On the feasibility of attribute-based encryption on Internet of Things devices
Attribute-based encryption (ABE) could be an effective cryptographic tool for the secure management of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, but its feasibility in the IoT has been under-investigated thus far. This article explores such feasibility for well-known IoT platforms, namely, Intel Galileo Gen 2, Intel Edison, Raspberry pi 1 model B, and Raspberry pi zero, and concludes that adopting ABE in the IoT is indeed feasible
A HYBRIDIZED ENCRYPTION SCHEME BASED ON ELLIPTIC CURVE CRYPTOGRAPHY FOR SECURING DATA IN SMART HEALTHCARE
Recent developments in smart healthcare have brought us a great deal of convenience. Connecting common objects to the Internet is made possible by the Internet of Things (IoT). These connected gadgets have sensors and actuators for data collection and transfer. However, if users' private health information is compromised or exposed, it will seriously harm their privacy and may endanger their lives. In order to encrypt data and establish perfectly alright access control for such sensitive information, attribute-based encryption (ABE) has typically been used. Traditional ABE, however, has a high processing overhead. As a result, an effective security system algorithm based on ABE and Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) is developed to protect health-related data. ABE is a workable option for one-to-many communication and perfectly alright access management of encrypting data in a cloud environment. Without needing to decode the encrypted data, cloud servers can use the FHE algorithm to take valid actions on it. Because of its potential to provide excellent security with a tiny key size, elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) algorithm is also used. As a result, when compared to related existing methods in the literature, the suggested hybridized algorithm (ABE-FHE-ECC) has reduced computation and storage overheads. A comprehensive safety evidence clearly shows that the suggested method is protected by the Decisional Bilinear Diffie-Hellman postulate. The experimental results demonstrate that this system is more effective for devices with limited resources than the conventional ABE when the system’s performance is assessed by utilizing standard model
Coop-DAAB : cooperative attribute based data aggregation for Internet of Things applications
The deployment of IoT devices is gaining an expanding interest in our daily life. Indeed, IoT networks consist in interconnecting several smart and resource constrained devices to enable advanced services. Security management in IoT is a big challenge as personal data are shared by a huge number of distributed services and devices. In this paper, we propose a Cooperative Data Aggregation solution based on a novel use of Attribute Based signcryption scheme (Coop - DAAB). Coop - DAAB consists in distributing data signcryption operation between different participating entities (i.e., IoT devices). Indeed, each IoT device encrypts and signs in only one step the collected data with respect to a selected sub-predicate of a general access predicate before forwarding to an aggregating entity. This latter is able to aggregate and decrypt collected data if a sufficient number of IoT devices cooperates without learning any personal information about each participating device. Thanks to the use of an attribute based signcryption scheme, authenticity of data collected by IoT devices is proved while protecting them from any unauthorized access
SCTSC: A Semicentralized Traffic Signal Control Mode With Attribute-Based Blockchain in IoVs
This is the author accepted manuscript. The final version is available from IEEE via the DOI in this recordAssisting traffic control is one of the most important applications on the Internet of Vehicles (IoVs). Traffic information provided by vehicles is desired since drivers or vehicle sensors are sensitive in perceiving or detecting nuances on roads. However, the availability and privacy preservation of this information are critical while conflicted with each other in the vehicular communication. In this paper, we propose a semicentralized mode with attribute-based blockchain in IoVs to balance the tradeoff between the availability and the privacy preservation. In this mode, a method of control-by-vehicles is used to control signals of traffic lights to increase traffic efficiency. Users are grouped their attributes such as locations and directions before starting the communication. The users reach an agreement on determining a temporary signal timing by interacting with each other without leaking privacy. Final decisions are verifiable to all users, even if they have no a priori agreement and processes of consensus. The mode not only achieves the aim of privacy preservation but also supports responsibility investigation for historical agreements via ciphertext-policy attribute-based encryption (CP-ABE) and blockchain technology. Extensive experimental results demonstrated that our mode is efficient and practical.National Key R&D Program of ChinaNatural Science Foundation of ChinaFundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities of Chin
Fog based Secure Framework for Personal Health Records Systems
The rapid development of personal health records (PHR) systems enables an
individual to collect, create, store and share his PHR to authorized entities.
Health care systems within the smart city environment require a patient to
share his PRH data with a multitude of institutions' repositories located in
the cloud. The cloud computing paradigm cannot meet such a massive
transformative healthcare systems due to drawbacks including network latency,
scalability and bandwidth. Fog computing relieves the burden of conventional
cloud computing by availing intermediate fog nodes between the end users and
the remote servers. Aiming at a massive demand of PHR data within a ubiquitous
smart city, we propose a secure and fog assisted framework for PHR systems to
address security, access control and privacy concerns. Built under a fog-based
architecture, the proposed framework makes use of efficient key exchange
protocol coupled with ciphertext attribute based encryption (CP-ABE) to
guarantee confidentiality and fine-grained access control within the system
respectively. We also make use of digital signature combined with CP-ABE to
ensure the system authentication and users privacy. We provide the analysis of
the proposed framework in terms of security and performance.Comment: 12 pages (CMC Journal, Tech Science Press
Towards Cyber Security for Low-Carbon Transportation: Overview, Challenges and Future Directions
In recent years, low-carbon transportation has become an indispensable part
as sustainable development strategies of various countries, and plays a very
important responsibility in promoting low-carbon cities. However, the security
of low-carbon transportation has been threatened from various ways. For
example, denial of service attacks pose a great threat to the electric vehicles
and vehicle-to-grid networks. To minimize these threats, several methods have
been proposed to defense against them. Yet, these methods are only for certain
types of scenarios or attacks. Therefore, this review addresses security aspect
from holistic view, provides the overview, challenges and future directions of
cyber security technologies in low-carbon transportation. Firstly, based on the
concept and importance of low-carbon transportation, this review positions the
low-carbon transportation services. Then, with the perspective of network
architecture and communication mode, this review classifies its typical attack
risks. The corresponding defense technologies and relevant security suggestions
are further reviewed from perspective of data security, network management
security and network application security. Finally, in view of the long term
development of low-carbon transportation, future research directions have been
concerned.Comment: 34 pages, 6 figures, accepted by journal Renewable and Sustainable

A Comprehensive Study on Crypto-Algorithms
In the field of computer network and security, cryptography plays a vital role for secure data transmission as it follows the principle of data confidentiality, integrity, non-repudiation, authentication. By using several cryptographic algorithms, a user can deliver and receive the message in more convenient way. In this paper, we have collaborated on various cryptographic algorithms, several types of cryptographic techniques along with different types of security attacks prevailing in case of cryptography. During the exchanging of any sort of information, the key generation, encryption and decryption processes are examined in more details in the current paper. We have discussed regarding RSA (Ron Rives, Adi Shamir and Len Adelman), which is one of the most secure algorithm in the context of data and information sharing, that has been analysed clearly in our work along with the basic concepts of DES(Data Encryption Standard) , conventional encryption model, ECC(Elliptic curve cryptography), Digital signature, ABE(Attribute based Encryption), KP-ABE(Key policy Attribute based encryption), CP-ABE(Ciphertext policy attribute based encryption), IBE(Identity based Encryption). We have elaborated various cryptograhic concepts for keeping the message confidential and secure while considering secured data communication in case of networks
A Secure Integrated Framework for Fog-Assisted Internet of Things Systems
Fog-Assisted Internet of Things (Fog-IoT) systems are deployed in remote and unprotected environments, making them vulnerable to security, privacy, and trust challenges. Existing studies propose security schemes and trust models for these systems. However, mitigation of insider attacks, namely blackhole, sinkhole, sybil, collusion, self-promotion, and privilege escalation, has always been a challenge and mostly carried out by the legitimate nodes. Compared to other studies, this paper proposes a framework featuring attribute-based access control and trust-based behavioural monitoring to address the challenges mentioned above. The proposed framework consists of two components, the security component (SC) and the trust management component (TMC). SC ensures data confidentiality, integrity, authentication, and authorization. TMC evaluates Fog-IoT entities’ performance using a trust model based on a set of QoS and network communication features. Subsequently, trust is embedded as an attribute within SC’s access control policies, ensuring that only trusted entities are granted access to fog resources. Several attacking scenarios, namely DoS, DDoS, probing, and data theft are designed to elaborate on how the change in trust triggers the change in access rights and, therefore, validates the proposed integrated framework’s design principles. The framework is evaluated on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B to benchmark its performance in terms of time and memory complexity. Our results show that both SC and TMC are lightweight and suitable for resource-constrained devices
