    Investigation of eGovernment Services and Alignment between Business and Information Systems

    Inhabitant’s implementation of eGovernment services is a key objective for the Government of developed and developing countries. However, to improve the eGovernment services it is important for any Government to align all stakeholders so that the needs of citizens can be examined and addressed. This paper proposed a framework of an ideal pattern of alignment for the Government of Saudi Arabia. The framework has been validated empirically and the result indicates that the Government of Saudi Arabia is spending a huge amount of budget to improve the Government services, but still many services are slow and are not as per expectations. Therefore, citizens of KSA recommended alignment between eGovernment agencies and IS department.Final Accepted Versio

The process of alignment plays a key role in the construction of dependent associations among individuals from two different groups, and the progress of alignment could be enhanced by emerging an information system according to the investors’ prospects. The chapter presents system theory to gather and analyze the data across the designated platforms.     Adopted topic modeling for business process and software component conformity checking

    Business processes and software components, especially class diagrams, have a firm connection. Considering software components support the business process in providing an excellent product and service. Besides, business process changes affect on software component design. One of them usually appears on the label or name of the software component or business process. Sometimes, a related business process and software component appears in the different label but the same meaning rather than using the same label. This situation is problematic when there are many changes to be made, in which the software component's modifying process becomes quite long. Therefore, the software maintainers should obtain an efficient procedure to shorten the modifying process. One solution is by using conformity checking, which helps the software maintainers know which software component is related to a specific business process. This paper compared two leading topic modeling techniques, namely probabilistic latent semantic analysis (PLSA) and latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA), to determine which one has a better performancefor process traceability

    Using full range leadership model and the knowledge-based view of organizations, we develop and test a model linking Information Technology (IT) leadership to IT-business alignment. Specifically, we examine how transformational IT leadership behaviors influence IT-business alignment through mechanisms that develop shared domain knowledge between IT and business personnel and mechanisms that integrate specialized IT and business knowledge. We also examine how the former mechanisms influence the efficiency of the latter. This study contributes to the existing literature by suggesting transformational leadership and mechanisms related to knowledge integration as key factors in IT-business alignment

    BUSINESS-IT ALIGNMENT, THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES

    Business and IT alignment continues to be a challenge for business which seek to maximise value of and from the IT function. Research has covered the wider Business-IT alignment points from mainly a macro-level viewpoint, such as, structural, dynamic and functional alignment. However, both research and practice still consider Business and IT alignment to be a challenge. In this research, we seek to uncover part of the reasons why Business and IT alignment is challenging to organisations. We note the factors in the literature which emphasise Business-IT alignment, such as, shared understanding, communication, management commitment, IT investment evaluation, innovation and rewards, strategic planning of IS, and strategic agility. The results of this study show that even if organisations address these alignment factors, IT projects could still end up failing. We also note the opposing misalignment factors in practice, such as, human tensions and strained work relationships, knowledge silos, self-centred management, technology does not matter, organisational change resistance, technology as a burden, and resources inflexibility. We conclude that organisations need to address both alignment and misalignment factors

    There are several models about the development of a successful Information Systems Planning process, while very little research has focused on the contribution of the Strategic Information Systems Planning (SISP) process to firm performance. The assessment of the process is a decision problem and managers should evaluate alternatives so that it could be solved. Both executives and researchers need to be aware of how the alignment of business and IS strategies impact firm performance. The purpose of this paper is to propose a conceptual model of the determinants of the SISP process and success in Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to assess the contribution of these two variables to firm performance. Understanding those phases may help IS executives concentrate their efforts on organizations’ objectives and recognize the greatest value of the planning process in their firms. This paper contributes to IS executives in Greek SMEs who do not concentrate on strategic planning during the development of IS and they focus only on the technical issues. As a result, they should understand the significance of the SISP process in order to formulate and implement IS strategy which will be aligned with business objectives and increase the success of SMEs

    This thesis addresses the importance of Business-IT alignment in higher education institutions. Business-IT alignment is defined as applying IT in a suitable and timely manner, in harmony with business strategies, goals and needs. Business- IT alignment is an ultimate goal of governmental and non-governmental organizations that requires close attention and continuous monitoring. UAE university has a well-defined business strategy augmented with a well-defined IT strategy. So, to get the most benefits of acquiring and using IT in the university, the IT need to be aligned with the core business and the supporting services. The main objective of this thesis is to review the literature concerning the Business–IT alignment topic with focus on higher education institutions and explore different Business–IT alignment frameworks. Also, to define the as-is enterprise architecture of the UAEU using SAMM (Strategic Alignment Maturity Model) by Luftman. This model is used to measure the Business-IT Alignment level of the university. The Business-IT alignment of the as-is architecture will be assessed then the assessment results will be analyzed and draw conclusions. Also, suggestions for improvements are put forward, based on the results. Finally, in the last chapter, implications and limitations of this thesis are discussed and suggestions for other and/or further research are made
