Tools for Assessing Climate Impacts on Fish and Wildlife
Climate change is already affecting many fish and wildlife populations. Managing these populations requires an understanding of the nature, magnitude, and distribution of current and future climate impacts. Scientists and managers have at their disposal a wide array of models for projecting climate impacts that can be used to build such an understanding. Here, we provide a broad overview of the types of models available for forecasting the effects of climate change on key processes that affect fish and wildlife habitat (hydrology, fire, and vegetation), as well as on individual species distributions and populations. We present a framework for how climate-impacts modeling can be used to address management concerns, providing examples of model-based assessments of climate impacts on salmon populations in the Pacific Northwest, fire regimes in the boreal region of Canada, prairies and savannas in the Willamette Valley-Puget Sound Trough-Georgia Basin ecoregion, and marten Martes americana populations in the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada. We also highlight some key limitations of these models and discuss how such limitations should be managed. We conclude with a general discussion of how these models can be integrated into fish and wildlife management
From supply chains to demand networks. Agents in retailing: the electrical bazaar
A paradigm shift is taking place in logistics. The focus is changing from operational effectiveness to adaptation. Supply Chains will develop into networks that will adapt to consumer demand in almost real time. Time to market, capacity of adaptation and enrichment of customer experience seem to be the key elements of this new paradigm. In this environment emerging technologies like RFID (Radio Frequency ID), Intelligent Products and the Internet, are triggering a reconsideration of methods, procedures and goals. We present a Multiagent System framework specialized in retail that addresses these changes with the use of rational agents and takes advantages of the new market opportunities. Like in an old bazaar, agents able to learn, cooperate, take advantage of gossip and distinguish between collaborators and competitors, have the ability to adapt, learn and react to a changing environment better than any other structure. Designing Enterprise Resources Planning Application for Integrating Main Activities in a Simulator Model of SCM Network Distribution
Collaborative supply chain is a specific topic in supply chain management and studied by
industrial engineering students in supply chain management course. Unfortunately, conventional
learning media cannot explain the phenomenon of collaborative supply chain to the students. This study
aimed to design a dynamic learning media so that inter-company collaboration and information sharing
on the activities of Supply Chain entities can be explained effectively to the students. The problem was
solved using 3 (three) steps. First, the distribution network was described using mock up. It consists of
miniature trucks, miniature network and miniature of the manufacturer-distributor-retailer embedded
with tag and reader of RFID. Second, the Enterprise Resources Planning application was developed for
supporting business activities. Third, we developed the integrator consists of monitor’s user interface
and practice modules. The result of the research - an SCM-Simulator – will be able to improve learning
skills of industrial engineering graduates, especially abilities to identify, formulate, and solve the
activities of tactical plan & operational routines of Supply Chain entities. However, distribution module
designed is for limited scale laboratory study of simple objects.

An integrated core competence evaluation framework for portfolio management in the oil industry
Drawing upon resource-based theory, this paper presents a core competence evaluation framework for managing the competence portfolio of an oil company. It introduces a network typology to illustrate how to form different types of strategic alliance relations with partnering firms to manage and grow the competence portfolio. A framework is tested using a case study approach involving face-to-face structured interviews. We identified purchasing, refining and sales and marketing as strong candidates to be the core competencies. However, despite the company's core business of refining oil, the core competencies were identified to be their research and development and performance management (PM) capabilities. We further provide a procedure to determine different kinds of physical, intellectual and cultural resources making a dominant impact on company's competence portfolio. In addition, we provide a comprehensive set of guidelines on how to develop core competence further by forging a partnership alliance choosing an appropriate network topology
