    Get PDF
Induction Motors (IMs) are now becoming the pillar of almost all the motoring applications related to the industry and household. The practical applications of IMs usually require constant motoring speed. As a result, different types of control systems for IM's speed controlling have been shaped. One of the important techniques is the utilization of thyristor fed drive. Although, the thyristor fed induction motor drive (TFIMD) offers stable speed performance, the practical speed control demand is much more precise. Hence, this drive system utilizes additional controllers to attain precise speed for practical applications. This paper offers a detailed review of the controllers utilized with the thyristor fed IM drive in the past few decades to achieve good speed control performance. The clear intent of the paper is to provide a comprehensible frame of the pros and cons of the existing controllers developed for the TFIMD speed control requirements. New commercial power electronic controllers come to the market almost every day to help improve electronic circuit and system performance and efficiency. In DC–DC switching-mode converters, a simple and elegant hysteretic controller is used to regulate the basic buck, boost and buck–boost converters under slightly different configurations. In AC–DC converters, the input current shaping for power factor correction posts a constraint. But, several brilliant commercial controllers are demonstrated for boost and fly back converters to achieve almost perfect power factor correction. In this paper a comprehensive review of the various advanced optimization techniques used in power electronic controllers is presented

This paper is a strive approach to design offgrid solar system in association with DC-DC boost converter and MPPT. The tuned PID based MPPT technique is adopted to extract maximum power from the solar system under certain circumstances (temperature and irradiance). The design parameters of PID controller play an imperative aspect to enhance the performance of the system. Ant lion Optimizer (ALO) algorithm is adopted to optimize PID parameters to contribute relevant duty cycle for DC-DC boost converter to maximize output power and voltage. P and O based MPPT technique is implemented to validate the supremacy of PID based MPPT to enhance the response of the system. In this paper, the proposed ALO optimized PID controller based MPPT technique is performed better over conventional P & O technique by conceding the oscillation, time response, settling time and maximum values of voltage, current and power of the solar system.Citation: SAHU, R. There is considerable increase in residential solar grid connected installations with many advantages offered by solar energy. As more solar panels are connected to grid, the Solar Inverter between solar panels and grid have to perform at optimum levels. Modern Inverters consist of DC-DC Converter and DC-AC Inverter. One problem associated with Inverter design is voltage fluctuation, this defect lies in the DC-DC converter Maximum power tracking (MPPT) algorithms responsible for extracting maximum power from the solar panels. The defect is due to large sampling number required for conventional MPPT algorithm. This thesis has proposed a new MPPT algorithm based on Mamdani Fuzzy logic. In research we use 5 parameter one diode model for solar cell modelling. The P-V/I-V characteristics curve is generated. The P-V characteristics curves sectioned and input membership and output membership functions is created. And unique fuzzy rules is used to optimize fuzzy controller output. Mamdani Fuzzy logic algorithm is compared to traditional PI controller hill climbing method. When small sampling number is used hill climbing method response is slow and good at tracking. When big sampling number is used hill climbing method response is fast and not good at tracking. The voltage also fluctuates when sampling number is big. Fuzzy logic provides a compromised solution with best response time and moderate tracking accuracy compared to hill climbing method. Fuzzy Logic based DC-DC converter together with PLL and Recursive Discrete Fourier Transform (RDFT) DC-AC inverter synchronization algorithm is employed and simulated in matlab. The MPPT simulation is conducted for a realistic 2.5KW solar panels in a 8 x 2 Matrix. In addition the MPPT algorithm is analyzed to see if it performs under power quality and voltage level tolerance of utility grid requirements. The Fuzzy Logic MPPT is excellent at tracking power. When temperature is fixed and irradiance is varied, the maximum tracking error is 5.2% in all scenarios with one exception. When irradiance is fixed and temperature varied, the maximum tracking error is 1.98%. Furthermore the Fuzzy Logic MPPT meets the power quality and voltage level tolerance requirements of utility grid for irradiance over 600 W/m2. Power quality and voltage level tolerance requirements for irradiance under 600 W/m2 is not critical as this is outside twilight conditions. Out of all the Synchronization algorithm identified in this Thesis, RDFT achieves synchronization very quickly and in addition it suppresses harmonics and noise. The possibility of future study to extend MPPT is also briefly discussed. The extension of future study is using Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy logic. Takagi-Sugeno uses more sophisticated inference and rule evaluation mathematics

Toward Enhanced State of Charge Estimation of Lithium-ion Batteries Using Optimized Machine Learning Techniques.

State of charge (SOC) is a crucial index used in the assessment of electric vehicle (EV) battery storage systems. Thus, SOC estimation of lithium-ion batteries has been widely investigated because of their fast charging, long-life cycle, and high energy density characteristics. However, precise SOC assessment of lithium-ion batteries remains challenging because of their varying characteristics under different working environments. Machine learning techniques have been widely used to design an advanced SOC estimation method without the information of battery chemical reactions, battery models, internal properties, and additional filters. Here, the capacity of optimized machine learning techniques are presented toward enhanced SOC estimation in terms of learning capability, accuracy, generalization performance, and convergence speed. We validate the proposed method through lithium-ion battery experiments, EV drive cycles, temperature, noise, and aging effects. We show that the proposed method outperforms several state-of-the-art approaches in terms of accuracy, adaptability, and robustness under diverse operating conditions

The scope of Session 2 (S2) has been defined as follows by the Session Advisory Group and the Technical Committee: Power Quality (PQ), with the more general concept of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and with some related safety problems in electricity distribution systems. Special focus is put on voltage continuity (supply reliability, problem of outages) and voltage quality (voltage level, flicker, unbalance, harmonics). This session will also look at electromagnetic compatibility (mains frequency to 150 kHz), electromagnetic interferences and electric and magnetic fields issues. Also addressed in this session are electrical safety and immunity concerns (lightning issues, step, touch and transferred voltages). The aim of this special report is to present a synthesis of the present concerns in PQ&EMC, based on all selected papers of session 2 and related papers from other sessions, (152 papers in total). The report is divided in the following 4 blocks: Block 1: Electric and Magnetic Fields, EMC, Earthing systems Block 2: Harmonics Block 3: Voltage Variation Block 4: Power Quality Monitoring Two Round Tables will be organised: - Power quality and EMC in the Future Grid (CIGRE/CIRED WG C4.24, RT 13) - Reliability Benchmarking - why we should do it? Abstract:-Multi level inverters are used now a days at large, because they have lesser harmonics  than single level inverter. Several methodologies  have been worked out  in order  to reduce the harmonics. It has been proved that  the soft computing algorithms based switching angle calculation are more efficient than the conventional methods. In this paper  a 7 level inverter has been used  for DC to AC conversion.A new nature inspired Goat algorithm has been proposed  in this paper. This algorithm has been applied  for  a single phase  seven level inverter first. This algorithm has been tested by writing proper code  in MATLAB-Mfile and it has been found that it consumes  less computational time than the other  algorithms since several goats explore solution space at a time. The results show  that the  harmonics obtained from inverter using the switching angles calculated from the algorithm are very much reduced and THD  is almost around 12%.Key Words-7 level inverter, Goat algorithm, Switching angle ,Total harmonic distortio
