This document provides an in-depth analysis of visualization and interaction tools employed in the context of Virtual Museum. This analysis is required to identify and design the tools and the different components that will be part of the Common Implementation Framework (CIF). The CIF will be the base of the web-based services and tools to support the development of Virtual Museums with particular attention to online Virtual Museum. The main goal is to provide to the stakeholders and developers an useful platform to support and help them in the development of their projects, despite the nature of the project itself. The design of the Common Implementation Framework (CIF) is based on an analysis of the typical workflow ofthe V-MUST partners and their perceived limitations of current technologies. This document is based also on the results of the V-MUST technical questionnaire (presented in the Deliverable 4.1). Based on these two source of information, we have selected some important tools (mainly visualization tools) and services and we elaborate some first guidelines and ideas for the design and development of the CIF, that shall provide a technological foundation for the V-MUST Platform, together with the V-MUST repository/repositories and the additional services defined in the WP4. Two state of the art reports, one about user interface design and another one about visualization technologies have been also provided in this document

The results obtained when investigating intercultural educommunicative programs are presented from the importance for the transformation of learning. Participation and collaboration strategies that contribute to individual and social development, in addition to multidisciplinary integration. Educational programs in Ecuador are dedicated from the recognition of their 14 nationalities, in other words, reforms in educational methods are expected to be intercultural; However, since Kichwa has a greater number of speakers after the Spanish language, it is absent in classrooms and spaces for social development.   The limitation of native speakers to be able to access a quality education means the absence of students in the different educational fields and, consequently, the loss of the Kichwa language and indigenous identity increases inequality and lack of democracy. Studies show new educommunicational ways to incorporate interculturality through the virtual environment. In this way, the access of students from different spaces is increased, training educators in the Kichwa language in intercultural methodology. The platforms use programs that are developed in their native Kichwa language.

30th International Conference on Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases

Information modelling is becoming more and more important topic for researchers, designers, and users of information systems. The amount and complexity of information itself, the number of abstraction levels of information, and the size of databases and knowledge bases are continuously growing. Conceptual modelling is one of the sub-areas of information modelling. The aim of this conference is to bring together experts from different areas of computer science and other disciplines, who have a common interest in understanding and solving problems on information modelling and knowledge bases, as well as applying the results of research to practice. We also aim to recognize and study new areas on modelling and knowledge bases to which more attention should be paid. Therefore philosophy and logic, cognitive science, knowledge management, linguistics and management science are relevant areas, too. In the conference, there will be three categories of presentations, i.e. full papers, short papers and position papers

    Social navigation

In this chapter we present one of the pioneer approaches in supporting users in navigating the complex information spaces, social navigation support. Social navigation support is inspired by natural tendencies of individuals to follow traces of each other in exploring the world, especially when dealing with uncertainties. In this chapter, we cover details on various approaches in implementing social navigation support in the information space as we also connect the concept to supporting theories. The first part of this chapter reviews related theories and introduces the design space of social navigation support through a series of example applications. The second part of the chapter discusses the common challenges in design and implementation of social navigation support, demonstrates how these challenges have been addressed, and reviews more recent direction of social navigation support. Furthermore, as social navigation support has been an inspirational approach to various other social information access approaches we discuss how social navigation support can be integrated with those approaches. We conclude with a review of evaluation methods for social navigation support and remarks about its current state

The Future of Connection : Serendipity and Control in Interpersonal Communication Tools

    Get PDF
This foresight project explored the contemporary trends and tensions inherent in people's experiences with and using interpersonal communication tools. A standard foresight process was overlaid with an experiential lens in order to provide technology designers with useful insights. The outcomes of this project include four tools intended for designers of interpersonal communication applications. These tools include a map of experiential tensions, a landscape of contemporary behaviour, a set of four future scenarios and implications of each, and finally a set of ten reflection questions intended to provoke critical thought about the choices designers make about the balance between serendipity and control in interpersonal communication tools

Foresight-Informed Agile For Resilient Product Strategy

    Get PDF
Agile is today’s dominant operational framework in software product development due to its effectiveness at helping teams overcome dynamic and uncertain conditions. As external uncertainties increase, some organizations are also adopting Agile as a strategic approach. However, we hypothesize that while Agile contributes to adaptability, it is insufficient for an organization to be resilient against major disruptions. This research project studies the relationship between Agile software development and the strategic resilience of small-to-medium-sized organizations in Ontario, Canada. Using a mix of surveys and interviews with product leaders, we found that many teams’ strategic capability to be resilient is limited due to Agile’s narrow attention and short-term focus, encouraging teams to be reactive rather than proactive. We designed the Resilient Product Strategy Toolkit, which integrates proven Strategic Foresight practices with existing Agile and product management processes to help teams broaden their attention and increase their capability to manage uncertainty. This research design contributes to the plausibility of combining Agile and Strategic Foresight as an ambidextrous approach to enhance an organization’s strategic resilience
