    Almost sure exponential stabilisation of stochastic systems by state-feedback control

    So far, a major part of the literature on the stabilisation issues of stochastic systems has been dedicated to mean square stability. This paper develops a new class of criteria for designing a controller to stabilise a stochastic system almost surely which is unable to be stabilised in mean-square sense. The results are expressed in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) which are easy to be checked in practice by using MATLAB Toolbox. Moreover, the control structure in this paper appears not only in the drift part but also in the diusion part of the underlying stochastic system

    Exponential Stabilisation of Continuous-time Periodic Stochastic Systems by Feedback Control Based on Periodic Discrete-time Observations

    Since Mao in 2013 discretised the system observations for stabilisation problem of hybrid SDEs (stochastic differential equations with Markovian switching) by feedback control, the study of this topic using a constant observation frequency has been further developed. However, time-varying observation frequencies have not been considered. Particularly, an observational more efficient way is to consider the time-varying property of the system and observe a periodic SDE system at the periodic time-varying frequencies. This study investigates how to stabilise a periodic hybrid SDE by a periodic feedback control, based on periodic discrete-time observations. This study provides sufficient conditions under which the controlled system can achieve pth moment exponential stability for p > 1 and almost sure exponential stability. Lyapunov's method and inequalities are main tools for derivation and analysis. The existence of observation interval sequences is verified and one way of its calculation is provided. Finally, an example is given for illustration. Their new techniques not only reduce observational cost by reducing observation frequency dramatically but also offer flexibility on system observation settings. This study allows readers to set observation frequencies according to their needs to some extent

    Advances in stabilisation of hybrid stochastic differential equations by delay feedback control

    A novel approach to design the feedback control based on past states is proposed for hybrid stochastic differential equations (HSDEs). This new theorem builds up the connection between the delay feedback control and the control function without delay terms, which enables one to construct the delay feedback control using the existing results on stabilities of HSDEs. Methods to find the upper bound of the length of the time delay are also investigated. Numerical simulations are presented to demonstrate the new theorem

    Stability of stochastic impulsive differential equations: integrating the cyber and the physical of stochastic systems

    According to Newton's second law of motion, we humans describe a dynamical system with a differential equation, which is naturally discretized into a difference equation whenever a computer is used. The differential equation is the physical model in human brains and the difference equation the cyber model in computers for the dynamical system. The physical model refers to the dynamical system itself (particularly, a human-designed system) in the physical world and the cyber model symbolises it in the cyber counterpart. This paper formulates a hybrid model with impulsive differential equations for the dynamical system, which integrates its physical model in real world/human brains and its cyber counterpart in computers. The presented results establish a theoretic foundation for the scientific study of control and communication in the animal/human and the machine (Norbert Wiener) in the era of rise of the machines as well as a systems science for cyber-physical systems (CPS)

    This paper is concerned with the almost sure exponential stability of the multidimensional nonlinear stochastic differential delay equation (SDDE) with variable delays of the form dx(t) = f(x(t−δ1(t)), t)dt+g(x(t−δ2(t)), t)dB(t), where δ1, δ2 : R+ → [0, τ ] stand for variable delays. We show that if the corresponding (nondelay) stochastic differential equation (SDE) dy(t) = f(y(t), t)dt + g(y(t), t)dB(t) admits a Lyapunov function (which in particular implies the almost sure exponential stability of the SDE) then there exists a positive number τ ∗ such that the SDDE is also almost sure exponentially stable as long as the delay is bounded by τ ∗ . We provide an implicit lower bound for τ ∗ which can be computed numerically. Moreover, our new theory enables us to design stochastic delay feedback controls in order to stabilize unstable differential equation

    On the asymptotic behavior of highly nonlinear hybrid stochastic delay differential equations

    In this paper, under a local Lipschitz condition and a monotonicity condition, the problems on the existence and uniqueness theorem as well as the almost surely asymptotic behavior for the global solution of highly nonlinear stochastic differential equations with time-varying delay and Markovian switching are discussed by using the Lyapunov function and some stochastic analysis techniques. Two integral lemmas are firstly established to overcome the difficulty stemming from the coexistence of the stochastic perturbation and the time-varying delay. Then, without any redundant restrictive condition on the time-varying delay, by utilizing the integral inequality, the exponential stability in pth(p ≥ 1)-moment for such equations is investigated. By employing the nonnegative semi-martingale convergence theorem, the almost sure exponential stability is analyzed.     Given an unstable linear scalar differential equation x˙ (t) = αx(t) (α > 0), we will show that the discrete-time stochastic feedback control σx([t/τ ]τ )dB(t) can stabilize it. That is, we will show that the stochastically controlled system dx(t) = αx(t)dt +σx([t/τ ]τ )dB(t) is almost surely exponentially stable when σ2 > 2α and τ > 0 is sufficiently small, where B(t) is a Brownian motion and [t/τ ] is the integer part of t/τ . We will also discuss the nonlinear stabilization problem by a discrete- time stochastic feedback control. The reason why we consider the discrete-time stochastic feedback control is because that the state of the given system is in fact observed only at discrete times, say 0, τ, 2τ, • • • , for example, where τ > 0 is the duration between two consecutive observations. Accordingly, the stochastic feedback control should be designed based on these discrete-time observations, namely the stochastic feedback control should be of the form σx([t/τ ]τ )dB(t).     Stabilisation of hybrid stochastic differential equations by feedback control based on discrete-time observations of state and mode

    Mao [10] recently initiated the study of the mean-square exponential stabilisation of continuous-time hybrid stochastic differential equations (SDEs) by the feedback controls based on the discrete-time observations of the state. However, the feedback controls still depend on the continuous-time observations of the mode. Of course this is perfectly fine if the mode of the system is obvious (i.e. fully observable at no cost). However, it could often be the case where the mode is not obvious and it costs to identify the current mode of the system. To reduce the control cost, it is reasonable we identify the mode at the discrete times when we make observations for the state. Hence the feedback control should be designed based on the discrete-time observations of both state and mode. The aim of this paper is to show how to design such a feedback control to stabilise a given hybrid SDE
