A Note About the Semantics of Delegation

    Get PDF
In many applications, mobile agents are used by a client to delegate a task. This task is usually performed by the agent on behalf of the client, by visiting various service provider's sites distributed over a network. This use of mobile agents raises many interesting security issues concerned with the trust relationships established through delegation mechanisms between client and agent, agent and service provider and client and service provider. In this paper we will explain why the traditional semantics of delegation used by existing access control mechanisms, either centralised or distributed, are generally not satisfactory to prevent and detect deception and why these problems are even more critical when these semantics are used in mobile agent paradigms.Non peer reviewe

    Examining the Society of Mind

    Get PDF
This article examines Marvin Minsky's Society of Mind theory of human cognition. We describe some of the history behind the theory, review several of the specific mechanisms and representations that Minsky proposes, and consider related developments in artificial intelligence since the theory's publication

Artificial Intelligence Through the Eyes of the Public

    Get PDF
Artificial Intelligence is becoming a popular field in computer science. In this report we explored its history, major accomplishments and the visions of its creators. We looked at how Artificial Intelligence experts influence reporting and engineered a survey to gauge public opinion. We also examined expert predictions concerning the future of the field as well as media coverage of its recent accomplishments. These results were then used to explore the links between expert opinion, public opinion and media coverage

Intelligent Agents: A Physics Education Opportunity in Latin-America

Intelligent Agents are being applied in a wide range of processes and everyday applications. Their development is not new, in recent years they have had an increased attention and design in learning and as mentoring tools. In this paper we discuss the definition of what an intelligent agent is; how they are applied; how thy look like; recent implementations of agents; agents as support in learning process; their state in Latin-American countries and future developments and trends that will permit a better communication between people and agents.Comment: 6 page

    The ontology: Chimaera or Pegasus

    Get PDF
In the context of the needs of the Semantic Web and Knowledge Management, we consider what the requirements are of ontologies. The ontology as an artifact of knowledge representation is in danger of becoming a Chimera. We present a series of facts concerning the foundations on which automated ontology construction must build. We discuss a number of different functions that an ontology seeks to fulfill, and also a wish list of ideal functions. Our objective is to stimulate discussion as to the real requirements of ontology engineering and take the view that only a selective and restricted set of requirements will enable the beast to fly

A multi-agent approach to the deregulation and restructuring of power industry

    Get PDF
In recent years, the electric utility industry throughout the world has been facing pressure to deregulate or restructure in order to increase its efficiency, to reduce operational costs or to give consumers more alternatives. The once centralized system planning and operation management must be remodelled to adapt to the new market environment. Subject to unavoidable constraints such as the capacity of generation stations, physical limitations of the transmission lines, and demand on days-ahead scheduling, the current trading mechanism needs to be revised so that any party can be involved in this free-market environment. The paper presents a multi-agent approach to resolve the multilateral trading problem. The authors have implemented a prototype based on bilateral Shapley value and Internet technologies. The prototype has been tested with a classical six-bus system.published_or_final_versio

Artificial intelligence in marketing - a presentation of benefits and a framework for successful implementation

    Get PDF
This work project will start with a brief definition of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Marketing AI, followed by an overview of the evolution of AI to establish why now is the right time for businesses to invest in AI, more specifically in Marketing AI. This argumentation will be supported by presenting use cases of Marketing AI. In order to assist businesses with their implementation of AI, a framework for Marketing AI will be introduced and adapted based on a comparison with a Marketing and an AI framework. It then concludes with a description of limitations and challenges of AI
