Improving the Power Electronics Laboratory teaching/learning process: an interactive web tool
European Higher Education Area; Power Electronics Laboratory; educational methods
Resumen: The forthcoming European Higher Education Area implies an important change in the teaching/learning process: it is necessary to get students more involved as well as to promote their independence and active participation. To achieve this objective, the new teaching methodologies aimed at more effective and appropriate learning for professional practice involve the use of audiovisual, computer and multimedia tools on the part of lecturers. Therefore, a web tool, based on a content management system, has been developed for the teaching in Power Electronics Laboratory. Moreover, the use of these multimedia tools makes possible to promote the students independence. Finally, the use of this web tool results in a very significant increase in the motivation students.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech
Case studies of personalized learning
Deliverable 4.1, Literature review of personalised learning and the Cloud, started with an evaluation and synthesis of the definitions of personalized learning, followed by an analysis of how this is implemented in a method (e-learning vs. i-learning, m-learning and u-learning), learning approach and the appropriate didactic process, based on adapted didactic theories.
From this research a list of criteria was created needed to implement personalised learning onto the learner of the future.
This list of criteria is the basis for the analysis of all case studies investigated. – as well to the learning process as the learning place.
In total 60 case studies (all 59 case studies mentioned in D6.4 Education on the Cloud 2015 + one extra) were analysed. The case studies were compared with the list of criteria, and a score was calculated. As a result, the best examples could be retained.
On average most case studies were good on: taking different learning methods into account, interactivity and accessibility and usability of learning materials for everyone. All had a real formal education content, thus aiming at the core-curriculum, valuing previous knowledge, competences, life and work skills, also informal. Also the availability of an instructor / tutor or other network of peers, experts and teachers to guide and support the learning is common.
On the other hand, most case studies lack diagnostics tests as well at the start (diagnostic entry test), during the personalized learning trajectory and at the end (assessment at the end). Also most do not include non-formal and informal learning aspects. And the ownership of personalized learning is not in the hands of the learner.
Five of the 60 case studies can as a result be considered as very good examples of real personalized learning
Computer-Assisted Program Reasoning Based on a Relational Semantics of Programs
We present an approach to program reasoning which inserts between a program
and its verification conditions an additional layer, the denotation of the
program expressed in a declarative form. The program is first translated into
its denotation from which subsequently the verification conditions are
generated. However, even before (and independently of) any verification
attempt, one may investigate the denotation itself to get insight into the
"semantic essence" of the program, in particular to see whether the denotation
indeed gives reason to believe that the program has the expected behavior.
Errors in the program and in the meta-information may thus be detected and
fixed prior to actually performing the formal verification. More concretely,
following the relational approach to program semantics, we model the effect of
a program as a binary relation on program states. A formal calculus is devised
to derive from a program a logic formula that describes this relation and is
subject for inspection and manipulation. We have implemented this idea in a
comprehensive form in the RISC ProgramExplorer, a new program reasoning
environment for educational purposes which encompasses the previously developed
RISC ProofNavigator as an interactive proving assistant.Comment: In Proceedings THedu'11, arXiv:1202.453

This article, prepared by an international team of authors – researchers from
different scientific areas, connected with ICT, e-learning, pedagogy, and other
related disciplines – focuses on the objectives and some results of the IRNet
international project. In particular, this article describes the research tools, methods,
and some procedures of the Work Package 4 (WP4) “Selection and Testing New ICT tools”: Objectives, Tasks, Deliverables, and implementation of research trips.
Researchers from partner universities have analysed the results of WP4 in the

Development of a game-based learning tool for applied team science communication in a virtual clinical trial.
Educational tools for application of team science competencies in clinical research are needed. Our interdisciplinary group developed and evaluated acceptability of a virtual world game-based learning tool simulating a multisite clinical trial; performance hinges on effective intrateam communication. Initial implementation with clinical research trainees (n=40) indicates high satisfaction and perceived relevance to team science and research career goals. Game-based learning may play an important role in team science training
