Big Data Privacy Context: Literature Effects On Secure Informational Assets
This article's objective is the identification of research opportunities in
the current big data privacy domain, evaluating literature effects on secure
informational assets. Until now, no study has analyzed such relation. Its
results can foster science, technologies and businesses. To achieve these
objectives, a big data privacy Systematic Literature Review (SLR) is performed
on the main scientific peer reviewed journals in Scopus database. Bibliometrics
and text mining analysis complement the SLR. This study provides support to big
data privacy researchers on: most and least researched themes, research
novelty, most cited works and authors, themes evolution through time and many
others. In addition, TOPSIS and VIKOR ranks were developed to evaluate
literature effects versus informational assets indicators. Secure Internet
Servers (SIS) was chosen as decision criteria. Results show that big data
privacy literature is strongly focused on computational aspects. However,
individuals, societies, organizations and governments face a technological
change that has just started to be investigated, with growing concerns on law
and regulation aspects. TOPSIS and VIKOR Ranks differed in several positions
and the only consistent country between literature and SIS adoption is the
United States. Countries in the lowest ranking positions represent future

Location privacy online:China, the Netherlands and South Korea
The aim of the study is to explore cross-cultural differences in users’ location privacy behaviour on LBSNs (location-based social networks) in China, the Netherlands and Korea. The study suggests evidence that Chinese, Dutch and Korean users exhibit different location privacy concerns, attitudes to social influence, perceived privacy control and willingness to share location-related information on LBSNs. The results show that in general, the more concerned users are about location privacy, the less they are willing to share and it also suggests that location privacy concern and social influence affect each other. Furthermore, the more control people perceive they have over their privacy, the more they are willing to share location information. A negative relationship between willingness to share location information and users’ actual sharing of location information was seen. In short, it is concluded that the relation between cultural values and location privacy behaviours only have a partial connection
The United Nation data governance: a panopticon and a catalyst for cooperation
With the rapid advancement of technology and digitalization, the collection, String, processing through machine learning and deep learning, trading of data has become widespread. However, because data privacy laws vary greatly from one jurisdiction to the next, personal information is not consistently secured. For people, corporations, and governments, this lack of harmonization creates challenges in a world that is ever more interconnected. This study looks into the viability of establishing a global data privacy body, specifically as a UN agency. By serving as the global regulatory authority for data privacy, a global data privacy organization can aid in the resolution of these issues. We examine some of these institution's possible benefits in this study, including enhanced privacy protection, safer data storage, and easier international data transfers. Additionally, it covers the obstacles that can develop when establishing an international organization and provides answers to those issues. By utilizing the expertise and resources of the United Nations, an international data privacy body can assist in making sure that data protection rules remain current with technological advancements. Additionally, it can contribute to increasing transparency and accountability in the digital economy, which is advantageous for both governments and enterprises.
To further the International Data Governance, establishment of a UN agency to address data privacy, cross border data transfer and global data governance issues is speculative from history, as happened in the development of IPR as important field in International Law WIPO was established. The adoption of a brand-new, comprehensive international data privacy policy is not required to happen (at least not right away) when a global organization is established. By harnessing the knowledge and resources of the United Nations, an international data privacy agency can ensure that data protection laws keep up with technological advancements and foster trust and responsibility in the digital ecosystem. The challenges brought on by the Collection, processing, analysis and transfer of stored data in different geographical locations, gives call for Data Globalization & Data Sovereignty Debate, therefore by establishing an institution by United Nations dedicated to promoting data privacy & related issues will act as a panopticon for State & Non-State actors

Data standardization
With data rapidly becoming the lifeblood of the global economy, the ability to improve its use significantly affects both social and private welfare. Data standardization is key to facilitating and improving the use of data when data portability and interoperability are needed. Absent data standardization, a “Tower of Babel” of different databases may be created, limiting synergetic knowledge production. Based on interviews with data scientists, this Article identifies three main technological obstacles to data portability and interoperability: metadata uncertainties, data transfer obstacles, and missing data. It then explains how data standardization can remove at least some of these obstacles and lead to smoother data flows and better machine learning. The Article then identifies and analyzes additional effects of data standardization. As shown, data standardization has the potential to support a competitive and distributed data collection ecosystem and lead to easier policing in cases where rights are infringed or unjustified harms are created by data-fed algorithms. At the same time, increasing the scale and scope of data analysis can create negative externalities in the form of better profiling, increased harms to privacy, and cybersecurity harms. Standardization also has implications for investment and innovation, especially if lock-in to an inefficient standard occurs. The Article then explores whether market-led standardization initiatives can be relied upon to increase welfare, and the role governmental-facilitated data standardization should play, if at all
Cultural differences in social media use, privacy, and self-disclosure : research report on a multicultural study
This research report presents comparative results from five nations (United States of America, United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, and China) with regard to social media use, self-disclosure, privacy perceptions and attitudes, and privacy behavior in online environments. The data stemmed from an online survey that was conducted from November, 2011, to December, 2011. Across all five nations, N = 1,800 participants completed the survey.
The findings suggest that a broad differentiation between Western and Eastern cultures only partly accounted for differences in social media use and privacy behavior. Rather, the results of this report suggest that European countries (United Kingdom, Germany, and the Netherlands) share similar privacy perceptions and show similar behavioral patterns. Non-European cultures (the USA and China) on the other hand, use social media differently. Participants from European countries had generally smaller audiences on social network sites and microblogging platforms, tended to limit the visibility of their postings and profile information more, and used more privacy settings to safeguard their privacy. In particular, German social media users seemed to be guarded, protective, and rather reluctant to participate in online communication. Users from the US, on the other hand, rated privacy-related behavior as less risky and were hence less likely to imply sophisticated privacy strategies.
Apart from these findings, the report also shows that there are more commonalities than differences. People from all five countries think that it is important to protect privacy. Most users consciously decides what to share and what not to share. Accordingly, social media users do not always share intimate and detailed information about their lives
Measuring internet activity: a (selective) review of methods and metrics
Two Decades after the birth of the World Wide Web, more than two billion people around the world are Internet users. The digital landscape is littered with hints that the affordances of digital communications are being leveraged to transform life in profound and important ways. The reach and influence of digitally mediated activity grow by the day and touch upon all aspects of life, from health, education, and commerce to religion and governance. This trend demands that we seek answers to the biggest questions about how digitally mediated communication changes society and the role of different policies in helping or hindering the beneficial aspects of these changes. Yet despite the profusion of data the digital age has brought upon us—we now have access to a flood of information about the movements, relationships, purchasing decisions, interests, and intimate thoughts of people around the world—the distance between the great questions of the digital age and our understanding of the impact of digital communications on society remains large. A number of ongoing policy questions have emerged that beg for better empirical data and analyses upon which to base wider and more insightful perspectives on the mechanics of social, economic, and political life online. This paper seeks to describe the conceptual and practical impediments to measuring and understanding digital activity and highlights a sample of the many efforts to fill the gap between our incomplete understanding of digital life and the formidable policy questions related to developing a vibrant and healthy Internet that serves the public interest and contributes to human wellbeing. Our primary focus is on efforts to measure Internet activity, as we believe obtaining robust, accurate data is a necessary and valuable first step that will lead us closer to answering the vitally important questions of the digital realm. Even this step is challenging: the Internet is difficult to measure and monitor, and there is no simple aggregate measure of Internet activity—no GDP, no HDI. In the following section we present a framework for assessing efforts to document digital activity. The next three sections offer a summary and description of many of the ongoing projects that document digital activity, with two final sections devoted to discussion and conclusions
