    Towards automatic control for microfactories.

    International audienceMicrofactories are new specific and flexible systems to produce and assemble micrometric products. These systems are different of standard production platforms because they are confronted with a lot of constraints without influence at human-scale systems. This approach will lead to the development of an architecture of the technical information system adapted to a modular, reconfigurable and evolutionary microfactory. In such a context of production of microproducts, the technical information system is the spinal cord of the microfactory. The definition of the data, their architecture and their organization will build up the base of the control structure. To efficiently and surely control the set of cells, the traditional control scheme must be integrated in a global information model.     Towards a cyber physical system for personalised and automatic OSA treatment

    Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a breathing disorder that takes place in the course of the sleep and is produced by a complete or a partial obstruction of the upper airway that manifests itself as frequent breathing stops and starts during the sleep. The real-time evaluation of whether or not a patient is undergoing OSA episode is a very important task in medicine in many scenarios, as for example for making instantaneous pressure adjustments that should take place when Automatic Positive Airway Pressure (APAP) devices are used during the treatment of OSA. In this paper the design of a possible Cyber Physical System (CPS) suited to real-time monitoring of OSA is described, and its software architecture and possible hardware sensing components are detailed. It should be emphasized here that this paper does not deal with a full CPS, rather with a software part of it under a set of assumptions on the environment. The paper also reports some preliminary experiments about the cognitive and learning capabilities of the designed CPS involving its use on a publicly available sleep apnea database

    Proposal of a health care network based on big data analytics for PDs

    Health care networks for Parkinson's disease (PD) already exist and have been already proposed in the literature, but most of them are not able to analyse the vast volume of data generated from medical examinations and collected and organised in a pre-defined manner. In this work, the authors propose a novel health care network based on big data analytics for PD. The main goal of the proposed architecture is to support clinicians in the objective assessment of the typical PD motor issues and alterations. The proposed health care network has the ability to retrieve a vast volume of acquired heterogeneous data from a Data warehouse and train an ensemble SVM to classify and rate the motor severity of a PD patient. Once the network is trained, it will be able to analyse the data collected during motor examinations of a PD patient and generate a diagnostic report on the basis of the previously acquired knowledge. Such a diagnostic report represents a tool both to monitor the follow up of the disease for each patient and give robust advice about the severity of the disease to clinicians

    HW/SW Architecture Exploration for an Efficient Implementation of the Secure Hash Algorithm SHA-256

    Hash functions are used in the majority of security protocol to guarantee the integrity and the authenticity. Among the most important hash functions is the SHA-2 family, which offers higher security and solved the insecurity problems of other popular algorithms as MD5, SHA-1 and SHA-0. However, theses security algorithms are characterized by a certain amount of complex computations and consume a lot of energy. In order to reduce the power consumption as required in the majority of embedded applications, a solution consists to exploit a critical part on accelerator (hardware). In this paper, we propose a hardware/software exploration for the implementation of SHA256 algorithm. For hardware design, two principal design methods are proceeded: Low level synthesis (LLS) and high level synthesis (HLS). The exploration allows the evaluation of performances in term of area, throughput and power consumption. The synthesis results under Zynq 7000 based-FPGA reflect a significant improvement of about 80% and 15% respectively in FPGA resources and throughput for the LLS hardware design compared to HLS solution. For better efficiency, hardware IPs are deduced and implemented within HW/SW system on chip. The experiments are performed using Xilinx ZC 702-based platform. The HW/SW LLS design records a gain of 10% to 25% in term of execution time and 73% in term of power consumption

    Flip chip packaging of digital silicon photonics MEMS Switch for cloud computing and data centre

    We report on the flip chip packaging of Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS)-based digital silicon photonic switching device and the characterization results of 12 × 12 switching ports. The challenges in packaging N2 electrical and 2N optical interconnections are addressed with single-layer electrical redistribution lines of 25 µm line width and space on aluminum nitride interposer and 13° polished 64-channel lidless fiber array (FA) with a pitch of 127 µm. 50 µm diameter solder spheres are laser-jetted onto the electrical bond pads surrounded by suspended MEMS actuators on the device before fluxless flip-chip bonding. A lidless FA is finally coupled near-vertically onto the device gratings using a 6-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) alignment system. Fiber-to-grating coupler loss of 4.25 dB/facet, 10–11 bit error rate (BER) through the longest optical path, and 0.4 µs switch reconfiguration time have been demonstrated using 10 Gb/s Ethernet data stream
