Distributed System Contract Monitoring
The use of behavioural contracts, to specify, regulate and verify systems, is
particularly relevant to runtime monitoring of distributed systems. System
distribution poses major challenges to contract monitoring, from
monitoring-induced information leaks to computation load balancing,
communication overheads and fault-tolerance. We present mDPi, a location-aware
process calculus, for reasoning about monitoring of distributed systems. We
define a family of Labelled Transition Systems for this calculus, which allow
formal reasoning about different monitoring strategies at different levels of
abstractions. We also illustrate the expressivity of the calculus by showing
how contracts in a simple contract language can be synthesised into different

Perceived Parental Monitoring on Adolescence Premarital Sexual Behavior in Pontianak City, Indonesia
Inadaquate parental monitoring is widely recognized as a risk factor for the development of child and adolescent conduct problems, including early premarital sexual behavior. Previous studies examining parental monitoring have largely effect to adolescents premarital sexual behavior. Parental monitoring is the most important and effective factor to prevent early adolescents sexual activity. This paper examines the role of perceived parental monitoring in adolescent\u27s premarital sexual behavior (study on Adolescent\u27s Junior High School in Pontianak). A cross-sectional study and proportionated random sampling was conducted among 402 adolescents of junior high school at six subdistricts in Pontianak. SEM analyses was conducted using SMART-PLS. Result of path analysis revealed that parental knowledge (r = 0.389) and parental-adolescence relationship (r = 0.334) had a strong influence on parental monitoring. Then, parental monitoring had a significant indirect relationship with adolescent premarital sexual behavior through attitudes about premarital sexual (path coefficient = 0.063), and attitudes about premarital sexual and intention to sexual behaviour (path coefficient = 0.03). Parental monitoring can act as protective factor in early adolescent premarital sexual behavior. Therefore, risk reduction interventions with adolescents should include their parents to learn about monitoring skill and develop skill that will allow them to buffer negative influences
Teaching Big Brother to be a team player: Computer monitoring and quality
Computer monitoring should not be seen as a way of gathering information about workers, per se, but rather as one part of a production and quality strategy that provides needed information to a diverse team of workers. In its most powerful and effective form. computer monitoring is the use of computers to collect. process, and provide feedback information about work with the intent of improving performance and developing employees. Unfortunately, computer monitoring has also been used to punish employees. Here, a study of a successful computer monitoring system at Hughes Aircraft Company is described. The study shows that computer monitoring can facilitate integrated production and quality control strategies withouf negative effects on employee quality of work life. Managers who wish to design and effectively use computer monitoring systems should: (1) Use the monitoring system to provide feedback data to the workforce-not to gather social information (e.g., time taken for bathroom breaks): (2) Determine the type of data that employees believe will help them and be willing to adapt the system as they get ideas about how to use the data; (3) Design a system that gathers integrated data-data that will allow for useful comparisons between, as well as within, specific tasks; and (4) Realize that computer monitoring is only as noxious as the management system itself
A Survey About Nothing: Monitoring a Million Supergiants for Failed Supernovae
Extragalactic transient searches have historically been limited to looking
for the appearance of new sources such as supernovae. It is now possible to
carry out a new kind of survey that will do the opposite, that is, search for
the disappearance of massive stars. This will entail the systematic observation
of galaxies within a distance of 10 Mpc in order to watch ~10^6 supergiants.
Reaching this critical number ensures that something will occur yearly, since
these massive stars must end their lives with a core collapse within ~10^6
years. Using deep imaging and image subtraction it is possible to determine the
fates of these stars whether they end with a bang (supernova) or a whimper
(fall out of sight). Such a survey would place completely new limits on the
total rate of all core collapses, which is critical for determining the
validity of supernova models. It would also determine the properties of
supernova progenitors, better characterize poorly understood optical
transients, such as eta Carina-like mass ejections, find and characterize large
numbers of Cepheids, luminous blue variables and eclipsing binaries, and allow
the discovery of any new phenomena that inhabit this relatively unexplored

Adolescent beliefs about antisocial behavior : mediators and moderators of links with parental monitoring and attachment
The current study examined whether parental monitoring and attachment were related to
adolescent beliefs about antisocial acts, with temperament, gender, and age considered as
potential moderators. A total of 7135 adolescents, aged 14-18 years, completed selfreport
measures of antisocial beliefs, parental monitoring, attachment security, and
temperament. Results indicate that both attachment security and parental monitoring are
associated with adolescent beliefs about antisocial behaviour. It also appears that the two aspects of parenting are complementary, in that a secure attachment relationship is
associated with greater parental monitoring knowledge, which in turn is linked with a
lower tolerance for antisocial behaviour. However, the relations between these aspects of
parenting and beliefs about antisocial acts depended on the young people’s
characteristics, with some results varying by age, gender and temperament. Implications
for future research and parent-focused interventions to prevent antisocial beliefs and
behaviour are discussed.peer-reviewe
The Role of executive function in children\u27s source monitoring with varying retrieval strategies
Previous research on the relationship between executive function and source monitoring in young children has been inconclusive, with studies finding conflicting results about whether working memory and inhibitory control are related to source-monitoring ability. In this study, the role of working memory and inhibitory control in recognition memory and source monitoring with two different retrieval strategies were examined. Children (N = 263) aged 4–8 participated in science activities with two sources. They were later given a recognition and source-monitoring test, and completed measures of working memory and inhibitory control. During the source-monitoring test, half of the participants were asked about sources serially (one after the other) whereas the other half of the children were asked about sources in parallel (considering both sources simultaneously). Results demonstrated that working memory was a predictor of source-monitoring accuracy in both conditions, but inhibitory control was only related to source accuracy in the parallel condition. When age was controlled these relationships were no longer significant, suggesting that a more general cognitive development factor is a stronger predictor of source monitoring than executive function alone. Interestingly, the children aged 4–6 years made more accurate source decisions in the parallel condition than in the serial condition. The older children (aged 7–8) were overall more accurate than the younger children, and their accuracy did not differ as a function of interview condition. Suggestions are provided to guide further research in this area that will clarify the diverse results of previous studies examining whether executive function is a cognitive prerequisite for effective source monitoring
Identifying harmonic attributes from online partial discharge data
Partial discharge (PD) monitoring is a key method of tracking fault progression and degradation of insulation systems. Recent research discovered that the harmonic regime experienced by the plant also affects the PD pattern, questioning the conclusions about equipment health drawn from PD data. This paper presents the design and creation of an online system for harmonic circumstance monitoring of distribution cables, using only PD data. Based on machine learning techniques, the system can assess the prevalence of the 5th and 7th harmonic orders over the monitoring period. This information is key for asset managers to draw correct conclusions about the remaining life of polymeric cable insulation, and prevent overestimation of the degradation trend
SIMULATION STUDY ON WATERFLOOD FRONT: BLOCK HADE OF TARIM OILFIELD IN NORTHWEST CHINA
Block Hade consist of a deep thin sandstone reservoir of two sub-layer reservoirs. The thickness is
about 1.5 m for each layer. The two-layer “staircase” horizontal well is used for recovery. In order
to determine water displacement front and edge water movement, tracer test is conducted in the
reservoir. But the cycle of field tracer monitoring is about 150-360 days. This prevented the efficient
monitoring of waterflood swept area and waterflood advance direction and velocity, after the cycle
of tracer monitoring. Conservation of mass with respect to tracer flow and history performance
matching of tracer enabled the study of water-flood front and edge-water advance. The simulation result
is basically consistent with the monitored field tracer results. Therefore, numerical model can be used to
conduct a longer monitoring period. It can make up for the disadvantage of the complexity of the
tracer monitoring setup, its implementation, and time-consuming monitoring cycle. The water-flood
front, water-flood swept area, advancing velocity and the predominant water injection direction can be
obtained. Furthermore, it is possible to evaluate and predict the injection-production well interaction and
can also provide a reliable basis to deploy reasonable flood patterns to enhance oil recovery
