Parametric Macromodels of Differential Drivers and Receivers
This paper addresses the modeling of differential drivers and receivers for the analog simulation of high-speed interconnection systems. The proposed models are based on mathematical expressions, whose parameters can be estimated from the transient responses of the modeled devices. The advantages of this macromodeling approach are: improved accuracy with respect to models based on simplified equivalent circuits of devices; improved numerical efficiency with respect to detailed transistor-level models of devices; hiding of the internal structure of devices; straightforward circuit interpretation; or implementations in analog mixed-signal simulators. The proposed methodology is demonstrated on example devices and is applied to the prediction of transient waveforms and eye diagrams of a typical low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) data link
Mathematical structures in the network representation of energy-conserving physical systems
It is shown that network modelling of energy-conserving physical systems naturally leads to the consideration of (nonlinear) implicit generalized Hamiltonian systems. Behavioral systems theory may be invoked to formulate and analyze the system-theoretic properties of these systems.
A survey on modeling of microgrids - from fundamental physics to phasors and voltage sources
Microgrids have been identified as key components of modern electrical
systems to facilitate the integration of renewable distributed generation
units. Their analysis and controller design requires the development of
advanced (typically model-based) techniques naturally posing an interesting
challenge to the control community. Although there are widely accepted reduced
order models to describe the dynamic behavior of microgrids, they are typically
presented without details about the reduction procedure---hampering the
understanding of the physical phenomena behind them. Preceded by an
introduction to basic notions and definitions in power systems, the present
survey reviews key characteristics and main components of a microgrid. We
introduce the reader to the basic functionality of DC/AC inverters, as well as
to standard operating modes and control schemes of inverter-interfaced power
sources in microgrid applications. Based on this exposition and starting from
fundamental physics, we present detailed dynamical models of the main microgrid
components. Furthermore, we clearly state the underlying assumptions which lead
to the standard reduced model with inverters represented by controllable
voltage sources, as well as static network and load representations, hence,
providing a complete modular model derivation of a three-phase inverter-based
microgrid
Digital waveguide modeling for wind instruments: building a state-space representation based on the Webster-Lokshin model
This paper deals with digital waveguide modeling of wind instruments. It presents the application of state-space representations for the refined acoustic model of Webster-Lokshin. This acoustic model describes the propagation of longitudinal waves in axisymmetric acoustic pipes with a varying cross-section, visco-thermal losses at the walls, and without assuming planar or spherical waves. Moreover, three types of discontinuities of the shape can be taken into account (radius, slope and curvature).
The purpose of this work is to build low-cost digital simulations in the time domain based on the Webster-Lokshin model. First, decomposing a resonator into independent elementary parts and isolating delay operators lead to a Kelly-Lochbaum network of input/output systems and delays. Second, for a systematic assembling of elements, their state-space representations are derived in discrete time. Then, standard tools of automatic control are used to reduce the complexity of digital simulations in the time domain. The method is applied to a real trombone, and results of simulations are presented and compared with measurements. This method seems to be a promising approach in term of modularity, complexity of calculation and accuracy, for any acoustic resonators based on tubes
