and end users
to discuss recent developments in different areas of Chemical Engineering. The scope of this edition is
broadening out by including the Biological Engineering research. One of the major core areas of the
conference program is life quality, due to the importance that Chemical and Biological Engineering plays in
this area. “Integration of Life Sciences & Engineering” and “Sustainable Process-Product Development
through Green Chemistry” are two of the leading themes with papers addressing such important issues.
This is complemented with additional leading themes including “Advancing the Chemical and Biological
Engineering Fundamentals”, “Multi-Scale and/or Multi-Disciplinary Approach to Process-Product
Innovation”, “Systematic Methods and Tools for Managing the Complexity”, and “Educating Chemical and
Biological Engineers for Coming Challenges” which define the extended abstracts arrangements along this
book.
A total of 516 extended abstracts are included in the book, consisting of 7 invited lecturers, 15 keynote,
105 short oral presentations given in 5 parallel sessions, along with 6 slots for viewing 389 poster
presentations. Full papers are jointly included in the companion Proceedings in CD-ROM. All papers have
been reviewed and we are grateful to the members of scientific and organizing committees for their
evaluations. It was an intensive task since 610 submitted abstracts from 45 countries were received.
It has been an honor for us to contribute to setting up CHEMPOR 2008 during almost two years. We wish
to thank the authors who have contributed to yield a high scientific standard to the program. We are
thankful to the sponsors who have contributed decisively to this event. We also extend our gratefulness to
all those who, through their dedicated efforts, have assisted us in this task.
