Designing a ‘concept of operations’ architecture for next-generation multi-organisational service networks
Networked service organisations are increasingly adopting a ‘smarter networking’ philosophy in their design of more agile and customer-focused supply models. Changing consumer behaviours and the emergence of transformative technologies—industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, the Internet of Things—are driving a series of innovations, in terms of ‘products’ and business models, with major implications for the industrial enterprise, in their design of more ‘digitalised’ supply chains. For B2B systems, emerging ‘product-service’ offerings are requiring greater visibility, alignment and integration across an increasingly complex network of multiple partners and collaborators, in order to deliver a better service and customer ‘experience’. To support the design and operation of these multi-organisational service networks, we outline a concept of operations architecture here, underpinned by the literature and network theory, and demonstrate application using a series of exemplar case studies. Focusing on relational elements and the processes key to network integration within service supply networks, the cases inform a set of operating principles and protocols—applicable to all stakeholders ‘cooperating’, within a ‘shared’ environment. Equally critical is to understand how digital technologies may influence future operating philosophies. This article extends our theoretical understanding of network organisations, from a traditional ‘product’ perspective to that of ‘services’, and presents the case for developing a common, unified approach to designing diverse forms of multi-partner service networks.This is the final version of the article. A review of personal communications services

meaning. At the low layer, from the technical perspective, PCS is a 2G mobile
communication technology operating at the 1900 MHz frequency range. At the upper
layer, PCS is often used as an umbrella term that includes various wireless access and
personal mobility services with the ultimate goal of enabling users to freely communicate
with anyone at anytime and anywhere according to their demand. Ubiquitous PCS can be implemented by integrating the wireless and wireline systems on the basis of intelligent network (IN), which provides network functions of terminal and personal mobility. In this chapter, we focus on various aspects of PCS except location management. First we describe the motivation and technological evolution for personal communications. Then we introduce three key issues related to PCS: spectrum allocation, mobility, and standardization efforts. Since PCS involves several different communication
technologies, we introduce its heterogeneous and distributed system architecture. IN is
also described in detail because it plays a critical role in the development of PCS. Finally, we introduce the application of PCS and its deployment status since the mid-term of 1990’s.This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China

Inter-Domain Integration of Services and Service Management
The evolution of the global telecommunications industry into an open services market presents developers of telecommunication service and management systems with many new challenges. Increased competition, complex service provision chains and integrated service offerings require effective techniques for the rapid integration of service and management systems over multiple organisational domains. These integration issues have been examined in the ACTS project Prospect by developing a working set of integrated, managed telecommunications services for a user trial. This paper presents the initial results of this work detailing the technologies and standards used, the architectural approach taken and the application of this approach to specific services
Digital Twin for Non-Terrestrial Networks: Vision, Challenges, and Enabling Technologies
This paper explores the transformative potential of digital twin (DT)
technology in the context of non-terrestrial networks (NTNs). NTNs,
encompassing both airborne and space-borne elements, present unique challenges
in network control, management, and optimization. DT is a novel approach to
design and manage complicated cyber-physical systems with a high degree of
automation, intelligence, and resilience. The adoption of DTs within NTNs
offers a dynamic and detailed virtual representation of the entire ecosystem,
enabling real-time monitoring, simulations, and data-driven decision-making.
This paper delves into the envisioned integration of DTs in NTNs, discussing
the technical challenges and highlighting key enabling technologies. Emphasis
is placed on technologies such as Internet of things (IoT), artificial
intelligence (AI), space-based cloud computing, quantum computing, and others,
providing a comprehensive overview of their potentials in empowering DT
development for NTNs. In closing, we present a case study involving the
implementation of a data-driven DT model to facilitate dynamic and
service-oriented network slicing within an open radio access network (O-RAN)
architecture for NTNs. This work contributes to shaping the future of network
control and management in the dynamic and evolving landscape of non-terrestrial
communication systems
Customer-engineer relationship management for converged ICT service companies
Thanks to the advent of converged communications services (often referred to as ‘triple play’), the next generation Service Engineer will need radically different skills, processes and tools from today’s counterpart. Why? in order to meet the challenges of installing and maintaining services based on multi-vendor software and hardware components in an IP-based network environment. The converged services environment is likely to be ‘smart’ and support flexible and dynamic interoperability between appliances and computing devices. These radical changes in the working environment will inevitably force managers to rethink the role of Service Engineers in relation to customer relationship management. This paper aims to identify requirements for an information system to support converged communications service engineers with regard to customer-engineer relationship management. Furthermore, an architecture for such a system is proposed and how it meets these requirements is discussed
Intelligent distributed multimedia collection: content aggregation and integration
People's multimedia content is spread around their home network and content services on the Internet, such as YouTube, Flickr, Facebook. In this paper we present a system that aggregates all the multimedia content of the end user and integrates it into a unified collection for the user's convenience. The system provides location transparency of multimedia content, content filtering on player compatibility and metadata completion to aid in improved usability. This effectively enables the user to rediscover his multimedia collection without any technical knowledge. A proof-of-concept implementation known as Intelligent Distributed Multimedia Collection (IDMC) has been made that is able to detect and browse UPnP MediaServer devices as well as collect information from YouTube. This implementation also contains a media player and is able to control UPnP MediaRenderer devices remotely. Furthermore, performance has been measured to assess different ways of iterating through a multimedia collection

The purpose of AmbieSense is to provide personalised, context-sensitive information to the mobile user. It is about augmenting digital information to physical objects, rooms, and areas. The aim is to provide relevant information to the right user and situation. Digital content is distributed from the surroundings and onto your mobile phone. An ambient information environment is provided by a combination of context tag technology, a software platform to manage and deliver the information, and personal computing devices to which the information is served.
