Multiple Conclusion Rules in Logics with the Disjunction Property
We prove that for the intermediate logics with the disjunction property any
basis of admissible rules can be reduced to a basis of admissible m-rules
(multiple-conclusion rules), and every basis of admissible m-rules can be
reduced to a basis of admissible rules. These results can be generalized to a
broad class of logics including positive logic and its extensions, Johansson
logic, normal extensions of S4, n-transitive logics and intuitionistic modal
logics
Unifiability and Structural Completeness in Relation Algebras and in Products of Modal Logic S5
Unifiability of terms (and formulas) and structural completeness in the variety of relation algebras RA and in the products of modal logic S5 is investigated. Nonunifiable terms (formulas) which are satisfiable in varieties (in logics) are exhibited. Consequently, RA and products of S5 as well as representable diagonal-free n-dimensional cylindric algebras, RDfn, are almost structurally complete but not structurally complete. In case of S5ⁿ a basis for admissible rules and the form of all passive rules are provided
Labelled calculi for quantified modal logics with definite descriptions
We introduce labelled sequent calculi for quantified modal logics with
definite descriptions. We prove that these calculi have the good structural
properties of G3-style calculi. In particular, all rules are height-preserving
invertible, weakening and contraction are height-preserving admissible and cut
is admissible. Finally, we show that each calculus gives a proof-theoretic
characterization of validity in the corresponding class of models
Proof theory of quantified modal logics
We introduce labelled sequent calculi for indexed modal logics. We prove that the structural rules of weakening and contraction are height-preserving admissible, that all rules are invertible, and that cut is admissible. Then we prove that each calculus introduced is sound and complete with respect to the appropriate class of transition frames
Generic Modal Cut Elimination Applied to Conditional Logics
We develop a general criterion for cut elimination in sequent calculi for
propositional modal logics, which rests on absorption of cut, contraction,
weakening and inversion by the purely modal part of the rule system. Our
criterion applies also to a wide variety of logics outside the realm of normal
modal logic. We give extensive example instantiations of our framework to
various conditional logics. For these, we obtain fully internalised calculi
which are substantially simpler than those known in the literature, along with
leaner proofs of cut elimination and complexity. In one case, conditional logic
with modus ponens and conditional excluded middle, cut elimination and
complexity were explicitly stated as open in the literature
Dual-Context Calculi for Modal Logic
We present natural deduction systems and associated modal lambda calculi for
the necessity fragments of the normal modal logics K, T, K4, GL and S4. These
systems are in the dual-context style: they feature two distinct zones of
assumptions, one of which can be thought as modal, and the other as
intuitionistic. We show that these calculi have their roots in in sequent
calculi. We then investigate their metatheory, equip them with a confluent and
strongly normalizing notion of reduction, and show that they coincide with the
usual Hilbert systems up to provability. Finally, we investigate a categorical
semantics which interprets the modality as a product-preserving functor.Comment: Full version of article previously presented at LICS 2017 (see
