International Conference on Computer Science and Communication Engineering
UBT Annual International Conference is the 8th international interdisciplinary peer reviewed conference which publishes works of the scientists as well as practitioners in the area where UBT is active in Education, Research and Development. The UBT aims to implement an integrated strategy to establish itself as an internationally competitive, research-intensive university, committed to the transfer of knowledge and the provision of a world-class education to the most talented students from all background. From Attack to Defense: Building Systems Secure against Breached Credentials
213 pagesTargeted attacks using breached credentials exploit the fact that users reuse some semantic or syntactic structure of passwords across websites to make them easy to remember. The adversary tries to log in to a victimâs account using thestolen passwords or variants of these passwords. Protecting accounts from these attacks remains challenging. Adversaries have wide-scale access to billions of stolen credentials from breach compilations, while users and identity providers remain in the dark about which accounts require attention. Our contribution is to show that it is possible to build a large-scale system that allows users to check for vulnerabilities against these attacks without sacrificing the functionality, security, and performance properties. We initiate the work by addressing the core challenge â modeling how humans choose similar passwords. We train models using modern machine learning techniques and exhibit its efficacy by simulating the most damaging attack to date. Then we formalize the security goals for existing breach checking services that warn if the exact credential is publicly exposed. In the process we also propose novel exact-checking protocols with better security guarantees. All this helps educate the design of the second-generation, similarity-aware, and privacy-preserving credential checking service â Might I get Pwned (MIGP). Finally, we collaborate with Cloudflare to deploy MIGP as part of the web application firewall to notify login servers about potential attacks
How WEIRD is Usable Privacy and Security Research? (Extended Version)
In human factor fields such as human-computer interaction (HCI) and
psychology, researchers have been concerned that participants mostly come from
WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic) countries. This
WEIRD skew may hinder understanding of diverse populations and their cultural
differences. The usable privacy and security (UPS) field has inherited many
research methodologies from research on human factor fields. We conducted a
literature review to understand the extent to which participant samples in UPS
papers were from WEIRD countries and the characteristics of the methodologies
and research topics in each user study recruiting Western or non-Western
participants. We found that the skew toward WEIRD countries in UPS is greater
than that in HCI. Geographic and linguistic barriers in the study methods and
recruitment methods may cause researchers to conduct user studies locally. In
addition, many papers did not report participant demographics, which could
hinder the replication of the reported studies, leading to low reproducibility.
To improve geographic diversity, we provide the suggestions including
facilitate replication studies, address geographic and linguistic issues of
study/recruitment methods, and facilitate research on the topics for non-WEIRD

Electronic Voting: 6th International Joint Conference, E-Vote-ID 2021, Virtual Event, October 5â8, 2021: proceedings
This volume contains the papers presented at E-Vote-ID 2021, the Sixth International
Joint Conference on Electronic Voting, held during October 5â8, 2021. Due to the
extraordinary situation brought about by the COVID-19, the conference was held
online for the second consecutive edition, instead of in the traditional venue in
Bregenz, Austria. The E-Vote-ID conference is the result of the merger of the EVOTE
and Vote-ID conferences, with first EVOTE conference taking place 17 years ago in
Austria. Since that conference in 2004, over 1000 experts have attended the venue,
including scholars, practitioners, authorities, electoral managers, vendors, and PhD
students. The conference focuses on the most relevant debates on the development of
electronic voting, from aspects relating to security and usability through to practical
experiences and applications of voting systems, also including legal, social, or political
aspects, amongst others, and has turned out to be an important global referent in
relation to this issue

E-Vote-ID Conference resulted from the merging of EVOTE and Vote-ID and counting up to 17 years since the _rst E-Vote conference in Austria. E-VOTE-ID 2021 received 49 submissions, being, each of them, reviewed by 3 to 5 program committee members, using a double blind review process. As a result, 27 papers were accepted for its presentation in the conference. The selected papers cover a wide range of topics connected with electronic voting, including experiences and revisions of the real uses of E-voting systems and corresponding processes in elections.

Research concepts pertaining to a software (workstation) executive which will support a distributed processing command and control system characterized by high-performance graphics workstations used as computing nodes are presented. Although a workstation-based distributed processing environment offers many advantages, it also introduces a number of new concerns. In order to solve these problems, allow the environment to function as an integrated system, and present a functional development environment to application programmers, it is necessary to develop an additional layer of software. This 'executive' software integrates the system, provides real-time capabilities, and provides the tools necessary to support the application requirements
