Always Finite Entropy and Lyapunov exponents of two-dimensional cellular automata
Given a new definition for the entropy of a cellular automata acting on a
two-dimensional space, we propose an inequality between the entropy of the
shift on a two-dimensional lattice and some angular analog of Lyapunov
exponents.Comment: 20 Fevrier 200
Cellular automata on regular rooted trees
We study cellular automata on regular rooted trees. This includes the
characterization of sofic tree shifts in terms of unrestricted Rabin automata
and the decidability of the surjectivity problem for cellular automata between
sofic tree shifts
Entropy rate of higher-dimensional cellular automata
We introduce the entropy rate of multidimensional cellular automata. This
number is invariant under shift-commuting isomorphisms; as opposed to the
entropy of such CA, it is always finite. The invariance property and the
finiteness of the entropy rate result from basic results about the entropy of
partitions of multidimensional cellular automata. We prove several results that
show that entropy rate of 2-dimensional automata preserve similar properties of
the entropy of one dimensional cellular automata.
In particular we establish an inequality which involves the entropy rate, the
radius of the cellular automaton and the entropy of the d-dimensional shift. We
also compute the entropy rate of permutative bi-dimensional cellular automata
and show that the finite value of the entropy rate (like the standard entropy
of for one-dimensional CA) depends on the number of permutative sites.
Finally we define the topological entropy rate and prove that it is an
invariant for topological shift-commuting conjugacy and establish some
relations between topological and measure-theoretic entropy rates
Topological properties of cellular automata on trees
We prove that there do not exist positively expansive cellular automata
defined on the full k-ary tree shift (for k>=2). Moreover, we investigate some
topological properties of these automata and their relationships, namely
permutivity, surjectivity, preinjectivity, right-closingness and openness.Comment: In Proceedings AUTOMATA&JAC 2012, arXiv:1208.249
On equivalence, languages equivalence and minimization of multi-letter and multi-letter measure-many quantum automata
We first show that given a -letter quantum finite automata
and a -letter quantum finite automata over
the same input alphabet , they are equivalent if and only if they are
-equivalent where , , are the
numbers of state in respectively, and . By
applying a method, due to the author, used to deal with the equivalence problem
of {\it measure many one-way quantum finite automata}, we also show that a
-letter measure many quantum finite automaton and a
-letter measure many quantum finite automaton are
equivalent if and only if they are -equivalent
where , , are the numbers of state in respectively,
and .
Next, we study the language equivalence problem of those two kinds of quantum
finite automata. We show that for -letter quantum finite automata, the
non-strict cut-point language equivalence problem is undecidable, i.e., it is
undecidable whether
where
and are -letter quantum finite automata.
Further, we show that both strict and non-strict cut-point language equivalence
problem for -letter measure many quantum finite automata are undecidable.
The direct consequences of the above outcomes are summarized in the paper.
Finally, we comment on existing proofs about the minimization problem of one
way quantum finite automata not only because we have been showing great
interest in this kind of problem, which is very important in classical automata
theory, but also due to that the problem itself, personally, is a challenge.
This problem actually remains open.Comment: 30 pages, conclusion section correcte
Undecidable properties of self-affine sets and multi-tape automata
We study the decidability of the topological properties of some objects
coming from fractal geometry. We prove that having empty interior is
undecidable for the sets defined by two-dimensional graph-directed iterated
function systems. These results are obtained by studying a particular class of
self-affine sets associated with multi-tape automata. We first establish the
undecidability of some language-theoretical properties of such automata, which
then translate into undecidability results about their associated self-affine
sets.Comment: 10 pages, v2 includes some corrections to match the published versio
Upper Bound on the Products of Particle Interactions in Cellular Automata
Particle-like objects are observed to propagate and interact in many
spatially extended dynamical systems. For one of the simplest classes of such
systems, one-dimensional cellular automata, we establish a rigorous upper bound
on the number of distinct products that these interactions can generate. The
upper bound is controlled by the structural complexity of the interacting
particles---a quantity which is defined here and which measures the amount of
spatio-temporal information that a particle stores. Along the way we establish
a number of properties of domains and particles that follow from the
computational mechanics analysis of cellular automata; thereby elucidating why
that approach is of general utility. The upper bound is tested against several
relatively complex domain-particle cellular automata and found to be tight.Comment: 17 pages, 12 figures, 3 tables,

Kleene Algebras and Semimodules for Energy Problems
With the purpose of unifying a number of approaches to energy problems found
in the literature, we introduce generalized energy automata. These are finite
automata whose edges are labeled with energy functions that define how energy
levels evolve during transitions. Uncovering a close connection between energy
problems and reachability and B\"uchi acceptance for semiring-weighted
automata, we show that these generalized energy problems are decidable. We also
provide complexity results for important special cases
