Monitoring various internal parameters plays a core role in ensuring the safety of lithium-ion batteries in power supply applications. It also influences the sustainability effect and online state of charge prediction. An improved multiple feature-electrochemical thermal coupling modeling method is proposed considering low-temperature performance degradation for the complete characteristic expression of multi-dimensional information. This is to obtain the parameter influence mechanism with a multi-variable coupling relationship. An optimized decoupled deviation strategy is constructed for accurate state of charge prediction with real-time correction of time-varying current and temperature effects. The innovative decoupling method is combined with the functional relationships of state of charge and open-circuit voltage to capture energy management effectively. Then, an adaptive equivalent-prediction model is constructed using the state-space equation and iterative feedback correction, making the proposed model adaptive to fractional calculation. The maximum state of charge estimation errors of the proposed method are 4.57% and 0.223% under the Beijing bus dynamic stress test and dynamic stress test conditions, respectively. The improved multiple feature-electrochemical thermal coupling modeling realizes the effective correction of the current and temperature variations with noise influencing coefficient, and provides an efficient state of charge prediction method adaptive to complex conditions

Force sensors for active safety, stability enhancement and lightweight construction of road vehicles

    Get PDF
Force and moment measurement at different locations within road vehicles is a multifaceted, comprehensive and forthcoming technology that might play a breakthrough role in automotive engineering. The paper aims to describe why such technology seems so promising. A literature review is accomplished on which forces can be measured and what can be obtained with force and moment data. Additionally, attention is devoted to where–and how–force and moments can be measured effectively. Force and moment measurement technology is also studied with an historical perspective, briefly analysing the past applications. Active safety systems (ADAS up to full automated driving) and automotive stability enhancement systems are expected to be impacted by the measurement of forces and moments at the wheels. Friction potential evaluation and driver model development and monitoring have been–and are expected to be–major field of research. Force and moment measurement technology may also be exploited for lightweight construction purposes with remarkable synergistic effects with active safety and stability enhancement systems. Possible innovations on lightweight construction and sustainable mobility are to be expected thanks to force and moment measurement

    Intelligent vehicles: integration and issues

International audienceIn the process of building more and more intelligent vehicles, scientists and car makers are progressively integrating new tools that make the vehicle more independent from human action. However, when can a vehicle be considered as intelligent? In this paper, we first point out the necessity of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) to collaborate. Indeed, AI is mainly used as a tool in robotics for different tasks such as perception and control. Thus, we show the lack of a supervision level in current vehicles. Finally, we provide some implementations from Rits going towards more intelligent perception by adding a supervision level, dealing with the uncertainties, using communications and managing the resources.

Low power wide-area network (LPWAN) technology aims to provide long range and low power wireless communication. It can serve as an alternative technology for data transmissions in many application scenarios (e.g., parking monitoring and remote flood sensing). In order to explore its feasibility in transportation systems, this project conducted a review of relevant literature to understand the current status of LPWAN applications. An online survey that targeted professionals concerned with transportation was also developed to elicit input about their experiences in using LPWAN technology for their projects. The literature review and survey results showed that LPWAN’s application in the U.S. is still in an early stage. Many agencies were not familiar with LPWAN technology, and only a few off-the-shelf LPWAN products are currently available that may be directly used for transportation systems. To conceptually explore data transmission, a set of lab tests, using a primary LPWAN technology, namely LoRa, were performed on a university campus area as well as in a rural area. The lab tests showed that several key factors, such as the mounting heights of devices, distance between the gateway and sensor nodes, and brands of devices affected the LPWAN’s performance. Building upon these efforts, the research team proposed a high-level field test plan for facilitating a potential Phase 2 study that will address primary technical issues concerning the feasibility of transmitting data of different sizes, data transmission frequency, and transmission rate, deployment requirements, etc

Packet filter performance monitor (anti-DDOS algorithm for hybrid topologies)

DDoS attacks are increasingly becoming a major problem. According to Arbor Networks, the largest DDoS attack reported by a respondent in 2015 was 500 Gbps. Hacker News stated that the largest DDoS attack as of March 2016 was over 600 Gbps, and the attack targeted the entire BBC website. With this increasing frequency and threat, and the average DDoS attack duration at about 16 hours, we know for certain that DDoS attacks will not be going away anytime soon. Commercial companies are not effectively providing mitigation techniques against these attacks, considering that major corporations face the same challenges. Current security appliances are not strong enough to handle the overwhelming traffic that accompanies current DDoS attacks. There is also a limited research on solutions to mitigate DDoS attacks. Therefore, there is a need for a means of mitigating DDoS attacks in order to minimize downtime. One possible solution is for organizations to implement their own architectures that are meant to mitigate DDoS attacks. In this dissertation, we present and implement an architecture that utilizes an activity monitor to change the states of firewalls based on their performance in a hybrid network. Both firewalls are connected inline. The monitor is mirrored to monitor the firewall states. The monitor reroutes traffic when one of the firewalls become overwhelmed due to a HTTP DDoS flooding attack. The monitor connects to the API of both firewalls. The communication between the rewalls and monitor is encrypted using AES, based on PyCrypto Python implementation. This dissertation is structured in three parts. The first found the weakness of the hardware firewall and determined its threshold based on spike and endurance tests. This was achieved by flooding the hardware firewall with HTTP packets until the firewall became overwhelmed and unresponsive. The second part implements the same test as the first, but targeted towards the virtual firewall. The same parameters, test factors, and determinants were used; however a different load tester was utilized. The final part was the implementation and design of the firewall performance monitor. The main goal of the dissertation is to minimize downtime when network firewalls are overwhelmed as a result of a DDoS attack
